Captivating plot, bit of a let down ending. Posted by: from: on This movie is great for a one time watch. I personally would not watch it multiple times, but the story was intriguing and compelling. It held my attention and peaked my interest throughout the entire movie, though I was slightly disappointed with the way that the movie ended. It would have been incredibly appealing to fans of a science fiction story, though I was hoping for a bit more realism. The ending did, however, provide a surprising climax, and left the movie open for a possible sequel, which has the potential to be very well done. The characters were interesting, realistic, and well developed, and the movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. There are a lot of intriguing, suspenseful moments that came out of left field, as well as a fair deal of violence and shock factor. A great nighttime watch, especially if you're a fan of suspense and mystery.

New original content movie Posted by: from: on Version includes DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital copies of film. Bonus features are about 1hr of "making of" style features and audio commentary on film. I like this movie because it defies genra categorization. It twists and turns through drama, thriller, horror, and sci-fi; constantly keeping you guessing. When you think you know where the movie is going, it takes a 90 degree turn and heads off in another direction. This is not a continuation of the original Cloverfield. A nice change from the current remake trend.

Right "Sequel" Posted by: from: on No dancing around - this IS a sequel or parallel story to Cloverfield. This movie was compelling all the way through, taking you back and forth with the truth just like the characters. My only problem with the ending was OD on action - that's Hollywood.

Not a good follow-up to the original Posted by: from: on I went into this with a pretty well established idea that they were going the thriller/slow-burn route. That's pretty much the route they took, but the acting (aside from Goodman) wasn't really up to the task. While a departure from the 1st person view was a welcome change, the absence of a dynamic soundtrack was not. The first film had plenty of LFE and enough dynamic range to keep your attention. While this film doesn't have the action of the first, there could have been a lot done to the audio/score to keep us from losing interest. Ultimately, I am giving this film 2 stars. It would be a 1-star, but I am going to watch it again to give it another shot. The fact that it isn't SO bad that it doesn't get a shot at redemption nets it a 2. If you get frustrated by watching films in which the characters make poor-to-terrible decisions, stay away from this one. Goodman carries a lot of it, but there are so many things going on that don't fit the narrative of what they are, seemingly, trying to portray it comes off as distracting vs immersive. Like I said, I'm giving it another shot, but I can see this one getting donated.

defies genre classification Posted by: from: on Except for its allusion in title, this fascinating movie defies genre; is it a psychological thriller, suspense mystery, maniacal serial-abductor murderer, apocalyptic survivalism, science fiction, or a brilliant synthesis that teases, teases, and teases until its startling premise is revealed? If this movie intrigues and pleases you, you will be tantalized until the next episode! I believe we have another capable and formidable Ripley right down here on Earth in the present!

Not For Everyone, but Some Will Applaud Posted by: from: on Goodman is sinister good. Quirky, scary, spooky and unpredictable. You never really know, maybe suspect, but maybe not. Good false clues and good writing at times. But, com'on. Seriously! The ending is about as weird as it gets. My wife thinks I am crazy for saying this was an interesting film. She hated it. I stayed with it until its unpredictable end. Recommended only because of the acting. Not necessarily the story.

Keeps you in suspense. Posted by: from: on John Goodman plays a role you have to see to believe. The suspense of what's outside the shelter, will the girl escape, and if she does will she wish she were back inside? Nice ending!

I got more than I bargained for. Posted by: from: on I wasn't sure about this movie as the original Cloverfield was only so so, in my opinion. However, John Goodman and the rest of the cast were amazing. Lots of twists and turns and surprises. The last few minutes blew me away. I am soooo glad that I bought this movie.
