Stunning special effects! Posted by: from: Pittsburgh, PA on The 3D made this movie even more enjoyable than other 3D movies I've seem. Keanu Reeves is very believable in this role. Amazing!

Pure entertainment without that distracting depth Posted by: from: Tampa, Florida on Historical fantasy in 3d should be filmed to dazzle, and this one doesn't disappoint. The landscapes, Japan in the early Tokugawa era, are complex and scenery is used to optimize the 3d effects, e.g. Mountains as front spaces to add depth to the experience. Since the plot is based on an existing myth, 47 Ronin (samurai who have lost their master return for vengeance on the overlord who murdered him), there isn't much to work with without dramatically altering the myth. When the myth is altered it is only to add the obligatory and shallow love interest (the primary love partners come across as thinly drawn and tend to wallow in the star crossed misery of cliche). Still, I found myself watching it twice in consecutive nights just to soak in the effects.

Watchable in 3D but limited rewatch Posted by: from: Chicago, IL on Ok, so here's another movie I passed on for a long time, but eventually broke down and got the 3D version of. As others have mentioned it is a dark movie in general so 3D effect was somewhat limited as a result. The story was decent enough for one viewing but I can't see myself going back to it unless someone requests it specifically.

Top Notch Posted by: from: Naples, FL on Bought this film after having seen it because I liked it so much. Blends Western and Eastern films. The story line is authentic Japanese but is toned down to Western tastes to be enjoyed by all. Especially good in 3D.

Good Work Keanu! Posted by: from: Baltimore, MD on This was a great fighter-style action movie in which we're all rooting for the outcast. Didn't realize that it was somewhat based on actual history, with obligatory scary creatures blended in to amp things up a bit. Good story and good acting.
