Posted by: Livewire21 from Columbia City, IN on 05/19/2013Setup was a piece a cake, it only took a matter of minutes. I had to do a custom install since my Internet provider wasn't listed, but one quick call tech support and he knew exactly what I needed to get it running! It has run great ever since.

Wouldn't stay connected after 5 minutes.

Posted by: Dyseman from Houston, Tx on 05/11/2013Lightning blew out my DSL/Router (Netgear from AT&T) so naturally I went the cheap route, saving $20 and got this DSL/Router.
Problem is, everytime it connected, and went through the AT&T spiel, I'd get great internet for all of 5 minutes, then flashing internet light. So, I cycled power, checked all settings and connections... Same thing, 5 minutes and nothing.
Drove all the way back to Best Buy and picked up the N300 Netgear DSL/Router for $20 more and it hasn't failed yet! So save $20 in gas and grab this the the NETGEAR one the first time!

Very Good DSL Modem/Router
5
Posted by: zandres from S.F. Bay Area on 04/09/2013This product is replacing a 5 year old modem that I received from Sonic that was slowly going bad.
The wireless connection is virtually as fast as the as the direct connection to this device, and my line speed is as fast as the old modem which was a Siemens SpeedStream 4100 modem.
The only worry that I had was the "new" smell that was emitted when the device is used. That smell was reminiscent of warm plastic. That smell is now gone after several weeks of use and the case of the device was only slightly warm during this break-in period.
You will need a DSL splitter/filter to connect both your phone and this modem to the same line. This is not supplied in the package and I used my old ones that were supplied with my original modem.
I am really happy with this product and the price was very good.

Great product and price

Posted by: Natasha316 from KS on 03/13/2013I love the price, I got a modem/router combo for less than the price for one of either. I surf the net easily from my laptop and it is very easy for my family to get on when they visit, with just a touch of a button they can log on to my wireless network. I am very impressed with how great this product performs with my att&t dsl service. It would be excellent except for the trouble I had installing, However, Im not sure if it was on the part of the modem or my service provider. I have not had a problem with connection since installing I have had this product for almost three months.

Great modem/wireless router for ATT DSL
5
Posted by: OrangeCountyCustomer from Irvine, CA on 02/20/2013Currently have ATT DSL and was using the 2Wire modem/router. The 2Wire modem/router was starting to go out and I replaced it with the Netgear 7550. The Netgear was awful and the wireless was absolutely useless.
Read the reviews on the Actiontec GT784WN and gave it a try. Setup was easy in less than 30 minutes. The hardest part of the setup was figuring out what my att network ID and password was. Once you have that, than everything was simple. The wireless range is much better than the 2Wire and Netgear modem/router that is recommeded by ATT.

The best modem for sonic.net
5
Posted by: nickthetoolman from Daly City, CA on 02/08/2013Just in case you're considering the Actiontec modem/router. It's just incredible. Extremely stable connection.
Previously, even with the brand new ZTE 831 series modem from sonic.net, though the router was able to sync at 6+ Mbits/sec, it was never able to maintain it for any length of time. It would start out with speed testing at 6+ Mbits/sec, but if you watch the dial, the download would make several pauses before the download test is completed. I believe this was the reason why testers at such places like bandwidthplace.com, speakeasy.net, speedtest.net, or even speedtest.sonic.net, give results all over the place, not consistent with each other at all.
I'm not sure why this Actiontec modem is not among the standard equipments offered by sonic.net, but after monitoring it for a while with all the speed testers above, the download test dials are always, ALWAYS, so smooth, and consistent across the board. When our internet at home is quiet, the download bandwidth is consistently reported by all of them to be around 4 Mbits/sec, and stay like that for days. I don't expect higher sync rate due to the rather large distance between our house and the CO.
Another interesting thing is upload speed is most of the time at 2.8 Mbits/sec, not the 0.8 Mbits/sec that is supposed to be the rate offered by the service plan.
