    Posted by: from Dallas, TX on 05/10/2013Bought a refurbished unit on sale, and it is a good tablet for casual internet browsing and running a few basic apps while playing some of your media files on the Amazon Cloud Player. With a good internet connection, listening to your music is pretty instantaneous. However, for those who want to have alot of flexibility, all apps must be purchased through Amazon's App Store. A decent chunk of those are free, the obvious ones like Facebook. Some may be on special, and some you'll pay full price for. The battery life on standby is pretty good. I went about 3 weeks without using it and I found it under some items and turned it on, it still had about 60% battery life left. I don't read much books but it would be very capable of being an ebook or magazine reader.

    Great price but screen has deep scratches (refurb)

I know that this is a refurb and I expect to see some wear and tear on the case and maybe some slight screen imperfections in the corners. But the unit I received had long deep scratches in the middle of the screen. Really disappointed to see this coming from Best Buy. That being said, the Kindle Fire is a still a great little tablet. There may be more powerful ones on the market now but the original Fire still performs like a champ. You can still get many years of use out of one. I recommend the Kindle Fire but maybe I need to rethink where I get refurbished stuff.
