Posted by: matty7426 from Missoual,Mt on 05/23/2013I have only had the laptop for about three weeks and I just love it. It is very fast and easy to run. I love the ASUS smart gestures for the mouse pad, makes it easy to control and navigate through pages and apps. So far no complaints here. I am new to windows 8 and I must say that it was a little confusing at first but now I'm not sure how I have made it this far without it. I picked it up pretty fast and still learning more cool things that I can do with it. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a good solid laptop.

Terrible product

Posted by: Ellis066 from Georgia on 05/21/2013This was a horrible experience. Out of the box the computer had problems with the internet connection. It was only 3 months later that the internet card went completely out and had to be replaced by the Geek Squad. After another 4 months of fractured service, the hard drive went completely out. Called the company and they only offered to continue with band-aid solutions. My computer is essential to my work and unfortunately I chose wrong. Will never buy another asus computer and would not recommend this to my worst enemy.

So far, a fantastic device

Posted by: Ryuko from Maryland on 05/18/2013I bought the ASUS Q500-BHI7T05 as a replacement for a Toshiba Satellite P755 which recently encountered toddler-induced severe impact damage after only a year and a half.
I chose this laptop because I needed something a little more robust than the plastic laptop it replaced. The alumnimum casing, rubberized grippy bottom, solid build, and good weight is primarily what sold me. Definitely not an ultrabook, it is maybe a little over an inch at it's thickest.
I know weight is a serious disqualifier for many, but this laptop will be used not on a Starbucks table, as most ultrabooks and keyboard-toting tablets seem to be designed for, but actually in my lap, sitting on the living room couch. As it will rarely travel, weight takes a back seat to performance.
In addition to solid construction, my minimum specs were a 15" screen, separate number pad, i5 processor or equivalent, and touch screen, all for a competitive price.
I've only been using the laptop for half a day so far, but I have had few problems. Most of the issues simply have been a result of being new to Windows 8, which does have a fairly steep learning curve for old-school Windows power users like myself.
This laptop feels great. I've already mentioned the bottom grip. The keys feel responsive, and are a decent size but not too far apart. All the standard function keys are there. The multi-touch trackpad is fairly easy to use as well, and the touch screen is as responsive as any high-end tablet. I like that Win8 provides an on-screen keyboard in addition to the physical one supplied, even though I'm not sure I'll ever use it ;#.
The computer boots up relatively quickly with its i7 core processor, though a far cry from the instant-on of my iPad, managed to reach the login screen in around 10 seconds.
Although it would be great if the monitor could spin around or fold flat, like the Lenovo Yoga or Asus Taichi, it's not that big of a deal, considering that is a feature rarely seen on sub-$1000 laptops #especially in this size/power range#. Although the base of the laptop is wide enough to comfortably rest my wrists, it is not so wide that I can't pull it forward and easily interact with the touch screen.
However, since it doesn't fold flatter, the touch screen will likely never be more than an extra way to do some things a little more efficiently #tasks such as zooming in on maps or splitting the screen are still easier, where a trackpad is traditionally awkward#. It's more useful than I thought it would be.
The laptop does heat up a bit, though not incredibly so when on battery power #the temp can get higher when plugged in#. Also, the cord is not as long as I would prefer.
The only other big gripe I have is that the trackpad got stuck earlier. It would not respond, and every time I clicked, it would make a series of beeps. Restarting the computer solved this problem and it has not popped up again, yet. If it does, it may be grounds to return due to defective product.
Otherwise, I generally am rather impressed with this laptop so far #and with Win8, too#. Although I consider myself a power user, it should be fairly easy for a beginner to use, as well. If this model is still around in a few months, I'll update the review when I've had more experience with it.

Great laptop with touchscreen

Posted by: Hummer74 from Charlotte, NC on 05/18/2013I only had it now for 1 month but love it. I use it for business as well as personal. The touchscreen is awesome. The unit is very light and thin for a laptop. It is fast and has a large memory. The windows 8 is different and I had to figure out a couple of things, but it is nice to work with.

Good computer with great support

Posted by: DaveAK123 from Anchorage, AK on 05/11/2013This computer is great for my needs. I primarily use it for browsing the internet, word processing, and some photoshop. It has plenty of power to do everything that I need it to and the display is great for viewing and editing photos. I wasn't sure about the touchscreen at first, but now that I've gotten used to it, I find myself poking the screen on my wife's non-touch laptop out of habit. I had one minor issue with the mouse touchpad being raised in the upper left corner, but Asus was great to work with to get the problem fixed. They emailed me a prepaid FedEx label and had the computer back to me on Friday after I dropped it at FedEx on a Sunday (and that is from Alaska). Great company to deal with and the computer is running flawlessly now.
