Posted by: mitsuyager9 from on 04/07/2013I will start off by saying that I replaced my laptop with the Asus Vivotab because I wanted a tablet and I needed it to do everything that a full laptop would. And to my surprise it actually works fantastically as both a tablet and a laptop. I was a little worried about the atom processor when I was shopping around for tablets, and I really wanted the Asus Transformer Book but the release date kept getting pushed back and I got tired of waiting.
=Pros=
-Build Quality: I first held the Vivotab RT in my local Best Buy and was really impressed by how it felt in hand and by how awesome the screen looked. I had no idea that there was a larger atom based tablet which is almost identical (tf810c). Asus really makes a quality product and it really shows in this tablet. Its super light but has just enough heft to feel like solid machine. There is a carrying case included and even that is high quality, when toting it around in the case it just feels so right!
-Battery life: This thing has an advertised 9.5 hours of battery life and I wouldn't doubt it at all. I love not having to worry about charging it or running out, and I have yet to see it fall below 60% at the end of the day. If you get the optional keyboard dock (I will do a review for that too# it adds another 9 hours of battery which is just incredible.
-Size and weight: I really like the 11.6 inch screen especially for tablet use. It is also really light but not light enough to feel cheap.
-Screen: The screen on this is pretty good for not being 1080p, colors are vibrant and the tough responsiveness is great!
-Full Operating system: I love using a tablet with all of the applications from previous windows. I use Rosetta stone and it was mandatory that it would run on whatever I decided to buy. Its pretty cool using the touch screen because it seems like it was made with touch in mind. And being able to look up wiring diagrams for work is equally impressive.
-Flexibility with the optional keyboard: I'm typing on this right now and it feels great, being able to dock in for more battery life and full keyboard for typing documents is great. Want to just watch videos or surf the web? Just push down on the release lever on the side and pull up on the top of the tablet while holding the middle of the dock, and you have a super portable tablet. When you have the two together it looks like a high end netbook, and you would never guess that it was a tablet if you didn't know it. Anther plus is when you are hanging out on the couch or laying in bed you can use the dock as a stand and you don't have to hold the tablet.
=Cons=
-Atom processor: I like the battery life, portability and full OS. But it does lag a little bit when you are multitasking or transferring big files. Its not horrible but you kind of wish you had a little more power at times. Not a deal breaker though.
-Price: at $768 plus $160 for the optional keyboard dock, it is pretty pricy for an atom tablet, and you can get an ultrabook for around the same price. But trust me, the ability to have a tablet that can run regular programs is worth it!
-Storage space: With only 64gb - OS space and other factory items leaving you round 39gb for your stuff is kind of lame. if you are just using it as a tablet its not bad though. If you are using this as you only device then it gets sparse pretty fast. I bought a 64gb micro sd and that sounds great but your photos and music wont show up on the apps that you want to use them on.
-Laptop use: Don't get me wrong, it works AWESOME as a laptop but coming from a 15" laptop it seems kind of small at first. But just rip the screen off and it all makes sense.
:Conclusion:
If you are looking for a tablet that you can also use as a laptop to get work done or not have to hold it on the couch. This is a great buy! It does cost more than the Samsung or Lenovo tablets with docks but a much higher quality and no disconnects with the dock #Samsung).
