The Cosby Show: A Shirt Story
Cliff (Bill Cosby) blows his top when son Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) spends 95 dollars on a Gordon Gartelle designer shirt. Ordered to return the item, Theo despairs that he won't be able to match the stylish standards of his friends. But salvation may be at hand when Denise offers to copy the shirt at a bargain price--this despite the fact that Denise has never finished any project of any kind in her life. Featured in the guest cast is Kadeem Hardison, who later costarred as Dwayne Wayne on the Cosby Show spinoff A Different World. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Happy Anniversary
Cliff (Bill Cosby), Clair (Phylicia Rashad) and the children put on an elaborate show in honor of Grandpa Russell and Grandma Anna's (Earle Hyman, Clarice Taylor) 49th wedding anniversary. The festivities include a lip-synched rendition of Ray Charles' Night Time is the Right Time, and tons of lavish presents. Russell and Anna are thrilled and touched, but they are reluctant to accept Cliff's biggest gift of all: an expensive European cruise. "Happy Anniversary" has been cited by TV Guide as one of the "best TV episodes ever"--and who are we to argue? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Theo's Holiday
Not only has Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) been sponging money off his hard-working older siblings, but he also has decided to forego college and enter the "real world" at the age of eighteen. To teach him the error of his ways, the Huxtables spend an entire day transforming their home into a microcosm of that selfsame "real world", with each family member assuming a variety of roles to show Theo that life in the "outside" won't be quite as simple and uncomplicated as he thinks it is. Even Theo's pal Cockroach (Carl Anthony Payne II) participates in this hilarious but ultimately sobering object lesson. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Call of the Wild
Season Four of The Cosby Show begins as the eldest Huxtable daughter Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) and her new husband Elvin (Geoffrey Owens, now afforded costar billing) return from their honeymoon. A pall is cast upon what should have been a joyous occasion when Elvin announces that he isn't going to attend medical school, but instead intends to open a camping-goods store. Sondra's dad Cliff (Bill Cosby) goes ballistic, whereupon his wife Clair (Phylicia Rashad) tells him to calm down--only to "lose it" herself when Sondra reveals that she's forsaking law school to help Elvin at the store. This episode originally aired the same night as the debut of the spinoff series A Different World, which starred former Cosby Show regular Lisa Bonet (Denise Huxtable). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Say Hello to a Good Buy
Intent upon replacing the family station wagon, Cliff (Bill Cosby) goes to great lengths to hide his profession and his affluence so that the car dealership won't take advantage of him. Meanwhile, Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) comes to grief when trying to follow the advice of older sister Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) on finishing an "illustrated" school report. Featured in the cast are comedians Gilbert Gottfried and Sinbad, the latter soon to become a regular as Walter Oakes on the Cosby Show spinoff A Different World. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: I Know That You Know
Cliff (Bill Cosby) is inordinately proud of the fact that he is the only of the family who hasn't been suckered by Theo's practical jokes. Thus, with the help of his mom and siblings, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) uses his "inside information" about the engagement of Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) and Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) to pull an elaborate prank, wherein Cliff will be manipulated into delivering Elvin's marriage proposal! Unfortunately for the conspirators, Cliff tumbles to the scheme, and cooks up a "counter-prank" of his own. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Move It
Now that Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) and Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) are expecting a child, Sondra's parents Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) are convinced that it's high time the couple move out of their wretched little studio apartment and find more suitable living quarters. The problem is that Sondra and Elvin haven't got the necessary funds--and they stubbornly refuse to accept any financial aid from her folks. This episode was originally slated to air on October 20, 1988. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Together Again and Again
The Season Five opener of The Cosby Show finds Cliff and Clair Huxtable (Bill Cosby, Phylicia Rashad) eagerly looking forward to an "empty nest" as the school year begins. Cliff is particularly delighted that his son Theo will be moving into a dorm during his freshman year at NYU. Unfortunately, Theo forgot to send in his application for a dorm assignment, and will have to remain in the Huxtable household until he can scrounge up an apartment--and if this wasn't enough of an intrusion on Cliff and Clair's solituate, daughter Denise (Lisa Bonet, no longer a regular and billed as "guest star") has dropped out of Hillman college and returned to find a job nearer to home! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Denise: The Saga Continues
The sixth season of The Cosby Show opens as prodigal daughter Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet, once again a series regular) returns from her photographic assignment in Africa. Denise has brought along a couple of surprises for her parents Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad)--specifically, a new husband, Navy lieutenant Martin Kendall (Joseph C. Phillips), and three-year-old Olivia (Raven-Symone) Martin's daughter from a previous marriage! Once they've overcome the shock of Denise's new "family", Cliff and Clair must face the prospect of providing housing for Martin and Olivia until he is shipped out. Denise's blasé attitude over the entire situation does not rest well with the elder Huxtables, and it is up to little Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) to save the day. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Isn't It Romantic?
Although Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is still smitten by Justine, he insists that her talk of marriage "sucks the romance" out of the relationship. Appalled by this philosophy, Cliff (Bill Cosby), Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) and Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) all but fall over themselves to prove how romantic they can be with their wives. Cliff's insists that the more money a husband spends, the more affectionate he is; challenging this attitude, Elvin and Martin wager that they can "win over" their spouses without exceeding a 25-dollar limit! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
