    Great Show at Great Price

Posted by: from Cherry Hill, NJ on 08/26/2008Get this 3 disc set now while it is still available. It is about $20 cheaper than when it first came out. And as I write this, BB is having 25% off all TV on DVD so for $18 this is a must buy. The cinematography is beautifully done, in my mind really captures the essence of the series. The series is also loaded with light humor essential to balance the dramatic themes. Overall it is a very re-watchable series. My only con was the season finale is the series finale but the storyline is pretty much wrapped up so it's like watching a really long movie. Plus a chance to see Michael Stahl-David before Cloverfield & Tom Guiry who you may know better as Scotty Smalls from The Sandlot. A great show at a great price, you will not be disappointed.

    Almost Filled the Gap

Posted by: from Fairmont, West Virginia on 02/11/2008The Black Donnellys had to be one of the best shows to air in the past five years. With todays trend of "reality tv" taking over it was nice to see "fiction" tv making a comeback. Unfortunately, people don't want to watch fiction. They want to watch people's lives ruined on national television, thus The Black Donnellys was canceled after only airing eight episodes. Luckily they have released the entire series on DVD. This series gives you the seven episodes that did air and six episodes that did not so you are able to see how the first and last season plays out. This set is great, the acting is phenomenal and the writing is unbelievable, but what did you expect from Paul Haggis of "Crash" and Robert Moresco of "Million Dollar Baby". The biggest problem with this set is that there aren't any special features at all, so you are paying for just the episodes and there is no real resolution to how the story ends. The viewer is left with a bunch of questions that leaves a pit in your stomach because you know that you will never find out what happens to the Donnelly brothers. The Black Donnelly's: The Complete Series is worth purchasing because it is fantastic mob/crime driven fictional television, put down the worlds smarter than the biggest loser idol and pick this up.

Second best show no longer on television

Posted by: from Minneapolis on 10/24/2007The way this show was advertised I figured it was just going to be another "commit/solve a crime in an hour" type show. I decided to watch it anyway and was relieved to see it was actually a very good show with character depth and good story lines that meshed well with each other. The only other show like this (which is my favorite) is Rescue Me. There really isnt anything I can say that hasnt already been said in other reviews. If NBC looks at this, sell the show to FX or HBO so they can actually make it what it should be.

Posted by: from on 10/14/2007by far my favorite show of last season. it was a mid-season replacement. while lost was boring me to death, this show offered something fresh. nbc unfortunately canceled it after a couple months. hopefully someone else will pick it up.

Best thing on tv in a long time

Posted by: from on 10/10/2007I was totally gutted when I learned NBC has decided to remove this show. It was the best thing on telly in a long time. I totally loved the show. So much so that I'd watch it online as I didn't always have time to watch it during its airing and didn't have Tivo. I just wish it gets revived on some other channel. As one of the other reviews say, it would be an absolute pleasure if you like this genre.

    Best Show In A While

Posted by: from Ohio on 10/09/2007This show absolutely blew me away the first time I saw it. It was so awesome. Each episode got better and better. Everything about it was amazing. The story line was so uniquely written. I was so disappointed when NBC quit airing The Black Donnellys but I continued to watch on NBC.com. I was even more disappointment when I found out this was it for The Black Donnellys, it would not be back for a second season. This season will absolutely blow you away and leave you wanting more and make you ask NBC "why". Amazing is all I can say. Just watch for yourself.

Best Irish Mafia TV Series EVER!!!
    5
Posted by: from IL on 08/16/2007Despite being removed from NBC's Monday night lineup for being "too graphic" for television ... The Black Donnelly's rarely uses profain language, so the "whack" scenes are a little more creative than usual to make up for it. The scheming and eventual outcome of this series should have been classic, but unfortunately never got the chance to bloom. If you're a fan of mafia movies, shows, or books ... the Black Donnelly's will not disappoint!
