Leaves a lot on the table

Posted by: from Columbia, MS on 05/02/2012There is much to like about this phone after about 3 months but there is also a lot that could be improved. The battery life is disappointing. There is hardly a day that does not require a charge to finish the day. I had hoped the new OS would result in fewer system updates, as indicated by the spinning clock, that drain the battery so much but now they appear regularly. And the screen occasionally just freezes. Way too many of the apps drain power ever more quickly than just the phone. Having said that, the keyboard is better than competitors and having the BB features (BB Messenger and PIN messages), along with the "not quite 4G" speed make the phone "mid-range" satisfactory. Am I glad I upgraded? Absolutely. Should I have gotten a fully 4G model? Maybe but not for $200 more. All in all, it's okay ... not great, not poor, just okay.

everything the 9800 should of been

Posted by: from Rochester, NY on 11/16/2011if your an owner of the 9800, upgrading to the 9810 is a must. with that said before i get to the pro's of the 9810, if your contract threw at&t dos not offer an upgrade yet like mine was the only advice i can offer is (if you can afford to) buy the 9810 at actual price and then trade in your 9800 at best buy threw there geek squad. I was able to receive just over $160 in store credit for my 9800 (the rep said you can exchange and receive money instead of credit at a slightly lower trade in value though, all depending on the condition of your bb also). so just a little info there for anyone who maybe in a likewise situation. pros- ~camera reliably quick ~if a restart is needed the bb loads back up and is good to use within 2 minutes ~touch seems a lot more responsive ~legit 720p HD video recording (recorded just over 30 minutes at a concert and it turned out pretty amazing for a cellphone) ~the entire OS is fluid, smooth, and fast, all around great smartphone that doesn't annoy you because of clunky slowness my only con for the 9810 relates more to the service providers and how the latest wireless speed is 4G where these cell providers put the bandwidth cap on our devices which defeats the purpose of 4G.. if that wasn't the case i would be able to tether this phone to my computer for its main internet connection with a reasonable connection speed... but no (only sprint has unlimited 4G, but they lack in quality phones)

Best Blackberry so far (=

Posted by: from Easthampton, MA on 10/22/2011I've had a Blackberry Torch 9810 for about three months now. Great phone overall, great touch screen, although the "panels" do get kind of redunent with the favorites and frequent; the frequent panel is basically your favorites panel... It can be used as an MP3 player....camera is great also includes a flash, and you can download different apps that will turn it into a flashlight....but also using the video camera with the flash/light on will do the trick as well. slide out keyboard makes it easier to text but there is also an onscreen keyboard too. it can do WiFi which helps keep data costs down. also has a screen that will change orentation when held upright or to either side...doesnt change when held upside down though. Overall a great phone that will surpass expectations.

Good phone

Posted by: from Tulsa, OK on 10/20/2011I like the solidness and heft of this phone. It's heavier than my Blackberry Bold 9700 but not too heavy. I like the fact that once a Wi-Fi connection is made and configured, it automatically re-connects to this spot once within range. I had to manually re-connect each time to each different Wi-Fi connection on my Bold. The GPS is still a bit flaky, but at least I don't have to hard re-set to get GPS like I did with my Bold (i.e, turn off, pull out battery, replace and turn on again). The phone reception seems to be a bit better than with my Bold; there seems at this time to be fewer dropped calls.

How has nobody reviewed this yet?

Posted by: from Lansdowne, PA on 09/13/2011Pretty silent release, but much better than the original torch. OS 7 plus "4G" capabilities made me forget how much i liked the original torch when it came out. I am new to blackberry but since purchasing the past two Torches, i am very happy. I would definitely have more fun with an iPhone or some super android phone, but with everything improved on this phone and its business features and built in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe reader, i almost never need to bring my laptop home anymore. This is certainly no iphone, but i already have an ipod touch that i can play with. Bottom line, i LOVE this phone. If you like blackberry and have ATT, then get it. $50 bucks is a steal.
