They're not active noise canceling, but they block out enough noise that it doesn't matter.
I went through SEVERAL sets of headphones before finding out how amazing these were.

The earbuds are okay, but they fall out of my ears often or just loosen so as to decrease sound quality. The headphones never fall off my head and the sound is always excellent!

Great for TV and Music

I have a hearing loss and with the Bose I can hear the voices and understand what is being said. They are extremely comfortable. I also have the Bose with noise cancelling but I felt too isolated with them. I could not hear a phone rling or hear a doorbell. This set is perfect. The sound ils incredeble but I can still hear just enough outside noise. Very happy with them.

I could hear some back ground sound when there were quite conversations on movies. I tried different head phones on a previous flight and could not hear the movie conversations. I was scared of breaking the connector at the head set, but was glad Bose has the cord removable to prevent accidental damage. Great head phones for the price.

Great Sound Quality from a Great Brand

They deliver clear highs while still being able to produce bass that you can feel but is not overwhelming. The padding around the ears and on top make for a comfortable fit while wearing them. They can easily be worn for a couple of hours without any discomfort. I highly recommend buying this product.
