Not Compatible with 5th generation IPod Touch
1
Posted by: NotASamsungFanAnyMore from Manchester, NH on 12/25/2012Purchased this product on line and did not know it was incompatible with the latest IPod Touch (5th generation). Also when I did hook it up via 3.5mm aux it had a hissing sound and then you could hear a crackle sound during certain frequencies. I am bringing it back for a refund: Totally dissatisfied with this purchase. No wonder it was 20% off. . .

Finally took the plunge.

Posted by: audiojunky66 from Michigan on 12/13/2012I am posting this review mostly to speak of the sound quality. I am not a Bose enthusiast. When I built my house in 2000, I had Klipsch speakers put in because I far preferred them over Bose. My car has a Bose sound system and I have never been overly impressed. So years ago I bought a Klipsch I-groove and was happy with it. Recently for the first time while at Best buy, I decided to listen to the Bose sound dock. I was very shocked at the depth of sound compared to any other Ipod device I've heard... but I know the store has an ideal setup and most times things don't sound nearly as good at home. So I went a few months before finally taking the plunge and figured if I was not as impressed as I hoped..I could return it. Well after placing it just on my counter and pushing play..I was quite blown away. The sound just filled the room. Clarity of the high's were my first surprise..followed by a nice full bass sound that was not fake or overpowering. The midrange is also very good for something so small. I put it on my night stand in my bedroom where it will stay most of the time when not being taken outside etc. The room is good sized, and the sound dock is closer to the wall etc...I am just really pleased with the wonderful sound. Compared to the Klipsch I-groove.... the difference is astounding.
Now a little note on portability... a lot of people have mentioned it is heavy etc. I may not be the best person to comment on this aspect as I was in High School in the 80's when we had giant boom boxes with 8 d-cell batteries!! So I don't personally feel it is heavy or cumbersome. I understand if you are taking it on a trip where you are flying it may be large..but for my family's kind of vacation always going by car.. It will be ideal. I can't comment on the length of battery life as I have only had it a short while and it is too cold in Michigan to go to the beach or have a picnic.. so I will have to wait till summer around the pool to test that. I will say that just like all types of music boxes..this has the giant power adapter cord that I wish someone could invent a smaller solution...like a normal ended cord, but small potatoes for the other benefits. Of course like any human being..I wish the price were about $150 less..but that's life.
Bottom line is that for my listening preference.. this thing sounds fantastic and looks great doing it.

SoundDock portable Vs SoundLink
5
Posted by: SoundOff from Upstate NY on 08/14/2012If you are into maximum sound quality you need to purchase the SoundDock portable, if you enjoy only good quality purchase the soundLink. The sole purpose for the soundLink is the bluetooth and this will give you "radio quality" or over the air signals that reduce the clarity and high frequencies. In the store you will notice the soundLink is being played in auxiliary mode, this means it is "hard wired" for maximum sound quality. The soundLink still sounds good over the bluetooth air until you hear the SoundDock! Twice the volume, much better highs, mids and deep base. Also the left and right speaker separation is a huge factor over the SoundLink from 15 feet from either unit.
If you own an iPod and an iPad or iPhone you can still use bluetooth by docking the iPod/iPhone in the SoundDock and purchase Tango Remote from the Apple app store. This means you can use either your iPhone / iPod and or, your iPad to control music selection and volume to your SoundDock much like how the SoundLink works except you will not lose sound quality because your iPhone/iPod is docked (hard wired) for best quality. I would rather listen to CD quality over "Radio" quality...
I also get a kick out of others here who give this product 5 stars except for the price! If there was a better product on the market for less money you would not be complaining!!!

Expensive, but no regrets.

Posted by: Bootleg89 from Chicago/NW Suburbs, IL on 08/11/2012When in the market for an iPod dock speaker the biggest 2 factors for me were sound quality and portability. I wanted something i could just grab and take with me to the back yard or front yard when doing yard work. I also wanted something to take outside when I have an outdoor party. I have to be courteous with the neighbors, so a huge sound system wasn't an option.
After hearing the Sounddock in-store, I simply kept going back to it. I would check the 20 other docks, then keep going back to the Bose. Nothing even came close to the quality of sound. The price tag was heavy, but my 30th birthday was coming up and I decided to splurge on something nice. The only thing missing was Bluetooth connectivity, but it was not a deal breaker.
As soon as I got home, 2 minutes later I had my iPod docked and was cranking out music. I went to every corner of my house, and with the volume turned up, I could hear the music with crystal clarity and I could only smile. My next test was to take it to my backyard and see how far the sound would travel in my decent sized yard. So i kept walking, kept turning the volume up with the included remote, and the sound kept getting louder and reached me to the farthest corner. This thing pumps out the sound even on battery power with no distortion. I absolutely love it.
If you can afford it, or just want to treat yourself to something nice, I would highly recommend this system.

Great sound, Battery and life of the party.

Posted by: BayouRat from on 07/28/2012I just bought a second one. Incredible sound and you don't need the giant speakers and cords everywhere. I have thrown many parties and received so many complements on this dock. The battery life is pretty good. 8hrs running it normal of course less when cranked up. I highly recommend this.

Excellent sound quality that carries.

Posted by: Pnorth from Glenville,NY on 07/20/2012I received a Sony docking station as a Father's Day gift and did the unthinkable...returned it for the Bose! The Bose has a richer, fuller sound that can carry throughout the house. Out in the yard the sound is clearly heard across large spaces. I also considered the Beats station but did not care for its bulky size and lack do a battery for the cost. The Bose unit has suited my needs perfectly.

Posted by: Parlays23 from Redondo Beach, CA on 07/18/2012The sound on this tiny piece of equipment is louder than my surround sound system I bought 7 years ago. Take it out of the box, charge it for 4 hours and you're ready to go!
