Posted by: from Chesterfield, VA on 04/21/2013I really enjoy these speakers, can't play around with the ton of features provided by the sound card. Regardless the setup is very easy and the quality is what you would expect from BOSE!! Great volume control at your fingertips. Just repeating the same; if you are looking for easy setup and quality sound - this is a good choice.

Posted by: from Ann Arbor, MI on 03/24/2013Best value for a speaker system that give acceptable sound from a computer speaker system. I was looking for a speaker system that would let me enjoy music while working at my computer. While this speakers will not replace a dedicated audio system, they are clear and have good base.

    Bose never fails to impress

Posted by: from New haven Ct on 03/09/2013I just recently bought a desktop computer as well as a 1080tv and blu-ray player. So i wanted sound that would could be used for both and that was easy to set up for both units without having to undo all the cords. This system I thought would work. It does for the desktop but connecting it to my blu ray player was a pain due to the connections available. The volume/mute control thingie is great; it has an aux port. This was the only way I was able to connect my text to my TV and I even got lucky there because my tv has av outputs. Anywho, keep in mind that this system should be for computers unless you have a device that works with an AUX input. As for the price and what you get for it... I like Bose. I have never been dissatisfied with the quality of sound. It is a bit pricer but I think it worth it. I would say this sound system markets a prosumer customer base.

Posted by: from San Francisco, CA on 02/22/2013I know you're supposed to think Bose is amazing, but I've tried enough products in the last few weeks to compare so thought I'd share my experience. I've had two sets of Bose speakers for years, and used two sets from other makers for the last week. Contenders vs the Bose 5s: Klipsch Promedia (~$150 at BB) Logitech Z520 ($49 right now at BB) Bose Companion 2 computer speakers (bought for $99 10 yrs ago) The Klipsch wins hands down. An amazing consumer product. The price is reasonable and probably quite economical for Klipsch to manufacture because it's the same high-end design for the last 10 yrs. These go as loud as you want with 200W and wonderful detail and clarity. I can't imagine buying anything else for a powered 2.1 system ever. Every couple months I'm excited about a product I bought that was just the right thing - this is probably my purchase of the year. 2nd place tie - Bose Companion 2 or the Logitech Z520s These are very different speakers but would be fine depending on the application. The companion 2s are actually my favorite for listening to classical music - the highs are so detailed that there are instruments playing which I can't even detect from the Logitechs. The Logitechs on the other hand are much more boomy, and not so directional. The Bose are good if you can point them directly at your head. But off center or across the room, all that detail goes away. There is also very little bass coming from the Bose 2s, even though there's a mini-sub built into each speaker. The Logitech's have the 360 design with the tweeters pointed forward and backward. It gives more uniform sound around the room, especially for placement on a desk in the middle of room. They are also very economical at $49 right now - the difference between these and a $20 pair of typical computer speakers will be huge and would be worth the upgrade. The cons are: a little muddy highs when listening to classical, and their implementation of the 2nd audio input. When I plugged in my second computer, it muted the first. So I can't use my media computer to play music and have my workhorse laptop's system sounds play at the same time. For my needs, the inputs have to be unplugged and replugged at least daily. There is no warning about this in any of the documentation. I just learned it the hard way and so am taking them back. The Boses and Klipsch automatically mix the two inputs together at all times. The Bose Companion 5 are my least favorite, which I'm bummed to say because I've had them for three years and they were not cheap. The high details aren't present like they are from the Companion 2s, and the 5s take up a lot of room and create a lot of cable clutter. The location of the bass adjustment is also inconveniently located on the very bottom of the back of the subwoofer which means I'll never adjust it - even if different media would benefit from adjustment. The Klipsch put this on the control module right next to the volume (perfect). Good luck in your search. Be wary of making the assumption that price equals quality. Listen to multiple speakers and compare for yourself.

Bose quality that you come to know and love!

Posted by: from Honolulu, HI on 02/10/2013Purchased on sale $50 off MSRP during the Holidays. Was looking to upgrade my computer speakers and did it by leaps and bounds with the Bose Companion 5 system. Easy hookup and great instructions. Had a problem with sound cutting off when I switched between apps like iTunes and EyeTV. The unit was connected to a USB hub, and the hub to my iMac. After some exploring and reading online comments, I connected the Bose unit directly to my computer and the problem ceased to exist. Excellent sound! Sleek look with speakers sitting aside my 27" iMac! I've got an entire AWESOME entertainment center sitting right on my desk!

    Better than Companion 20
    5
Posted by: from Mcallen on 04/15/2012I bought this speakers because I wanted to hear music with more bass. Before I bought these speakers I had the companion 20. Companion 20 are ok, but I just didnt like the lack of bass they have. I really enjoy this speakers and I would absolutely buy another set. BETTER EVEN THAN THE LOGITECH Z2300 which I also owned a year ago. So these speakers sound amazing with electronic music (which is the music I regularly like to listen).
