With the recent fad in non-earbud headphones, I would say these are phenomenal compared to the competition. They have a refined sound that far surpasses the most trendy and overpriced headphones that everyone is so fond of (Beats), but the quality of the sound will depend on where you place these. That doesn't sound too difficult, but given that they do not completely swallow your ears, there can be a good deal of variance in positioning and therefore the sound. I compared these to the P5's, and actually preferred the overall sound of these for all types of music. I thought they were a more "complete" (generally-applicable) headphone than the more expensive ones. For what these are, they are tough to beat for the price. The cords look relatively cheap and could be more durable and better shielded. I did buy a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, which I think are a bit better (after break-in), but they are a completely different and more cumbersome headphone.

Best headphones I've owned thus far.

Posted by: AlanY from Columbia, SC on 01/17/2013I got an opportunity to try these out before buying at an Apple Store. The quality dwarfed everything I have heard previous to them. I had to order them because this is an item that is only found at Best Buy Magnolia stores.
The sound is amazing. Highs are crisp and clear, mids are balanced, and lows are surprisingly well defined. The only headphones I have heard that sound any better are the Bowers and Wilkins P5s.
Comfort was the only issue I have had with these. For my ears, these become uncomfortable after 3-3.5h. I don't see this being an issue for most people though; I have quite a number of piercings that the ear cups placed pressure on.
Some might say that these are not within a reasonable price range, but (for the most part) you get what you pay for.
