The Cosby Show: Period of Adjustment
Erika Alexander joins the cast as Pam Tucker, the 17-year-old second cousin of Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad). Hailing from a poor Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, Pam is rather awestruck by the suburban poshness of the Huxtable household, where she will be staying while her mom is off caring for her sick grandmother. However, Pam is not used to having a curfew, and has trouble adjusting to this new limitation on her social life--especially when her boyfriend Slide (Mushond Lee) invites her to a party in the Bronx. In addition to Tucker and Lee, Allen Payne and Karen Malina White make their first series appearances as Pam's Bronx-dwelling friends Lance and Charmaine. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Clair's Liberation
"I'm healthy. I'm in shape. And I'm beginning menopause." Clearly, Clair (Phylicia Rashad) is not troubled in the least about facing the Change of Life. Such, however, is not the cases with the Huxtable children, who are terrified that Clair will rend the household asunder with hot flashes and mood swings--and thus begin treating her as if she is an invalid, driving her crazy in the process. Prankishly, Clair and Cliff (Bill Cosby) cook up a scheme to convince the youngsters that their worst fears about mom's menopause have come horribly true! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: The Last Barbecue
Although it has been a year since the wedding of the Huxtables' daughter Denise (Lisa Bonet) and Martin Kendall (Joseph C. Phillips), Denise's brother Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) decides to throw a bachelor party for his brother-in-law--complete with a stripper. Denise can't decide what she's maddest about: the fact that Theo would do such a thing, or that Martin hesitates so long before turning down Theo's idea. The couple's argument spreads to eldest daughter Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) and HER husband Elvin (Geoffrey Owens), casting a considerable pall over the annual barbecue held by the girls' father Cliff (Bill Cosby). Grandpa Russell (Earle Hyman) saves the day by recalling his own bachelor party--eliciting a surprising reaction from Grandma Anna (Clarice Taylor). This episode was originally intended to air September 20, 1990 as the opener of The Cosby Show's seventh season. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Bird in the Hand
Cliff (Bill Cosby) makes plans to attend an auction so he can be against his friendly rival Dr. Harmon (Sullivan Walker) for an original Charlie Parker recording. Unfortunately, Denise (Lisa Bonet) is unable to fulfill her obligation to supervise Olivia's preschool class, forcing Cliff to take over the assignment. Undaunted, Cliff continues the bidding over the phone--little realizing that the person who is most arduously bidding against him is NOT Dr. Harmon but instead his own wife Clair (Phylicia Rashad)! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: It's All in the Game
Returning from a relaxing vacation in Vermont, Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) find their household in complete disarray--and even more vexing, all of the kids are making impassioned financial demands upon their long-suffering parents. Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) has been methodically "borrowing" his family's furniture for his own apartment; Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) needs 200 dollars for ice-skating lessons; Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) has been involved in a car accident; and little Olivia (Raven-Symone) has busted the washing machine. Holding an emergency family seminar, Cliff chastizes the children about their money problems and other misdeeds, whereupon they respond in kind by rattling off all of Cliff's shortcomings--including driving their friends crazy with his long-winded childhood yarns! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: It's Your Move
Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) eagerly looks forward to watching a Giants-Eagles playoff game, but his plans are thwarted when Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) commits him to help their friends Nancy (Jackie Marie Roberts) and Walter (Nathaniel Ritch) move. When it becomes obvious that the project will drag on endlessly, Elvin and Walter conspire to sneak out and watch the playoff with Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) and Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner). Ultimately, the only way anyone will be able to see any part of the game is through the auspicts of Cliff (Bill Cosby)--and he's got a rather cruel surprise in store for the guys. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: You Can Go Home Again
Denise (Lisa Bonet) and Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) want to move out of her parents' place and into their own apartment, but little Olivia (Raven-Symone) refuses to leave the Huxtable household. Martin begins to appreciate his daughter's point of view when, while apartment-hunting, Denise "falls in love" with a tiny efficiency which is SO tiny that you have to go outside to chew. In the process of counseling the couple, Cliff and Clair recall their own early experiences living in an wretched flat right next to a heliport! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: The Infantry Has Landed (And They've Fallen Off the Roof)
On the occasion of Rudy's first period, Clair (Phylicia Rashad) declares a "Woman's Day" in order to bond with her daughter. But Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) refuses to talk to her mom about the situation, preferring instead to listen to the misinformation about menstruation being dispensed by her highly imaginative girlfriends. Meanwhile, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) encounters several roadblocks in his efforts to write a "psychological profile" on his dad Cliff (Bill Cosby)--the biggest obstacle being Cliff himself. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Just Thinking About It, Part 2
In the conclusion of a two-part story (originally telecast as a single one-hour special), Pam (Erika Alexander) is still being pressured by her boyfriend Slide (Mushond Lee) to begin having sex with him. When Slide gets angry over Pam's insistence upon using birth control, he blurts out that it's "no big deal" if she gets pregnant--and instantly loses himself a girlfriend. Turning to her family for advice, Pam has a heart-to-heart with cousin Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), who assures her that Slide will one day grow up and take responsibility for his actions, just as Theo himself has (we hope!). And in a separate development, little Olivia (Raven-Symone) tries to pin the blame for her own mischief on an invisible dog. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Just Thinking About It, Part 1
In the first episode of a two-part story (originally telecast as a single one-hour special), Slide (Mushond Lee) is pressuring Pam (Erika Alexander) to prove her love by having sex with him: "We both know how we feel about each other, now's the time we did something about it." In his efforts to prove that "everybody's doing it," Slide gets his friend Lance (Allen Payne) in hot water; it seems that Lance has been bragging about sleeping with his own girlfriend Charmaine (Karen Malina White)--which is news to her! Back at the Huxtable household, Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) try to keep their cool while counseling Pam, but are unable to hide their shock and dismay when she asks permission to take birth-control pills. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Getting the Story
Assigned to do a class video project on "the day in the life of a parent", Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) and Kenny (Deon Richmond) conclude that Clair's (Phylicia Rashad) legal work is too dull, so they beg Cliff (Bill Cosby) to let them follow him on his daily hospital rounds. Cliff agrees only on condition that the youngster confine themselves to his office and the waiting room. Chafing at these restrictions, the kids sneak all around the hospital and tape several things that they shouldn't--and to top off their indiscretions, they lend their camera to a prospective father (Francisco Rivela) who wants to film Cliff in the act of delivering his wife's baby! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: It's a Boy
Embarrassed that his wife Bernice (Catherine Cox) is more athletically skilled than he is, father-to-be Alfred Phelps (Ray Demattis) prevails upon Cliff (Bill Cosby) to act as his sports coach, in anticipation of the birth of the couple's son. Alas, Cliff's input does nothing to build up Mr. Phelps' ego, so it is up to Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) to straighten out a knotty situation. Meanwhile, Pam (Erika Alexander) prepares for a date with Aaron Dexter (Seth Gilliam), an intelligent but timid fellow who is quite a contrast to Pam's boisterous Bed-Stuy buddies. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Same Time Next Year
Season Seven of The Cosby Show begins with the traditonal "emptying of the nest", as Cliff and Clair Huxtable (Bill Cosby, Phylicia Rashad) bundle their progeny off to school. Second-eldest daughter Denise (Lisa Bonet) launches what she hopes will be a rewarding career in special education as she enters her first semester at Medgar Evers College; having graduated from high school a year early, third daughter Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) heads off to Lincoln University; youngest daughter Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) prepares for the sixth grade; and Denise's stepdaughter Olivia (Raven-Symone) starts preschool. Of the four, Rudy is the most trepidatious, worried that she'll be a social outcast because she hasn't "developed" as prominently as her friend Margie, a shortcoming she hopes to overcome with a special "bust-enhancing" cream. At the same time, the Huxtable's son Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) returns to the fold after an archeological expedition in Europe. Though she doesn't appear in this episode, series newcomer Erika Alexander is billed amongst the regular cast in the role of Clair's underprivileged second cousin Pam Tucker. (Note: this episode was originally slated to air on September 27, 1990). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Attack of the Killer B's
Pam (Erika Alexander) is working extremely hard in school, in hopes of attending college. Alas, her cynical boyfriend Slide (Mushond Lee) puts a damper on her plans by reminding her that she'll never be able to afford higher education. Upon hearing this, Pam's teacher Miss Hobbs (Shellye Broughton) surprisingly sides with Slide, agreeing that Pam really doesn't need college--and then itemizes the difficulties the girl will face if she tries entering the "real world" without a degree. Meanwhile, Cliff (Bill Cosby) braces himself for the inevitable moment that Pam will hit him up for a loan! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: 27 and Still Cooking
Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) have something REALLY special in mind for their 27th wedding anniversary: a meticulously detailed reenactment of their first honeymoon meal. Cliff has gone so far as to replicate the atmosphere of the Carribean restaurant where it all took place, replete with decorations, calypso music and even the original chef, Mr. Atkins (Clebert Ford). Trouble is, Atkins has moved upward in his profession and now considers the Huxtables' first meal to be beneath his talents -- and accordingly, he insists upon "improving" the menu to the point that Cliff completely loses his appetite! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: The Return of the Clairettes
Leslie Uggams guest stars as Kris Temple, beloved high school chum of Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad). As Clair and Kris gigglingly recreate their salad days by swapping gossip, wearing wigs and bursting into song, their husbands Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Herb (Ron Foster) take advantage of their wives' preoccupation to gorge themselves on a scrumptious dessert menu. Elsewhere, Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) tries to get around her parents' "no dates until you're thirteen" rule by claiming that she is going on a "group outing" with two girls and three boys. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Cliff and Jake
Hoping to take advantage of a sale at the appliance store owned by his old pal Jake Bennett (Red Buttons), Cliff (Bill Cosby) ends up as peacemaker in a long-standing feud between Jake and another septugenarian named Stanley Rappaport (E.G. Marshall). Not only is Cliff's new power sander at stake, but so is the "Montague-Capulet" romance between Jake's daughter Cookie (Audrey Landers) and Stanley's son Jonathan (Ken Meseroll). Originally produced for Season Six of The Cosby Show, this episode marks the final appearance of Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable Kendall. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Theo and the Kids, Part 1
In the first episode of a two-part story, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) begins his internship as a community-center counselor assigned to "The Rosa Parks Group", a collection of underprivileged 7th graders. Unable to maintain his professional aloofness, Theo puts in overtime trying to help a bright youngster named Stanley (Merlin Santana, in his first series appearance), whose inability to finish his schoolwork may be due to dyslexia. And back at the Huxtable home, Cliff (Bill Cosby) instills terror in the hearts of his family as he sets about to fix the sink. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Theo and the Kids, Part 2
In the conclusion of a two-part story, novice community-center youth counselor Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is frustrated in his efforts to help a bright but troubled teen named Stanley (Merlin Santana), who may be suffering from dyslexia--but refuses to be tested for fear of being stigmatized as "different." Weighed down by a plethora of similar crises, Theo begins to wonder if he is capable of handling his new job--prompting his dad Cliff and the center's head Mrs. Hudson (Lynne Thigpen) to team up for some "counseling" of their own. This is the final episode of The Cosby Show's seventh season. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: There's Still No Joy in Mudville
Cliff (Bill Cosby), Russell (Earle Hyman) and a pair of Negro Baseball League veterans named Frank (played by real life Major League hall-of-famer Frank Robinson) and Joe (Joe Black) spend a delightful afternoon swapping baseball stories. Miffed by this plebian conviviality, Cliff doctor friend Jim (Sullivan Walker) and his snobbish cohort Carleton (Norman Beaton) begin trading stories about the "gentleman's" game of cricket. One thing leads to another, and ere the sun sets Jim has challenged Cliff to a winner-take-all cricket match--in the Huxtable living room. Sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, the husband of series costar Phylicia Rashad, appears as a TV game-show host in a subplot involving a suddenly "brilliant" Olivia (Raven-Symone). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: No More Mr. Nice Guy
With his parents' guarded permission, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) arranges to have a dinner date with Cheryl (Vanessa Williams) in the Huxtable home. Just before the big event, in walks Ellen (Troy Beyer), the girl friend of Theo's pal Denny (Troy Winbush), who wants to discuss Denny's upcoming birthday party with Theo. Inadvertently mixing wines with her antihistamines, Ellen ends up falling asleep in Cliff and Clair's bedroom. As a nervous Theo tries to hide the unconscious Clair from both his parents and Denny, Cheryl finally shows up--and she's no mood for explanations! Previously slated to air on two separate occasions in the fall of 1990, this episode marks the last regular appearance of Joseph C. Phillips as Martin Kendall. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Home Remedies
Olivia (Raven-Symone) comes down with a bad case of laryngitis just before she is to sing for her grandparents' 55th anniversary. When none of the family's exotic "home remedies" prove successful, Olivia retreats to her bedroom, refusing to attend the anniversary party because she feels she's let everyone down. At the last moment, Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) come up with a solution to Olivia's plight--a solution involving a spirited lip-synch rendition of Koko Taylor's "I'm a Woman". ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Nightmare on Stigwood Avenue
Seething with jealousy because she feels Olivia (Raven-Symone) has usurped her position as the "cute" Huxtable, Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) has a nightmare wherein Olivia is an evil force who uses her cuteness to manipulate everyone around her. "I have grownups under my spell" smirks the "other" Olivia, and she proceeds to prove it by twisting Cliff (Bill Cosby), Clair (Phylicia Rashad) et. al around her little finger and getting anything she wants. The limit comes when Olivia's pony takes over Rudy's bed--and thank heaven that Rudy's parents prove to be as loyal and supportive in her imagination as they are in real life. Throughout this wildly fanciful episode, Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe), Pam (Erika Alexander) and Charmaine (Karen Malina White) function as a "nightmare chorus", a la Little Shop of Horrors. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Adventures in Babysitting
Tired of playing pinochle with their wives, Cliff Huxtable (Bill Cosby) and his friend Jim Harmon (Sullivan Walker) partner up for tournament. When Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad) and Nichole (Michelle Shay) team up for the same tournament, their husbands mock them--but no one is laughing when, after defeating the defending champions, the ladies square off against Cliff Jim in a grudge match. Meanwhile, in keeping with the episode's title, Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) insists that she is old enough to babysit for her stepsister Olivia (Raven-Symone)--leading to a "scare" situation and a booby-trapped house reminiscent of star Bill Cosby's classic monologue "Chicken Heart." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Total Control
John Ritter and his future wife Amy Yasbeck show up in this episode as high school coach Ray Evans and his pregnant spouse Alicia. A lifelong control freak on the job and at home, Ray has prepared meticulously for the moment that Alicia gives birth, carefully rehearsing every possible scenario. But when Alicia actually goes into labor, Ray forgets his "winning strategy" and panics--leaving it up to Cliff (Bill Cosby) to salvage the situation with a bit of astute psychology. This episode is unusual in that none of the Huxtable children makes an appearance. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The Cosby Show: Theo's Final Final
A grim-visaged Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) puts his social life on hold in order to study for an economics exam that could very well place him on the Dean's List. Unfortunately, he is sidetracked by a pretty exchange student from Barbados, whom he impulsively invites to the party that he had previously turned down in order to cram for the exam. Vanessa Williams plays the girl who unwittingly throws temptation in poor Theo's path. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
