Canon - EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Focal Lens

Posted by: LGDryer from NW Atlanta on 05/18/2013Great capture in low light situations for stills. Video capture is ok, but noisy operation causes bad back round noise on audio recording.

Great Lens for Portraits
5
Posted by: keirikaze from Charlotte, NC on 05/18/2013Used this lens with my T3i for portraiture and automotive photos; the bokeh and depth of field are very good for a lens this price. I have have stopped using the 18-55 that came with the camera and am using just this 50mm for all of my short range shots. Love it.

Great fixed lens for those on a budget

Posted by: tstabler117 from Prattville, AL on 05/10/2013As I said, the price of this lens is excellent for the quality image you get. For those who are on a budget and want to be able to capture good quality photos of your family, pets, etc, this lens fits the bill. We are using it on a Canon 60D and the pictures are coming out wonderful in our opinions. My wife loves it.

Great photos on a budget
5
Posted by: gizmotronic from Wisconsin on 05/05/2013I bought this lens expecting to be able to take some decent pictures without breaking my budget. Instead, I was able to take great pictures on a budget! I'll skip the superlatives and simply say that this lens is, by far, the best investment that you can make for your first lens after the kit lens you probably got with your camera. The f/1.8 aperture will give you a great deal more flexibility, whether you're practicing photography as art or just wanting to capture memories.
The only real downsides to this lens are durability and noise. Neither of these are severe problems for me. I don't expect to be in any quiet locations that the motor noise would be a distraction. And, at this price, if it breaks it wouldn't be much of a burden to have to buy another.
