PowerShot G12 Digital Camera combines 10.0 megapixel sensor and the DIGIC 4 Image Processor to create Canon's HS System for better low light performance and image quality. The camera automatically adjusts the ISO speed from ISO 320 to ISO 12800 in relation to ambient brightness, subject movement and camera shake. Hybrid IS compensates for angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting. You can also shoot 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels) video in stereo sound and play back on an HDTV via the HDMI output. Full range of shooting and recording modes include RAW and JPEG for creative control in editing. Large, bright 2.8" Vari-angle LCD has 461,000 dots for shooting at a variety of angles plus an optical viewfinder. Digital camera also offers 5x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, a 28mm wide-angle Lens, 4X digital built-in flash, and continuous shooting. Storage media includes SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, and HC MMC Plus Card.

Good camera for a beginner to grow into.
Posted by: from Norristown, PA. on 10/30/2012Love this camera. I've shot everything from half frame to 8x10 and I'm fairly new to digital photography. I like that this camera has some weight to it. It feels like a workhorse. I was concerned about the quality of the lens but so far everything I've shot from Macro to landscape has been crisp. I use this camera in Raw mode usually. For quick pics I use it in program mode with the EV at -3/4. I noticed that I get the best result that way. I don't have to manipulate the image much before printing. The manual mode is very easy to use and the feeling of total control over the image is quite gratifying. I shot photos around a fire pit at a gathering and the low light setting worked excellent. I was being lazy and thought I'd try it out. I'm impressed. Shot video at a concert and the quality was excellent. Only gripe, couldn't use my external mic because the camera has the smaller audio input size. Didn't realize that at the time. Other than that, no complaints. Like I said, Love this Camera.

Great camera but still just Point&Shoot
Posted by: from Manassas, VA on 09/28/2012I bought this camera because of the manual features (especially the manual focus) and I was disappointed! This camera cannot focus well at close-up distance and the manual focusing at all is a nightmare! Close-up pictures are far beyond the acceptable quality although the specification stated 1cm/.4" focusing distance! It's an EXCELLENT POINT&SHOOT camera especially at low light, but you cannot use it as DSLR substitute! It's the heaviest camera of its class that I've ever had. If you are OK with the weight and if you don't need the manual features, Canon G12 could be your perfect choice for taking exceptional Point&Shoot quality pictures!

Best compact camera I've used.
Posted by: from Pittsburgh on 08/15/2012This is the finest compact (non dSLR) camera I've used. The photo quality is amazing. Could sometimes use a little more zoom, but I think in the end you would lose some of the sharpness of this lens. In most cases, I reach for this camera over my Nikon dSLR (D5000), except in extreme low light conditions, or when I need additional zoom. With a little use, and practice, you can get some pretty nice low light shots as well. Fantastic camera.

Get it on sale
Posted by: from York, PA on 08/14/2012I purchased this camera from Best Buy while it was on sale and I am glad I did. I love the camera, but there are better camera's for only a little more than it's normal list price. I found this camera because I was looking for something better than a point and shoot and cheaper than a DSLR and for that this camera is perfect. My last camera was a Canon so the buttons and menus are all familiar to me, but I still think it would be manageable for someone without Canon background. As far as size, the camera does fit in some pockets, but if portability is a priority, look else where.

Great piece of equipment
Posted by: from Pennington, NJ on 07/11/2012I am 77 years old and have a lot of cameras over the years.. Nikons, Canons, Rollies, Hasselblads, etc. I currently have a pocket camera that was outdated and I wanted to replace it with something that had good video as well as high-quality snapshot capability. This is the camera! It works great in the auto/auto mode but your have all the choices to pick your own settings, i.e., iso, shutter, f-stop, macro, etc. It does bulge your pocket a bit so I have been using a small pouch on my belt. For what you get with this camera, having to deal with a little more size is well worth it. Picture quality is eye popping good. I love this camera.

Canon "The Most Superior Camera" out there!
Posted by: from San Jose, California on 06/25/2012I purchased the Canon PowerShot G12 in June 16,2012 and used the camera during a 4 day cruise. The shots I took from the camer came out Superb! as in High Def Colored Pictures. I took about 500-550 shots and 3-4 movies (~ 2 minutes each) and still have 1600 plus availble shots using Sandisk ULtra 8G SDHC...The Powershot G12 is my second canon powershot. The first powershot I bought from Best Buy was a Powershot A80 back 2003. In 2007, I had the camera repaired for 100bucks for an Error reading. I still have the A80 and works perfect. I needed a larger screen and that is why I upgraded to a G12. I am very happy with my G12 & A80 powershots.. :-)

Love it!
Posted by: from Roanoke, VA on 06/21/2012This camera is great. I searched for a while for a new camera before finally deciding on this one based on a recommendation from a friend's dad who is a professional photographer and owner of a gallery. I was not disappointed. The first trip with the camera was to Argentina and it took awesome pictures of the Andes as well as the trees in the Arrayanes Nation Forest. Great pictures on a larger scale, as well as pictures of all of our meals turned out great. Used AUTO for a lot of the trip, but toyed around with other features which turned out some great pics. With a little bit of practice and time with the camera, I feel like this thing will be able to do a lot.
