Before You Buy: A "Battery" Lesson....4

Yes, this camera does take AA batteries, however, before you purchase, understand that typical standard AA batteries last about three seconds before they are drained. Ok, maybe that is not completely accurate but do NOT use standard AA batteries in a camera like this because you won't get much life out of them and find yourself replacing them very often.
But, here is the problem. Having owned the previous models (SX120, SX130, and even the SX150), and having a lot of luck with those previous models using NmHi batteries, I found that not to be the case with the new SX160 as it drains even these higher end rechargeable batteries just as fast as a standard AA battery. I am not sure why since the SX160 was not a big change over the SX150 model, but I have been noticing that fully-charged NmHi batteries drain after about a dozen photos without the flash.
Overall this is a great camera, with loads of features, but I am quite turned off by the battery life, as well as the lag time between flashes as another reviewer here commented on. I am planning on contacting Canon directly and finding out why the previous models worked wonderfully with NmHi batteries but this newer SX160 model doesn't, hopefully they have an answer to that question.8 out of 8 found this review helpful.

Easy to hold and read4

I bought the camera for my elderly mother so she could get a firm grip on it and read the buttons and knobs. Most of the other cameras are compact, but this is medium sized and easy to hold. The camera has a long flash recharging time and is a battery guzzler. It also doesn't do too well for sports action shots and is missing an automatic flash popup. Overall, it's easy to use, read and hold, but be prepared and keep extra lithium batteries on hand.6 out of 6 found this review helpful.

AA Batteries?1

On our most recent trip, we had to buy batteries every other day. We couldn't believe how quickly the batteries died. By mid-day, the camera would shut down. We didn't even shoot any videos. It uses AA batteries, so on our 11 day trip, we spent quite a bit on batteries alone. Needless to say, as soon as we got back, we exchanged the camera for one that uses a rechargeable battery.6 out of 8 found this review helpful.

Basic camera, doesn't meet expectations3

Very disappointing, I expected better. F-stop range doesn't allow for a lot of flexibility-negates #of pixels. Pictures are blurred and lack appropriate contrast.2 out of 2 found this review helpful.

I came to best-buy to buy a camera, I had in mind to spending under $400 but when I saw the price of this camera I was surprised, as I was looking at the features a sales rep from Sony approached me and asked me what had catch my eye with this camera, I said price and features, he said well let me see if we can do any better, we walked over to the Sony section and he showed me the equivalent to the Canon - PowerShot SX160 IS 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera. but the price was like $180 more. so I said can you match the price, he said "NO". I took this camera on a trip to Mexico and we took over 300 beautiful pictures, I uploaded the pictures to my TV and invited friends over and they were impressed with the quality of the pictures. one friend was so impressed that she decided to go buy her own. over all its a bit bulky camera but the quality is really good for the price.7 out of 7 found this review helpful.
