Posted by: from Virginia on 05/11/2013I used an Android device and a PC with this camera. I don't know if there's a functional difference between Conour's Android/PC app and their Apple app.
Here are the things I did not know prior to purchasing the camera: 1) You cannot delete individual videos within the camera or watch them. 2) You cannot turn on or off LEDs once you remove the camera from your PC, unless you get creative with your 1&2 switch settings, which will limit what you can do with the 1&2 switch otherwise. 3) You cannot enable Bluetooth after you've started recording manually, nor can you enable it, start recording, then try to connect (you HAVE to enable it, wait for the Contour app to connect, then you can record). 4) The 270 degree rotating lens goes from -90 - +180. This is an issue if you plan to mount it upside down, and you happen to need the lens to go to +184ish degrees. 5) When the camera is mounted on a standard camera mount and in motion, the mic pics up tons of vibrations.
The construction of the camera is top notch. I was very impressed with the quality of daytime footage (once I set the sharpness to maximum)... there was barely any lens aberration on the edges of the video. However, the auto white balance would turn the scene blue or magenta at random (seemingly), but more than 50% of the time got it right. If you don't like the AWB, you can set it manually.
It comes with a 4GB microSD card, which gives you about half an hour of recording time. I saw this as more of an inclusion just so they could fill up space on the box on the list of things included. It's kind of an insult really. Combine that with the fact that you can't delete unwanted footage without formatting the card (you can format with a button hold on the camera itself), and you have a useless item that wouldn't be fit for a common smartphone.
The camera cannot record while charging using the included USB cable. However, there is a car adapter that will allow you to record while charging, but it isn't in Best Buy's inventory and is currently out of stock on Contour's website. Luckily, the battery lasts 2+ hours and is interchangeable... unluckily, you can't charge one battery while using the other one.
The audio is mostly useless. You can turn up the mic sensitivity, but that just seems to make the ambient noise louder as the stuff you want to hear is drowned out. The camera is made to hook up an external mic, which I'm sure would work great, unless you're using the waterproof case, then you get no sound.
The camera beeps are extremely loud. This is good if you have the camera mounted on your helmet, while on a motorcycle. This is not good if you're setting the camera up for the first time, with a sleeping infant on the other side of the house. They can be turned off.
I would recommend this camera to someone so long as they know that it has these mostly unspoken of limitations, as the video quality is excellent and the form factor perfect for most any application.

Mine was a dud

Posted by: AdamK2013 from Ontario, Canada on 04/01/2013Bought this for a ski trip. Works great in indoor temperatures. Once it was -5C out it didn't work. Others had the same camera and it was fine, so I think mine was a dud. I returned it.

Roam2's spoiled sister

Posted by: HueJass from Ct on 03/27/2013I bought a contour roam2 as an impulse buy for 199, after a week I decided I needed the contour +2 for the Bluetooth app and was not happy about it being TWICE the price. Oh, it also has GPS that is only used by the Contour Storyteller software that I will never ever use for video. After purchasing the +2 I plugged in the USB cable to my car charger that the "cheap budget version" roam2 worked fine with , and it would not charge. USB has to be connected to a computer for some reason. The battery, though removable, was awful even with GPS turned off. I would recommend two contour roam2s for the price of this.

GREAT HelmetCam!

Posted by: OBRob from Texas on 01/27/2013This thing is so easy to use. Just slide a switch and it records! REALLY easy to do with gloved hands, and you don't have to see what you are doing to slide the switch. The 1080p video is BEAUTIFUL. The color and clarity is fantastic. With Bluetooth you can be wearing the camera and use your phone to SEE what you are videoing. That makes it really easy to make adjustments. Then you can start the recording via the phone. This is a great feature if you are using the camera at more than arms length away. The lens spins around so that you can straighten out the picture with the horizon once you get it securely mounted. You'll never again have to turn your head while watching your videos! Add to all this the GPS functions. While watching your video, you can choose to display the Information screen that shows your speed, elevation, and a Goggle Map of what you were doing. I got this for my wife for Christmas. I was a little worried that it might be a lame gift. She LOVES it. Whew.
It is not a cheap camera, but you get what you pay for. It comes with a waterproof case and a mount you can stick anywhere. Other mounts or sets of mounts are pretty pricey. It also has a standard camera mount you could use with other mounting hardware if you don't want to buy their proprietary mounts. The built in microphone works, but is muffled a bit. We have plans to get an external lavaliereer for better recordings.
Have not had a chance to try the waterproof case yet...
A friend has the Go-Pro. We did a side-by-side comparison and the Countour won every time! Design, weight, and functionality are the best out there right now. Do the research. I spent 3 weeks looking and reading. I have ZERO regrets.
Well, I DO have one regret.... I regret I don't have the time to do all the things I want to try with this camera!

Great camera but for downloading

Posted by: Captdarren from Tampa Fl on 01/26/2013Love the camera for video or pic taking( a pic every 3 to 30 sec settings). Bluetooth to a smart phone is great for set-up. Downloading video can be difficult due to poor instruction manual. Once you do download the video, it is in quicktime video storage type which is difficult to convert and not sent or shared well.

Posted by: Erip from Ct on 01/20/2013I would rate this 5 stars if the file format was standard mov or mp4. But for some reason it does not play in Final cut pro X and i have to spend hours of recompressing before i can use them. I hope they fix this with a firmware update.
GPS and Bluetooth are cool but reduce battery life.

Buyer Beware!!!

Posted by: TheFool from on 12/04/2012Customer Serivce Was Poor To Say The Least. I think you need to have a relative that works for Contour if you would like your questions answered. As for the quality of the product, several parts of the camera itself wobble and do not symmetricaly align. I was very unhappy when I tried to plug my cord in the inside of the camera and it would not connect without excessive force. Upon removing the plugged connection I notice small broken pieces of camera fall out and onto the floor. I think they should of taken a page out of German engineering to accomplish a functional small camera design.
