The Cosby Show: Cliff la Dolce
With both Clair (Phylicia Rashad) and Denise (Lisa Bonet) out of town, Cliff (Bill Cosby) is left alone to take care of his other daughters, as well as Denise's stepchild Olivia (Raven-Symone). Almost immediately, Cliff alienates Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) by giving her some advice which backfires--and to make matters even dicier, Rudy's teacher Mrs. McGee (Elaine Stritch) tears into Cliff for giving the girl too much help with her homework. Meanwhile, Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) tries to finagle Cliff in letting her attend a party which had previously been vetoed by Clair; and Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) takes advantage of Olivia's presence to impress his latest girlfriend. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Getting to Know You
Left to their own devices, Cliff (Bill Cosby) and his new son-in-law Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) find common ground in their individual Navy experiences--a male-bonding session which culminates with Cliff arranging a celebration to "officially" give his daughter Denise (Lisa Bonet) away in marriage. Elsewhere, the Huxtable women pressure Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) into dressing up as an elf to bring some Holiday cheer to a group of hospitalized kids. And little Olivia (Raven-Symone) asks a very pointed question about the ethnic origin of Santa Claus. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Denise Kendall: Babysitter
Denise (Lisa Bonet) has trouble understanding why Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) is so worn out taking care of her twins Nelson and Winnie--or at least, she HAD trouble understanding until she herself volunteers to spend an evening as babysitter. Our heroine soon gets a clue to what she's in for when the power fails and the twins start screaming uncontrollably. because they can't watch their favorite video. But the situation doesn't really spiral out of control until Denise forgets about baby Winnie's food allergy. With this episode, twins Christopher Griggs and Clayton Griggs take over from Everett Wilson and Ronald Wilson in the role of Nelson Tibideaux. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Shall We Dance?
Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) is quite fond of her classmate Clarence (Michael A. Moran), and the feeling is mutual. Unfortunately, Clarence caves into peer pressure from his male friends and begins harrassing Rudy, whereupon she and her friends retaliate in kind. The situation soon gets nasty, culminating with Clarence getting pummelled by Rudy--and it is at this point that the kids' teacher Mrs. McGee (Elaine Stritch) force-feeds them a crash course in Etiquette! Featured in the cast is Tatyana Ali, who later appeared as Ashley Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Denise Kendall: Navy Wife
Thanks to Denise's faulty memory, Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) finds himself without housing arrangements when he reports for duty in Rhode Island--and even worse, Martin is embarrassed in front of his commanding officer when Denise (Lisa Bonet) tries to alibi the situation. But the big loser turns out to be Cliff (Bill Cosby), who now must put up with six additional months of having Denise, Martin, and Martin's daughter Olivia (Raven-Symone) under his roof. Can it be that Denise subconsciously "planned" all this, out of fear of being separated from her parents? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: Theo's Gift
In this pivotal episode, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) continues to be frustrated that he can't score any better than a "C" in his college subjects, no matter how hard he studies. Cliff (Bill Cosby) tries to help out by suggesting that Theo try just a bit harder, but succeeds only in making the situation worse. It is up to Mrs. Roscoe (Alva Chinn), the head of a local learning center, to zero in on the real problem: Theo may be dyslexic. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Denise: The Saga Continues
The sixth season of The Cosby Show opens as prodigal daughter Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet, once again a series regular) returns from her photographic assignment in Africa. Denise has brought along a couple of surprises for her parents Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad)--specifically, a new husband, Navy lieutenant Martin Kendall (Joseph C. Phillips), and three-year-old Olivia (Raven-Symone) Martin's daughter from a previous marriage! Once they've overcome the shock of Denise's new "family", Cliff and Clair must face the prospect of providing housing for Martin and Olivia until he is shipped out. Denise's blasé attitude over the entire situation does not rest well with the elder Huxtables, and it is up to little Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) to save the day. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: Surf's Up
Cliff (Bill Cosby) is upset that his son Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) hasn't invited him to his new apartment, all because Theo is worried that Cliff's long-winded anecdotes would bore his roommates. Happily, this proves not to be the case; unhappily, Theo and his buddies are evicted after trying to replicate one of Cliff's childhood stunts! Anthony Quinn guest stars as Theo's irascible landlord in this episode, which also introduces two new sets of twin child actors as the children of Cliff's eldest daughter Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: I'm 'In' With the 'In' Crowd
To take a break from boys, Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) goes to an all-girl party with her friend Susan (Lisa Rieffel). Out of boredom, the girls inaugurate a drinking contest called "The Alphabet Game"--and despite her initial resistance, Vanessa ends up stewed to the gills! Although the agonies suffered by Vanessa throughout the "morning after" are all too familiar, the reaction of her parents Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) to the situation are most surprising indeed. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: The Day the Spores Landed
In a wild and surprisingly profound foray into fantasy, Cliff (Bill Cosby) dreams that a Peruvian volcano eruption has polluted the world's water supply, resulting in a epidemic of pregnant men. As a result, Cliff, Elvin (Geoffrey Owens), Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) and Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) waddle around with bloated bellies and suffer spectacular mood-swings--while the women in their lives prove to be insensitive in the extreme. But all this is mere prologue to the episode's riotous climax, in which the malefolk "give birth" to such bizarre progeny as sailboats, sportscars and steak sandwiches! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Cliff's Wet Adventure
Cliff (Bill Cosby) braves a terrific rainstorm to purchase a few extra ingredients for the Huxtables' Thanksgiving dinner--only to be forced back into the deluge time and again because he keeps forgetting one "little" item after another. To top off the situation, Martin's ex-wife Paula (Victoria Rowell) shows up unexpectedly. How will Denise (Lisa Bonet) react upon meeting her matrimonial predecessor face-to-face? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Grampy and Nu-Nu Visit the Huxtables
The prevalent situation in this episode is summed up by a dialogue exchange between Denise (Lisa Bonet) and her husband Martin (Joseph C. Phillips), in which Martin asks Denise where she ever got the silly idea that his mother didn't like her, whereupon she replies: "You said, and I'm quoting you, 'My mother can't stand you." With this in mind, Denise is a nervous wreck when her in-laws Lorraine and Joe Kendall (Nancy Wilson, Moses Gunn) pay a visit to the Huxtable household. The climax finds Denise in a showdown with Lorraine--just as Denise's dad Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Martin's dad Joe find that, in spite of everything, they're not so far apart. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Elvin Pays for Dinner
Preoccupied with filling out law-school applications, Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) permits Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) to go out to dinner with with his former school friend Iris (Tonya Pinkins) and her sister Judy (Brenda Braxton)--provided he returns in time to drive the twins' babysitters Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) and Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) back home. Alas, not only does Elvin stay out too late, but he further aggravates the situation by paying for dinner, an act of generosity than he can barely afford. Now in the doghouse with Sondra, Elvin turns to Cliff (Bill Cosby) for advice--always a risky proposition! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Not Everybody Loves the Blues
B.B. King guest stars as legendary blues singer Riley Jackson, the lifelong idol of Theo Huxtable (Malcolm-Jamal Warner). Thrilled to discover that Jackson is an old friend of his grandparents Russell and Anna, Theo ends up seeking advice from Riley on an affair of the heart. This leads to a snowballing series of misinterpreted singals, wherein everybody concludes that Theo is primed to pop the question to his girlfriend Justine (Michelle Thomas). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: The Moves
Involved in a legal action to prevent a community center from losing its playground, Clair finds out that the opposing attorney is her longtime friend Bernadette Foley (Mercedes Ruehl). At the same time, the Huxtables' novelist neighbor Jeffrey Engels (Wallace Shawn) is undergoing a middle-aged crisis, desperately endeavoring to change his lifestyle and appearance so that no one will consider him "dull." Inevitably, Bernadette and Jeffrey meet--but will romance result? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: Cliff's Nightmare
There is a terrible price to pay when Cliff (Bill Cosby) devours a sausage sandwich as a midnight snack. Sure enough, Cliff suffers a nightmare in which he is back in the Navy with son Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) as his CO, wife Clair (Phylicia Rashad) is sucked out of the house by a tornado, and Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) disgraces the family by becoming a jazz-funk performer. Add to this some monsters, a staff of muppet doctors, a talking sandwich and the birth of "Koozbanian" and you can understand why Cliff ultimately swears off sausages--at least until next time. Several members of The Cosby Show's writing and production staff show up in cameos. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Live and Learn
Still hoping to become a special-ed teacher, Denise (Lisa Bonet) may not have the academic credits to qualify for graduate school. What Denise needs is "an alternative to traditional education"--just the sort of thing offered by unorthodox math instructor "Uncle" Wilton (Wilton Banks) and doctor-cum-drummer Gordon Darton (Max Roach). Alas, even with the input of these two gentleman, Denise may still be forced to give up her dreams...or will she? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: The Storyteller
The family gathers to celebrate the 98th birthday of Cliff's Great-Aunt Harriet "Gramtee" McCutcheon (Minnie Gentry). Although most of the family members are enthralled by Gramtee's fascinating stories about the old days (both bad and good), Olivia (Raven-Symone) is at first sullen and unresponsive, angered that the party has spoiled her plans to go to the zoo. Ultimately, Denise (Lisa Bonet) takes charge of the situation, proving beyond doubt that she is taking her newfound maternal responsibilities very, very seriously. This is the final episode of The Cosby Show's sixth season. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Isn't It Romantic?
Although Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is still smitten by Justine, he insists that her talk of marriage "sucks the romance" out of the relationship. Appalled by this philosophy, Cliff (Bill Cosby), Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) and Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) all but fall over themselves to prove how romantic they can be with their wives. Cliff's insists that the more money a husband spends, the more affectionate he is; challenging this attitude, Elvin and Martin wager that they can "win over" their spouses without exceeding a 25-dollar limit! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Denise Kendall: Singles Counselor
After arranging a date between Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) and a cute guy named Elliot (Garland Whitt), Denise (Lisa Bonet) entertains thoughts of becoming a singles counselor. But "entertaining" is hardly the operative word when Elliot turns out to already have a girflriend named Shayna (Malinda Williams)--and he goes to Denise, begging advice on how to dump one girl in favor of another. Stuck in the middle of a menage-a-trois in the making, helpful Denise succeeds only in getting into hot water with everyone concerned! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: The Birthday Party
It's a recipe for disaster when Denise (Lisa Bonet) and Martin (Joseph C. Phillips) insist upon handling Olivia's fourth birthday party without any help from the Huxtables. For starters, the couple has planned a menu of "all-healthy" foods, which the kids reject outright. Things go from bad to worse to just plain awful when Denise forgets to rent a video, resulting in a houseful of screaming and squalling urchins. As Cliff (Bill Cosby) tries to mollify the youngsters, Olivia (Raven-Symone) launches a housewide hunt for her birthday present, and ends up raiding the refrigerator for some "real" food. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Cosby Show: Mr. Sandman
Schoolteacher Mrs. McGee (Elaine Stritch) informs the Huxtables that Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) has refused to participate in a "Roaring Twenties" dance presentation. It turns out that Rudy is too self-conscious to appear on stage with her more experienced dance partner George (Z. Wright). To build up her daughter's confidence, Clair (Phylicia Rashad) orders Rudy to enroll in a tapdancing class--where the teacher turns out to be none other than the legendary Howard "Sandman" Sims. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Rudy's Walk on the Wild Side
Hoping to buy a trendy shirt, Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam) is short $2.30, so she gives Kenny (Deon Richmond) her autographed photo of Magic Johnson--only to end up empty-handed because Kenny hasn't got the cash just now. With her sister Vanessa (Tempestt Bleadsoe) already bugging mom Clair (Phylicia Rashad) to advance her allowance to purchase a CD, Rudy is moved to an act of desperation: namely, "borrowing" the money that Clair has saved up for the dry cleaners, fully intending to replace the cash after Kenny comes through. The result: Clair becomes convinced that she's losing her memory--and Rudy is too terrified to tell the truth. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Off to See the Wretched
Hoping to sneak off to a Baltimore concert by the rock band "Wretched", Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) and her friends Janet (Pam Potillo), Kara (Elizabeth Narvaez) and Susan (Lisa Rieffel) cook up an elaborate charade to convince their parents that they're actually attending a sleepover in the home of Susan's grandmother. No sooner have the girls arrived in Baltimore than their borrowed car, and their concert tickets, are stolen. Meanwhile, a fire breaks out in the house next door to the one where the sleepover is allegedly taking place...and when Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) hear the news on TV, all Heck breaks loose! This episode was codirected by series regular Malcolm-Jamal Warner (Theo). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: What's It All About?
Under the mounting pressures of the most difficult case of her legal career, Clair (Phylicia Rashad) is in danger of burning out completely. To avoid this catastrophe, Cliff (Bill Cosby) ships Clair off to his friend's vacation cabin, hoping that the solitude will bring her peace. This, of course, does not happen--and even worse, once she arrives at the cabin, Clair finds that she may be unable to return home in time for her court date! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Cosby Show: Theo's Dirty Laundry
Finding a pair of female undergarments in Theo's laundry, Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Clair (Phylicia Rashad) arrive at the conclusion that their son has moved in with his girlfriend Justine (Michelle Thomas). Admitting to this, Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) insists that he has done so merely to save on rent, but his parents are outraged, and tell him that he and Justine must separate immediately, else they will cut off all financial support. In desperate need of a sympathetic ear, Theo turns to Justine's parents, with surprising results. Meanwhile, another story arc is introduced as Denise (Lisa Bonet) decides to become a special-ed teacher. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Not the best season but good

Posted by: from on 04/23/2008I think Raven Simone over-acted (granted she was very young) but I think it took away from the believablity of the Cosby Show as seen in earlier years. There are still a lot of laughs to be had in this season and I'll still enjoy watching and rewatching this as I have my other seasons of the show.
