Did not work out of the box1

This receiver is garbage, and failed to work out of the box. When I plugged it in (no speakers attached) the unit stays on for approx 3 seconds and then powers down. A red warning light will then blink until you unplug the unit.
I called Denon, and they basically said that I was SOL. They instructed me to take the receiver to a repair shop 50 miles away from my home and depending on what the problem was, it SHOULD be covered under warranty.
I would be EXTREMELY cautious buying this unit, mine arrived broken.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

Great replacement for 14 year old AVR5

Finally replaced old CRT Analog TV with Plasma HD. The TEAC was still great, but couldn't connect with all the new stuff. The AVR-1513 fit the bill perfectly for my existing sound system. Bose speakers, 26 foot high ceiling, rear speakers 20 feet back and 16 feet high, 400W Infinity sub woofer. We actually had things fall off the wall watching Lord of the Rings.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

I love Denon products. It pushes my speakers to the limits and is wonderful for my office applications. Good product for home and office.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

Easy to configure for surround sound!4

So far the Denon AVAR-1513 is running as expected for a low budget item. It lacks many features that other high end receivers have, but allows a not-so-tech person to configure the surround sound. The manual lacks a lot of information. I had to call the Denon support for advice to make sure what I configured is ok. I like the seperation of the surround sound. I do not have a 3D TV so I can not comment.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

I was looking for a Dolby 5.1 unit to repace my old analog home theater. The three HDMI inputs (Blu-ray, Game and cable with one output was all that I needed. Sound quality is very good and set-up was not complicated. This is a great value unit.5 out of 5 found this review helpful.

Bought this to replace a 15 year old Sony. Hooked it and every time a loud action scene came on the receiver shut off. I returned it and and got the Denon Avr-1613 (the step up from this) which I have been very happy with, night and day sound form my old Sony.0 out of 5 found this review helpful.

Nice Receiver for HD system4

Purchased this to replace a unit that was on its last legs. I've had good luck in the past with Denon and this unit is no different. Easy to hook up, easy to set up and configure, and it sounds great. Multiple HDMI inputs give you flexibility when setting up multiple digital items. Worked great with my Dish Hopper system and the connected BluRay player. This is driving a secondary TV with a 3 channel speaker setup, so I'm not using the 5.1 surround capabilities of the unit. Good value for the price and does what I need it to do.11 out of 11 found this review helpful.

Overall a great valued receiver with still the awesome Denon sound. Set up was easy even without Audyssey Auto Cal. I honestly like the option of manual setup of my speakers personally however this being an option would also be better for beginners. My own gripe is the lack of using a different audio source with different video over HDMI. This would have been an excellent addition. Other than that a great buy for me so far.5 out of 8 found this review helpful.
