The Dukes of Hazzard: Road Pirates
Sporting narration and a theme song by country legend Waylon Jennings and starring Tom Wopat and John Schneider as Luke Duke and Bo Duke, The Dukes of Hazzard was a hit throughout its six-year run in the late '70s and early '80s. Also featuring Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke, the show showcased the ongoing adventures of the Duke brothers as they attempted to avoid the crooked local law enforcement and the sleazy Boss Hogg. Originally airing on October 19, 1979, Dukes of Hazzard: Road Pirates finds the "good ol' boys" and their pal, Cletus, trying to clear their names after being framed for stealing a truckload of TVs. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Arrest Jesse Duke
Jeff Altman makes his first appearance as Boss Hogg's nephew Hughie, not yet the shifty schemer he'd become in later episode, but here the relatively honest temporary sheriff of Hazzard County (regular sheriff Roscoe does not appear because series costar James Best was sitting the episode out, protesting against working conditions on the set). In his first official act, Hughie arrests Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle) on a carstripping charge, little realizing that the actual culprits are a gang of female crooks in league with his own Uncle Boss. Featuring among the shapely miscreants are twin actresses Randi Brough and Candi Brough, who decorated many a comedy and adventure series of the era. The original network broadcast of this episode was moved up from its intended airdate of January 18, 1980. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Witness for the Persecution
Much to his dismay, Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) must rely on the Dukes for protection when he is slated to testify against a racketeer in a Federal trial. With the blessings of FBI agent Pryor (R.G. Armstrong), Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle) offers to hide Boss from the racketeers' hired gunmen, who have arrived in Hazzard County disguised as Bible salesmen in order to shut Hogg's yap permanently. Meanwhile, Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best) basks in the glory of being totally in charge of Hazzard County for the first time since he turned crooked. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Dukes Meet Cale Yarborough
Veteran stock-car racer/designer and NASCAR champ Cale Yarborough appears as himself in this episode. The Duke boys (Tom Wopat, John Schneider) are thrilled when their idol Yarborough reveals his plans to test a new secret turbocharger in an upcoming race. Likewise thrilled, but for less savory reasons, is Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), who promptly arrests the Dukes for breaking parole so that he'll be able to conspire with the crooked Jethro brothers (Tom McFadden, William Watson) to steal the turbocharger without any interference. This is the episode in which the lucky viewers are treated to the sight of not one, not two, but THREE "General Lee"s. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Rustlers
Mel Tillis, who'd later show up as "himself" on Dukes of Hazzard, is here cast as horse-farm owner Burl Tolliver. Mr. Tolliver owns an extraordinarily fast stallion, which Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) plans to steal and enter in the "Mrs. J.D. Hogg Stake Race"--after framing Bo (John Schneider) and Duke (Tom Wopat) for the crime, of course. Unfortunately for all concerned, the prize horse has also attracted the attention of some professional rustlers who have a bad habit of killing people. Seen as Burl Tolliver's wife Sherri is Dorothy Collier, who later married series regular James Best (Roscoe P. Coltrane). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard Connection
Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) have no sooner delivered a car to demolition-derby Augie Detweiller (John Quade) than they are accused of operating a smuggling ring. Deducing that Detweiller is the real brains behind the smuggles, the boys sign up to race in the derby for investigate purposes--and thus target themselves for demolition of the permanent kind! Deputy Enos (Sonny Shroyer) delivers a terrific "death speech" in this episode, which features future Simon and Simon and Major Dad star Gerald McRaney in a supporting role. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Granny Annie
To the people of Hazzard County, Granny Annie Coggins (Lurene Tuttle) is merely a sweet little old lady who has achieved fame as a rustic artist. But Granny Annie happens to have another little pastime--namely, the counterfeiting of five-dollar bills. As Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) schemes to get his mitts on Annie's beautifully rendered counterfeit plates, a professional "funny-money" purveyor named Big Jim Downey (George Murdock) schemes to put the old lady out of business--and out of this world in the bargain. Mickey Jones appears as temporary mechanic B.B. Davenport, replacing his "cousin" Cooter (Ben Jones, who had gone on strike against the show because he didn't want to shave his beard for his role). Also, The Oak Ridge Boys perform "Old Time Lovin". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Ghost of General Lee
A pair of pool hustlers steal the "General Lee" while Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) are skinnydipping. Chasing after the "General", Sheriff Roscoe (James Best) sees the car crash into a local pond, and becomes convinced that the Duke boys have drowned. Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) takes advantage of this "tragedy" by claiming that Bo and Luke had stolen his watch before their untimely demise--all the while keeping the timepiece locked in his own safe so he can collect the insurance. Once the boys find out what Boss is up to, they decide to get even by "haunting" the billious Boss, using a few splashes of luminous paint to transform themselves and the "General" into phantoms! (Trivia note: this is series star John Schneider's favorite episode). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: People's Choice
Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) enthusiastically offer their support to T.C. Rogers, who is running against Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) as Hazzard County's Supervisory Administrator. The boys do this for two important reasons: They want to remove Boss as their probation officer, and the "T.C." stands for Thelma Clare (Pat Klous), who is a lot prettier and a whole lot more desirable than the redoubtable Mr. Hogg. Naturally, a down-and-dirty campaign ensues, with no one "down-er" and dirtier than Boss--who is ultimately foiled by, of all people, Sheriff Roscoe (James Best! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Gold Fever
A trio of Texas con artists, claiming to have $3,000,000 in gold bullion, store their treasure in Boss Hogg's bank. Boss (Sorrell Booke) immediately formulates a scheme to steal the gold and collect the insurance, little realizing that the bullion is fake and that he himself will be out the three million! Needless to say, it is up to Luke (Tom Wopat) and Bo (John Schneider) to simultaneously thwart and rescue the billious Boss. Originally slated to air on December 14, 1979, this episode was moved forward as replacement for another second-season installment, "Uncle Boss"--which ended up on the shelf until November of 1980. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Days of Shine and Roses
In the opening episode of The Dukes of Hazzard's second season, lifelong antagonists Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle) and Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) take a trip down Memory Lane while watching a scratchy old newsreel of their bootlegging days. Arguing over which of them was the better "ridge-runner", Boss and Jesse decide to solve their differences with an illegal, no-holds-barred grudge race. This puts both of the Good Ol' Boys in the gunsights of an elderly, embittered sheriff who has waited for years to wreak vengeance. With this episode, Sonny Shroyer becomes a regular in his familiair role of dumb-but-honest deputy Enos; also, the episode marks the moment in which corrupt Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane forevers forsakes his "cynical villain" status to become a live-action equivalent of Wile E. Coyote--literally so in the climactic chase sequence! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Meeting
Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) picks up a fast $10,000 by renting the Hazzard County Jail to mob kingpin Big Jack Bender (Paul Lambert), who intends to use the facilities for a secret Appalachin-style gangster conference. Noticing the amount of "artillery" in the cars parked around the jailhouse, Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) figure they'd better alert the authorities--providing they live long enough to do so. With this episode, Hogg's dimwitted nephew Cletus (Rick Hurst) is promoted to deputy in the absence of Enos Strate (series regular Sonny Shroyer had to bow out temporarily due to illness). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Officer Daisy Duke
With James Best still boycotting the series because of perceived hazardous working conditions, former Bewitched costar Dick Sargent appears in this episode as Grady Byrd, temporary replacement for Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane. When Luke Duke (Tom Wopat) inadvertently causes Daisy (Catherine Bach to lose her job at the Boars' Nest, Sheriff Byrd hires Daisy as a deputy sheriff. Unfortunately, the Duke boys are so determined to see that Daisy does a good job that they won't let her lift a finger on her own. Ultimately, however, Daisy proves her worth by chasing after a pair of escaped prisoners--and never mind that it was her fault that the prisoners escaped in the first place! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Duke of Duke
Future Falcon Crest costar Simon MacCorkindale appears in this episode as Gaylord Duke, London-born cousin of Hazzard County's Luke and Bo Duke (Tom Wopat, John Schneider). Arriving in America to claim some land he has inherited, Gaylord finds himself opposed by Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), who intends to auction off the land in order to collect back taxes. Unexpected complications ensue when Daisy (Catherine Bach) falls in love with the dashing Gaylord. Ernie W. Brown appears in this episode as temporary mechanic L.B. Davenport, cousin of the still-absent Cooter (series regular Ben Jones was boycotting the show, refusing to shave his beard as ordered by the producers). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Runaway
Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) champion the cause of runaway heiress Suzy Holmes (Susan Walden), who has stowed away in the boys' car to avoid the hired minions of her nasty millionaire father C.J. Holmes (Robert Alda). Hoping to elope with her boyfriend Fred Andrews (Edward Edwards), Suzy persuades the Dukes to help deliver her fiance across the county line--in effect asking our heroes to break their parole and risk arrest. Mr. Holmes strikes back at the Dukes by kidnapping Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle), while Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) also gets into the game, hoping that by returning Suzy to her daddy he'll be rewarded with one of the famous Holmes oil wells. This episode marks the final appearance of Daisy Duke's (Catherine Bach) famous yellow car--and the introduction of her even more famous white jeep "Dixie". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Treasure of Hazzard
Attractive history professor Laura Bardsley (Jeannie Wilson) arrives in Hazzard County in search of an authentic Civil War strongbox, said to contain a huge army payroll. Naturally, Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) is anxious to get his lunch-hooks on the strongbox himself--and so, unfortunately, are a pair of crooks who tend to settle arguments with bullets. The original TV Guide ads for this episode suggest that guest star Clifton James had permanently joined the cast in the role of Sheriff Lester Crabbe, but this might have been a strategy by the series' producers to lure James Best--still boycotting the show because of what he regarded as hazardous working conditions--back into his familiar role as Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Find Loretta Lynn
Country superstar Loretta Lynn appears as herself in this episode. Hazzard County is thrown into an uproar when Loretta is kidnapped by a trio of shabby amateur crooks (Henry Gibson, Dennis Burkley Rebecca Reynolds) who demand a ransom of $1136.15! Truth to tell, the kidnappers aren't all that villainous or menacing: they simply want to recoup the money that was cheated out of them by a fraudulent record company. To clear themselves of blame for the abduction, Luke (Tom Wopat) and Bo (John Schneider) set out to rescue Ms. Lynn and see that justice is served all around. Loretta Lynn sings "Y'all Come". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the Ridge Raiders
A group of old-time bootleggers called the Ridge Raiders regroup after forty years to prevent Boss Hogg from financially depleting a senior-citizens center in order to build a nudie bar called the "Play Pen." Level-headed Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle) advises the gun- and bomb-happy Ridge Raiders to fight Boss with the Law rather than with violence, but old habits die hard. James Hampton appears as temporary sheriff Buster Moon, the last in a long line of replacements for regular sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (actor James Best was still "sitting out" the series, protesting working conditions). This episode was written by Si Rose and directed by Hollingworth Morse, who had previously collaborated on the 1960s sitcom McHale's Navy. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Jude Emery
Bo (John Schneider) and Duke (Tom Wopat) join forces with Texas Ranger Jude Emery (John Shearin) to capture "Snake" Harmon (Sam Melville), an outlaw race driver who traffics in contraband critters. Pursuing their quarry into the dismal reaches of Yuchee Swamp, our heroes try to catch a Snake by thinking like a Snake--with fascinating results. Featured in the cast is former pro football player and future Hollywood stuntman Ben Davidson. This episode was intended as the pilot for a weekly spinoff series starring John Shearin, which alas never came to be. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Southern Comfurts
Miriam Byrd-Nethery, Edward Edwards and Lori Lethin guest star as the Comfurt family, distant cousins of Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle). Having recently struck it rich, the Comfurts lose their entire fortune--$250,000--when their car is stolen. It is up to the Dukes to locate the car before the thief locates the dough...and before Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) can get his hands on the cash. Intended as the pilot for an unsold spinoff series about the "Southern Comfurts", this is the final episode of The Dukes of Hazzard's second season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: R.I.P. Henry Flatt
The latest graft-ridden scheme hatched by Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) involves plowing up a veteran's cemetery in order to build a new highway. Unfortunately, this would reveal that the grave supposedly occupied by the late con artist Henry Flatt is empty--mainly because Flatt (played by Hal Smith, formerly town drunk Otis Campbell on The Andy Griffith Show) had faked his death a year before! Worried that his loved ones would suffer if he was proven to be alive, Flatt turns to the Dukes for help. This episode was directed by series regular Denver Pyle (Jesse Duke). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Follow That Still
Hoping to divest himself of his well-earned nickname, veteran moonshiner Hard Luck Jones (Fred Stuthman) steals a vintage armored personal carrier from Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), who'd been using the vehicle to transport illegal cigarettes. Jones intends to transform the APC into Hazzard County's first "mobile still", and to that end he hides the valuable relic on the Dukes' property--potentially giving Boss yet another excuse to throw the whole Duke clan into the hoosegow. This episode was originally scheduled to air on December 21, 1979. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Dukes of Hazzard: Mason Dixon's Girls
Sporting narration and a theme song by country legend Waylon Jennings and starring Tom Wopat and John Schneider as Luke Duke and Bo Duke, The Dukes of Hazzard was a hit throughout its six-year run in the late '70s and early '80s. Also featuring Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke, the show showcased the ongoing adventures of the Duke brothers as they attempted to avoid the crooked local law enforcement and the sleazy Boss Hogg. Originally airing on February 29, 1980, Dukes of Hazzard: Mason Dixon's Girls found the duke boys teaming up with a traveling private investigation team to bring down a dastardly group of drug smugglers. The episode was originally intended as a setup for a spin-off series featuring the continuing adventures of the three private-eyes, but the idea never came to fruition. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
