Posted by: ldyred from Pleasant Lake, MI on 05/29/2013It took me a week to figure out that KA and K bands are the cops and X band is something else but this thing works and is smart. It really does store things after you drive by it a few times to. I did notice coming around sharp hilly curves you don't get as much notice but, its still notice so I will take it. It has more features than I will ever use but I wanted the GPS capability.

Posted by: Larzzzz from North of Boston, MA on 05/18/2013Works like a charm. The mount seems a little flimsy, but it holds well. And aftera few weeks of driving, quiet. This detector learns when a signal real or fake when you drive your regular routes. When it makes noise now, I know something is around.
I also hate cords dangling so I bought the hard wire kit.

Posted by: nonickname4u from on 05/13/2013This detector lives up to it's reviews I read online. It's a great unit. I love how the codes are stored, and I dont get false alarms driving by stores now locally. If you're ready to step up from the 75-100 dollar range this is the one.

Posted by: DaMaestro from Lees Summit, MO on 04/12/2013Overall, I recommend purchase of this item, however I currently do not have an iPhone or android device. There are additional features if you use the app with those devices for live feedback on upcoming threats.

Best detector ever, if you can afford it.

Posted by: Justinus from Louisville,Ky. on 03/22/2013It only takes the Passport 9500IX one round trip of your commute to learn where the false signal transmitters are located. The next day all the door openers, burglar alarms etc. are gone and every signal is real.
The range of this thing is fantastic also. I have used radar detectors for over 30 years and this is the best ever.

Best detector on the market.

Posted by: from Indiana on 03/16/2013I bought this detector a few years ago, but refrained from reviewing it until now as a test of its longevity. I've owned other detectors prior to this one that were much cheaper, but for a reason.
I tried a Cobra first, since it was one of the cheapest brands available and could be purchased just about anywhere. Its range of detection was poor, and it died after just a few months of use. I got a Beltronics after that; the top model from the company at the time. Its range was a bit better, but like the Cobra before it, it didn't last very long. Just over a year after purchase, it stopped working completely. The Cobra was 100 USD, the Beltronics was 300 USD.
I read up the reviews on this one, as well as the well-known Valentine, both of which were pricey. However, while the Escort cost 100 USD more than the Valentine, I felt the features made it worth it. The range is much better (I've gotten alerts well over three miles in advance before passing the cop in question), it has much better around-the-corner and over-the-hill detection, and the GPS-assisted memory really helps get rid of false alerts. I also liked the design better. It doesn't stand out as much, and the blue text doesn't draw as much attention to it. Valentine's arrows are a gimmick, as it really doesn't matter WHERE the cop is.
One common misconception people have with radar detectors is that they can speed as much as they want and not have to worry, but people forget about POP and laser speed detection, both of which are instant-on. There is no advance warning for those. What I use this for is a reminder. I tend to drive 5-10 over the limit on the highways and interstates, so this gives me a warning to drop my speed when a cop is in the area. It also reminds me to check my speed in slower areas if I happen to drift a bit over the limit without realizing it.
That's what this device should be used for: a cautionary reminder to check your speed to avoid a costly ticket, not a device that allows you to drive as fast and recklessly as you like. Also, a note on legality concerns. Radar detectors are legal in non-commercial vehicles in all states except for Virginia, Washington, D.C., and on all military bases. They are also not allowed to be mounted to the front windshield in California or Minnesota, two states where it's illegal to have anything hanging from the rear view mirror due to claims of obstruction of vision.

Posted by: dmoney6969 from Columbus, Ohio on 02/09/2013I am David C. i live in Columbus, Ohio. I am a teen got my license last year and got a speeding ticket 1week later but got it thrown out. I saved up all my money for this escort 9500ix and got it in feb 2012. I love it. It tells where all redlight camras are and has great range, going around curves and hills. I have never got a ticket to this day and it saved me from over 100 tickets. If you dont want a ticket or false alerts and redlight camera info buy this detector if not buy a low grade one. hope this helps anybody
