Synopsis

Charging into combat on the battlefield, you find yourself face-to-decaying-face with hordes of undead warriors. Dismembered body parts fly this way and that, as bullets and arrows whiz past your ears. You return their fire with all of your might, but it seems to barely dent their massive numbers. In despair, you believe you've been left for dead. Suddenly, you hear the familiar war cries of your comrades in arms. Perfectly performing all of the tactics you taught them, your soldiers join your side, cutting down zombies left and right. Together, you will stand or fall — can you lead this noble army to ultimate victory?

Take command of a unique band of soldiers and guide them to glory on the battlefield in Fire Emblem: Awakening. In this brilliantly rendered fantasy adventure for the Nintendo 3DS, you have the power to turn the tides of battle in an epic war against a dark dragon. Your fire-breathing foe threatens to destroy the entire empire with help from his armies of the undead — but with your loyal crew of fighters, you just may be the one to stop him for good. Create your own customized soldier and join a massive cast of interesting characters who all have their own stories to tell. Heighten your power on the battlefield by strengthening the bonds between your troops and even enlisting a friend of your own. Plus, with StreetPass and SpotPass options, you can access exciting new items, characters and maps. The world depends on your leadership — this is your Awakening.

Best Turn Based Strategy Game This Year
5
Posted by: from Montgomery, AL on 05/10/2013If you like the previous Fire Emblems, or any of the many turn based strategy games this is a must have. It has amazing replay value and some of the most engaging tactical gameplay in a long while.

Fantastic FE game for newcomers and veterans alike
5
Posted by: from Bronx, NY on 05/07/2013This is a great role-playing game for the 3DS and a welcome addition to the Fire Emblem franchise. I was excited, yet weary, of starting up the game since it happened to be my first FE game, but it does a great job of accommodating those who are new to the series as well as experienced players. The different difficulty modes coupled with the new option to turn the series' signature perma-death feature on or off makes it easy to find a balance that's right for you. The story is very engrossing the first half of the game, and still holds up well during the second half. The gameplay is incredible and will definitely test your mettle if you're looking for a challenging strategy game. The graphics look great and continues to show the 3DS' potential. But the best thing about the game would be the amazing characters. I'm sure every player will be able to find characters for their team that they will grow to love. I can't recommend this game enough for any strategy rpg fan.

Intelligent Systems does it again!
5
Posted by: from Indianapolis, IN on 05/04/2013I've played every Fire Emblem released in the Americas since 2003, and this is easily my favorite. The graphics are top-notch, beating out even the GameCube's Path of Radiance and the Wii's Radiant Dawn. The gameplay is classic Fire Emblem and has not changed much over the years, but it's hard to improve on perfection. Especially if you play on classic mode (where units who die are gone forever), the difficulty level can be punishing. However, completing chapters on harder difficulties with all your units still alive is very rewarding. Speaking of characters, there is a large and colorful army you can recruit, and so many units that you will not use all of them during a single playthrough - tons of replayability. If you love strategy games or RPGs, this is definitely one to pick up.

Possibly the best in the series
5
Posted by: from California on 05/04/2013If you love the series, this game is great. There are a lot of added features such as wireless options, free and paid dlc, use of characters from every single past Fire Emblem game, and the ability to play casual or classic mode. You will get a lot of value due to the free spotpass dlc. It plays like every other Fire Emblem game which is great. The 3D is nice and there are a ton of characters to use. If you are new to the series, but a competent gamer, choosing hard difficulty on classic could frustrate you due to permanent death of the characters. You may be reloading the game quite often. Overall, if you have a 3DS, this is one game everyone should have. It is no mistake that this is one of the highest rated games for the system.
