Friends: The One With the Red Sweater
Friends co-star David Schwimmer (Ross) directed this episode, in which the father of Rachel's baby is finally identified -- or is he? Crucial to the plotline is a red sweater, left behind by the "mystery man." Joey (Matt LeBlanc) shows the sweater to Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), who, convinced that the mystery is solved, arranges an "accidental" meeting between Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and the sweater's owner. Meanwhile, Joey goes off on the wrong track when he thinks that it is Phoebe who is pregnant; an anxious Monica (Courteney Cox) considers breaking her promise to Chandler (Matthew Perry) about waiting to open their wedding presents; and Chandler and Ross try to cover up the fact that they've lost all the wedding pictures. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Rachel Tells...
Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) is on the verge of telling Ross (David Schwimmer) that he's the father of her baby (and it's about time -- he's the only one at this point who doesn't know!) Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica (Courteney Cox) are on the verge of taking their honeymoon. And Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) are on the verge of getting into big trouble with the law -- and all because they want to take a peek at the newlyweds' apartment. A subplot involving a "bumped" couple of airline passengers had to be refilmed due to references that would have been deemed inappropriate in the light of 9/11. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Video Tape
Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) have quite a story to tell about the fun couple they met during the trip back from their honeymoon. They also have the phone number of their new "friends"...or do they? Elsewhere, Ross (David Schwimmer) has indisputable proof that he is the father of Rachel's baby -- and it's all on videotape. And perhaps, at last, will come the answer to a burning question: did Ross hit on Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) or was it the other way around? ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One After "I Do"
Season eight of Friends begins just after the wedding of Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Courteney Cox). Though this neatly ties up a loose plotline from season seven, there's another strand still dangling, namely: is Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) pregnant? A comedy of errors results in the misapprehension that virtually every one of the female "Friends" is pregnant except Rachel -- and there's quite a scramble to determine the identity of the father (or fathers). In other developments, Chandler's too-tight shoes cause him trouble during his first dance with Monica; Joey (Matt LeBlanc) tries to use his speech as best man as an audition for a big Broadway role; and Ross (David Schwimmer) has an interesting interlude with one of Monica's co-workers. Originally slated to air on September 20, 2001, this episode was moved back to September 27 due to ongoing network coverage of the 9/11 tragedy; indeed, the episode is "Dedicated to the People of New York City." (Note: Christina Pickles' appearance as Monica's mother is considerably larger in the DVD version than in the original broadcast version, in which her lines, and her billing, were cut.) ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Rumor
Monica (Courteney Cox) invites her high-school friend Will for Thanksgiving dinner at the Bing household. A former "fattie," Monica remembers Will as being just as rotund as she'd been back in the day. What she doesn't remember -- and in fact she never knew -- was that back in school, Will and Ross (David Schwimmer) were charter members of the "We Hate Rachel" club, their anger having been stoked by an ugly rumor. Elsewhere, Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) figure out a clever ploy to avoid helping out in the kitchen during dinner preparations, while Joey (Matt LeBlanc) takes pride in "handling" the turkey all by himself. Movie star Brad Pitt -- husband of Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston (Rachel) -- makes an unbilled (but well-publicized) guest appearance as Will. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Halloween Party
A Halloween costume party threatens to degenerate into a "battle of the superheroines" between Monica (Courteney Cox) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow). In other developments, Phoebe is introduced to Eric (Sean Penn), the fiancé of her twin sister Ursula (also played by Lisa Kudrow) -- only to find out that Ursula has told a pack of lies about herself to Eric. Ross (David Schwimmer) enters into an arm-wrestling match to impress his girlfriend, Mona (Bonnie Somerville). And Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) comes up with a costly solution when she runs out of trick-or-treat candy. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With Rachel's Date
Ross (David Schwimmer) frets when Joey (Matt LeBlanc) sets up a date between his soap opera co-star Cash (Johnny Messner) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) considers breaking up with her new boyfriend, who works as a chef at Monica's restaurant -- on the same day that Monica (Courteney Cox) intends to fire the poor fellow. And a case of long-distance mistaken identity causes Chandler (Matthew Perry) to sabotage a co-worker's promotion. This episode is dedicated to the memory of Richard L. Cox Sr., the father of series regular Courteney Cox. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Stain
Having been told the truth about his fiancée, Ursula (Lisa Kudrow), heartbroken Eric (Sean Penn) wants to date Ursula's twin sister, Phoebe (also Lisa Kudrow). The hitch: Eric may be looking at Phoebe, but he still sees Ursula. Meanwhile, Ross' (David Schwimmer) efforts to secure an apartment for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) are complicated when elderly tenant Mrs. Verhoeven (Dale Raoul) stubbornly refuses to die on schedule. And Monica (Courteney Cox) thinks that Chandler's (Matthew Perry) new maid, Brenda (Arden Myrin), is a thief when her stained jeans turn up missing. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With Monica's Boots
Just to prove to Chandler (Matthew Perry) that she isn't irresponsible with her money, Monica (Courteney Cox) intends to wear her costly new black boots night and day -- even though her feet are in agony. Meanwhile, Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) hopes to get tickets to a sold-out Sting concert by sucking up to Ross' (David Schwimmer) young son, Ben (Cole Sprouse), who attends school with Sting's son. And Joey (Matt LeBlanc) is outraged when he finds out his kid sister Dina (Marla Sokoloff) is pregnant. Trudie Styler, Sting's real-life wife, appears as herself. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With Ross's Step Forward
When Mona (Bonnie Somerville) wants Ross (David Schwimmer) to pose with her for a cutesy Christmas card, he panics, convinced that she has an all-too-permanent relationship on her mind. Elsewhere, the hormonal side effects of Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) pregnancy result in a surprise for Joey (Matt LeBlanc). And Chandler's divorce-bound boss, thinking that Chandler (Matthew Perry) is on the outs with Monica (Courteney Cox), arranges a "relaxing" evening out -- at a strip club. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Stripper
Chandler (Matthew Perry) is dismayed to learn that Monica's bachelorette party featured a male stripper. To make amends, Monica (Courteney Cox) hires a female stripper for Chandler's belated bachelor bash -- but this stripper turns out to be a somewhat different variety of "working girl." Meanwhile, Rachel's belligerent dad (Ron Leibman) is surprisingly cool about his daughter's pregnancy. He is less cool about the fact that Rachel and Ross (David Schwimmer) have no intention of getting married -- and he's red hot when he finds Ross canoodling with Mona (Bonnie Somerville). ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Chandler Takes a Bath
At Monica's (Courteney Cox) suggestion, an uptight Chandler (Matthew Perry) tries to relax with a scented bubble bath -- and once he's in the tub, he refuses to get out. In other developments, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) refuses to admit that his feelings for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) have gone way beyond friendship -- a situation that leads Monica to believe that Joey is actually in love with Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow). And while sifting through some rather unusual names for their baby, Rachel and Ross (David Schwimmer) debate whether they should find out if the infant is a boy or a girl, or save the surprise until the last moment. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One with the Cooking Class
Monica is stung when the food critic for the New York Post turns thumbs-down on her restaurant. To improve her culinary skills, Monica sneaks into a cooking class conducted by the same critic -- with a reluctant Joey (Matt LeBlanc) in tow. Elsewhere, Ross (David Schwimmer) goes shopping at a baby store, an excursion that brings out the worst in Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) (and leads to a bizarre "puppet show"), and Chandler (Matthew Perry) preps for a job interview with the "help" of Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow). ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Joey Dates Rachel
To practice his dating technique, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) takes Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) to dinner -- but this little game of "let's pretend" might turn into something real. Elsewhere, Ross (David Schwimmer) is given a chance to take over for the ailing teacher of a college honors class -- if only he can get to the classroom on time. And a Ms. Pacman arcade game, presented by Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) as a wedding present for Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Matthew Perry), becomes a source of embarrassment when Ross' son, Ben (Cole Sprouse), wants to play. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Joey Tells Rachel
Joey (Matt LeBlanc) finally tells Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) that he's falling in love with her. Unfortunately, Rachel doesn't take him seriously -- and that's not the worst of it. Back at the Central Perk, Ross (David Schwimmer) and Gunther (James Michael Tyler) ruminate over Joey's ardor. And Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) is currently dating the man who once meant more to Monica (Courteney Cox) than anyone else in the world -- or at least that's what Phoebe tells a nonplussed Chandler (Matthew Perry). ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Tea Leaves
Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) invents a "crisis" so that Joey (Matt LeBlanc) will stop avoiding her -- and it's a pip. Consulting the tea leaves, Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) learns that she will meet the man of her dreams (James LeGros) -- but the leaves fail to warn her that this is not necessarily a good thing (a man who writes erotic novels for children?!) And Ross (David Schwimmer) picks the wrong time to retrieve his favorite shirt from Mona's (Bonnie Somerville) apartment. Alec Baldwin makes the first of two guest appearances as Parker. ~ All Movie Guide

    Friends: The One in Massepequa
Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) invites her overly "enthusiastic" and upbeat new boyfriend, Parker (Alec Baldwin), to the 35th anniversary party for Jack and Judy Geller (Elliott Gould, Christina Pickles), the parents of Ross (David Schwimmer) and Monica (Courteney Cox). Hoping to one-up Ross, whose toasts to his folks at previous parties have reduced the guests to tears, Monica comes up with a tribute guaranteed to open the floodgates. But it is Ross and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) who feel like crying when they learn that the Gellers have been lying about the expectant couple's relationship. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Baby Shower
A baby shower thrown by Monica (Courteney Cox) causes Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) to wonder if she's truly prepared for motherhood. Not helping matters at all is the arrival of Rachel's imperious mother, Sandra (Marlo Thomas) -- whom Monica forgot to invite to the shower. Meanwhile, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) prepares to audition for a job as host of a TV game show ("This is the best game ever!"), with the progressively unenthusiastic assistance of Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Ross (David Schwimmer). ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Rachel Has a Baby, Part 2
In this conclusion of a two-part story (originally telecast along with "Part One" as a single hour-long special), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) gives birth to a healthy baby girl after 21 hours' labor. The engagement ring that Rachel's mom (Christina Pickles) gave to Ross (David Schwimmer) in hopes that he would propose to her daughter ends up in other hands. Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) uses subterfuge to meet her "dream man" (another hospital patient). And in the midst of all the excitement, an aroused Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) sneak off to a hospital closet for some "quality time." This final episode of Friends' eighth season concludes as Joey (Matt LeBlanc) pops the question that fans of the series have been waiting for all year. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Rachel Has a Baby, Part 1
The water has broken, and Rachel's baby will arrive at any minute. As Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) moans over the fact that her hospital room may not be entirely private (if indeed a room opens up on time!), her mother, Mrs. Geller (Christina Pickles), makes a last-minute plea to Ross (David Schwimmer) -- marry the girl! Meanwhile, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) continues to pine for Rachel, and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) has some palpitations of her own when she meets a handsome stranger. This episode originally aired as the first half of an hour-long special, but has since been released separately in syndication. (Note: Doug Looper's role as Grant was cut from the broadcast version but restored on DVD.) ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Secret Closet
Chandler (Matthew Perry) is determined to uncover the secrets that lie behind the door of Monica's mysterious -- and securely locked -- bathroom closet. Monica (Courteney Cox) reacts in a disturbingly sensuous manner when Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) gives her a massage. And some stomach pains lead to a quick trip to the hospital for the pregnant Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) -- and a startling self-discovery for Joey (Matt LeBlanc). ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One With the Birthing Video
Despite the "initiative" of sexy lingerie, Valentine's Day is messed up for Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) when they watch the graphic videotape of Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) in labor. Mona (Bonnie Somerville) dumps Ross (David Schwimmer) when she finds out he is living with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). Joey (Matt LeBlanc) makes a startling (but to the audience, not entirely unexpected) revelation. And "the world's happiest dog" does not necessarily spread that happiness to the people who need it most. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One Where Rachel is Late
The pregnant Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) due date arrives -- then passes without incident. As Monica (Courteney Cox) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) place bets as to when the baby will show up, Rachel resorts to an unorthodox (and very spicy!) method to speed things along. Elsewhere Joey's WWI movie is set for a Memorial Day release ("I'm in THX! I'm unsuitable for children!"). Joey (Matt LeBlanc) invites Chandler (Matthew Perry) to the premiere -- a gesture he has cause to regret. ~ All Movie Guide

Friends: The One with Joey's Interview
Recalling the disastrous results the last time he was interviewed by Soap Opera Digest, a self-conscious Joey (Matt LeBlanc) "crams" for an upcoming interview with the same magazine. He even invites his friends to attend the inquisition for moral support, and to keep him from inserting foot in mouth again. Despite all his precautions, Joey characteristically stumbles and bumbles while recalling his various romantic misadventures -- all lavishly "illustrated" with clips from earlier Friends episodes. ~ All Movie Guide
