Door sweats and drips onto the carpet
1
Posted by: DustyDawggg from Atlanta GA on 06/14/2013We did not know that it was a refrigerator/freezer when we bought it. There is not enough insulation in the door to prevent condensation on the door and it drips onto the carpet. The side walls are heat ed, so no sweating there. Went to the store to return it and they said I was over Best Buy's 15 day return policy. I did not buy an extended warranty so Best Buy can not/ will not do anything to help me! I told them that it will be my LAST Best Buy purchase!! This freezer is going to make my electric bill go sky high!!

Posted by: GarageFridge from Daytona Beach, FL on 05/23/2013I am using it as a fridge for the summer and if I decide later I want to use it as a deep freeze it is an easy switch. Press a button and it will switch from fridge to freezer. As long as you don't use both it is a great buy.

Works great

Posted by: dpaulw from Brandon, SD on 05/17/2013We bought this fridge to replace a very old one that we were using for drinks - pop, beer, wine, water, etc. This one is much more energy efficient and it is set up better for what we do with it. I love having the whole unit dedicated as a refrigerator. We have a separate freezer.

Wonderful freezerless fridge

Posted by: momof2soldiers from Minneapolis, MN on 03/03/2013Love the space of having an entire fridge, wonderful for large families. Also like the option of it being convertible to a freezer if we ever needed that option.

Like it so much I bought a second
5
Posted by: Nixxle from on 01/29/2013I purchased one of these over a year ago to serve as a freezer. We shop once every three months, and we were bungee cording the top freezer of our little normal fridge to keep it shut.
This was, as you could guess, somewhat distressing, as all of the carefully fitted food would fall out every time someone opened the freezer and have to be carefully fitted back in, or people just avoided opening the freezer and snacked on chips, which defeated the point of frozen meals.
We purchased this particular model because it is convertible, and I figured if we ever moved to a place without a fridge, at least we would be covered.
The inner design is more perfect for a fridge than a freezer, but it works perfectly well as a freezer too. We can (and have) stuff pizza boxes and giant halloween candy bowls with dough inside. When we shop, we can fit all of our frozen goods into the freezer, if planned with thought, and most of our frozen goods in the freezer without planning (usually done by my kids or husband). That said, a normal family that does not shop for a quarter of the year, should be able to fit all of their freezer food in just fine with room to spare and not a thought to how things will fit.
When I initially read the reviews before I bought, I read that it was noisy and hot. It does have a hum that kicks in, but I barely notice it. I plan on getting a second to use as a fridge (I'm tired of jengaing all the fridge foods in, just to find something rotted because it was under a half a foot of other food, and no one moved the food to look), so it is obviously not loud enough that I find it bothersome. I barely notice it.
It is large, so if you aren't looking to stuff a body in it, you might need a smaller model, but if you need lots of space, it delivers excellently.
I gave five stars because it suits my needs perfectly.
Here are some caveats:
I checked "no hard to reach spots" but truthfully, the only design that's going to meet this criteria is something shallow and torso level. Which obviously defeats the purpose of having a giant freezer you can fit that lion you illegally hunted after it escaped from that farm in Ohio. Anything with ample space, you will have to reach and bend at some point. That said, there is more than enough space between shelves that you can stack lots of food, still see it, and have clearance to reach without cursing. Thus by my definition, no hard to reach spots.
I only gave it a four on features because its not feature rich, nor do I want it to be. I don't want an ice maker, or little dwarfs that neatly stack everything. I just wanted lots of room, and ability to freeze. I was going to give it a three in this department as a denotation that you aren't getting R2D2. Still, it does have awesome shelving, a tight seal, and the ability to convert to a fridge, so I figured these were important features and bumped it up one. It doesn't have a water dispenser but I don't have the pipes to hook it up and I don't like cold water anyway.
The only feature that could make this better is if it had a back up battery to protect the food fr 12 hours if the power goes out and a timer to let you know its been tripped. I had a friend who swears her fridge/freezer does this.
The seal is very, very strong. Sometimes, you can't open it by the handle, you have to put your hand at the top to help break the seal.
If there is a problem where it doesn't seal and the door is ajar, you will have many non-frozen foods. Make sure it seals.
If you spill water, juice or condensate on the shelves, it will be a pain in the butt to clean off. Because it freezes that good.
If puts off a ton of heat on the exterior. Not enough for a human being like myself to feel it, but enough that if you don't leave a foot and a half to two feet of space between it and your refrigerator or other freezer, then it will over power the smaller appliance, which just won't work.
My well meaning husband removed the kitchen flotsam I had in the space after I read somewhere to provide a certain amount of space between, and pushed the two together. The fridge quit keeping food cold after just a few days and became a useless appliance. It is a smaller cheaper model, but be forewarned. When they say leave space, they mean leave space. After I properly berated him, as is my wifely duty, he cracked it, an inch, then an inch more at my prodding (apparently not registering the fact that nothing in the fridge was cold--he preferred to believe the fridge was broken of its own accord) until it was back at the appropriate spacing. At which point, the refrigerator mysteriously started keeping food cold again. Trust me, as he didn't, it was this freezer.
I love this freezer. I would replace my husband with it, if it were legal in this state. I have NO experience with it as a refrigerator, and have never tried to convert it. The new one of the same model I ordered will arrive next week, and I will install it as a fridge. Then we shall see if it can stand up in the shadow of its alternate universe freezer counterpart. I am particularly excited that it will, because every time I open the freezer, I think, gosh this is designed just like a fridge unit. I wish I could use that crisper for vegetables without freezing them into crystalline oblivion.

Very well designed unit

Posted by: HVACtech from Salado, TX on 01/20/2013This is a fairly low cost unit that allows the choice of using it as a refrigerator or as a freezer. Self defrosting, energy star and very well designed storage on door and shelving. My unit is used next to an upright freezer so I have lots of space for food storage.

Excellent Refrigerator since 2009
5
Posted by: KCount from Buffalo, NY on 01/01/2013We purchased this upright unit back in 2009. After researching many reviews off of other sites, I decided to go with this uncommon upright unit. Several reviews off of other sites claim that the refrigerator operation fails after several months. I purchased a thermometer to keep inside to be sure and we have not noticed any issues with using the refrigerator feature at all. We have zero complaints, we have not noticed any issues with it warming up at all.
We like that we can fit in large items such as cake trays or party pizza trays. We also can fit gallon jugs of milk in the bottom door tray. The height is only approximately 5'5", so my wife likes it that she can store bake-ware and smaller, seldom used appliances on top of it with ease.
We have not used this as an upright freezer, so I cannot comment on those capabilities although I do see that I can convert it simply by pressing a button.
The door can be changed to open to the right or to the left.
We like this model a lot better than our previous side by side unit, which failed shortly after 2.5 years of purchasing.
There are no capabilities for an in door ice maker or water dispenser because it can be used as an entire freezer as well.
It is not too noisy and when the motor does kick on, it does not bother us at all. This unit has so far survived the constant abuse of 3 toddlers, so it is fairly rugged and durable!
