GUTTERFLY is heavy on concept--something generally lacking in hip-hop. Framed as a Blaxploitation film, the album takes listeners around "Razorblade City" through the eyes of two protagonists--Sleepy Floyd and Bumpy Johnson. The pair's soul/funk-based production, intelligent wordplay, and sheer inventiveness make GUTTERFLY essential for anyone interested in innovative hip-hop. Camp Lo, Smif-N-Wessun, Digable Planets, Dead Prez, Fishbone, Vernon Reid, and George Clinton make guest appearances.
