Good basic laptop

Posted by: from Los Angeles, CA on 01/16/2013OK so far, Ive only used for basic email and photo downloads and storage. Have mostly used plug only when at home, so I don't have much to comment regarding battery life. The main problem is that quite often, when typing, the cursor will automatically jump back to some previous position, usually a line or a paragraph back, and before you know it, it selects the entire line or paragraph, and if you don't watch what's going on, it will delete it. I've tried to figure out if it's the sensitivity of the touch pad or something else, but haven't been able to pin it down. It's annoying and troublesome, and can cause wasted time trying to re-type text. Position of the touch pad is a bit too far to the left, even though it's centered on the space bar. Keyboard keys are chiclets type, easy to use once you get used to the spacing between them, but still not as ergonomic as my old Toshiba laptop which had a more flush, smooth arrangement. Fan sometimes comes on and stays on for extended periods, and can be a bit noisy, but no overheating issues so far. Speakers don't provide the best sound - again, my old Toshiba had Harman-Kardon speakers that were pretty good.

Good computer for basic use.

Posted by: from lawrence, ks on 12/12/2012Good computer. The only glitch I've experienced was when the keyboard locked up. I just removed the battery and restarted, the computer worked like new again. Other than that, it's everything I need in a computer.

Great small laptop

Posted by: from Brooksville, FL on 12/08/2012I love my smaller laptop; still getting accustomed to Window 8. I previously used Vista. I didn't realize this computer didn't have a DVD/CD player. This size would be good for a beginner or student.

Perfect machine!

Posted by: from Brooklyn, NY on 12/07/2012My previous HP Pavilion fried and needed the laptop to check my work emails, internet and play games from time to time. I went to my local BestBuy to buy myself a laptop for $400-$450 price. I decided to grab the only one available for the price of $400. I've been using HP for few years now and love everything about HP's hardware compatibilities. When I got home, I opened up a box and (oh my God!) it's very very thin and light! I turned it on, passed the system registration of Windows 8 and started working. Everything is very very smooth. I kind of felt that there's something wrong with it but then I realized that I doesn't have a DVD drive. Thanks, I have my own external drive just in case. And now everything works perfect, even heavy computer games such as Assassin's Creed, Need For Speed and Heroes Of Might And Magic. Thanks, HP and BestBuy! Totally recommended!

Great deal for $399
5
Posted by: from Long Island, NY on 12/07/2012I'm a power user, former IT guy and just basically a gadget guy. I needed a light, cheap, throw around and didn't want to spend 700 to a grand for a true Ultra Book. This notebook has fit the bill perfectly. It is light, small and not too fragile. It has lasted a month now in the living room and in my backpack and it seems to have enough toughness to last. It has plenty of power for what 99 percent of us do 99 percent of the time. Only negative at all is that the keyboard and trackpad don't feel as nice as our $1,200 MacBook or a $800 dollar Ultra Book. That said the keyboard and track pad work great. To sum up this is a great deal at the price point. For $399 you can't go wrong.

Nice laptop for basic business applications.

Posted by: from East Stroudsburg, PA on 12/07/2012For the general internet surfing, email, Microsoft word, excel and office, this PC will more than cover your business or recreational needs. The fit and finish is average. Plastic components means delicate handling as the weight is light where one must be careful transporting the laptop outside the workplace or home. Sound quality is average. Overall, it rates 4 stars as you get what you pay for. Keep expectations in check for the price point of this unit. Great for college bound students and light business applications. No gamers for this sleek-book.

Outstanding value

Posted by: from Fairfax, VA on 12/07/2012For the price you can't get a better computer. The HP Sleekbook at 4 pounds is ideal for traveling or carrying from room to room. It's easy to hook up an external DVD drive when needed. Appears well made, starts up quickly and it's speed is more than adequate for day to day use. Battery live is somewhat short and the touchpad is somewhat sluggish. But overall it is an outstanding computer for the price.
