Hauppauge - HD Personal Video Recorder (43 out of 49)
Works great with WMC and Comcast Tuner
5
Posted by: from Merced, Ca on 05/10/2013Works good just had to read a lot of reviews to Channel Change and WMC (Windows Media Center). hdpvr_1.5.7.0 is the driver set needed for Win7. Getting the Guide to work in WMC was a little confusing but works great now. Records and saves programs... Used MCEBuddy 2.3.12 64bit to remove ads in the TV program.

PVR Compatible WIN 7 MCE - Recordings Galore
4
Posted by: from Atlanta, GA on 02/14/2013I have used this so much that it is totally worth the price. I probably have 600 GB of recorded content. As I mentioned, in Windows media Center it reads as a Digital Cable card, so all my Comcast HD channels are listed and I can set recordings just like a DVR from Big Cable. I definitely would recommend this product, it is the best device that I have and I have tried a lot. I have my powerful PC at my desk accross the room and run 20 foot USB to my HD Cable media / PS3 I can start recording a show with the Media Extreme program and immediately open the file as a stream over the network with VLC on another Win 7 PC. Same with Windows Media Center Recordings. Enjoy!

Can record off-air, too
5
Posted by: from Framingham, MA on 10/02/2012The RGB (YPrPb) inputs allow recording off-the-air ATSC broadcasts at up to 1080i. To do this, you need a tuner box with RGB outputs, such as one of the boxes made by ChannelMaster, starting at around $130. It also has Composite and S-Video inputs, useful for copying VHS tapes. The included editing software does not allow frame-accurate editing, but otherwise works pretty well. The plastic box barely gets warm to the touch. Because it has built-in hardware encoding, I can record broadcast TV at 1080i while playing Batman Arkham City! Even if the game locks up (which it occasionally does even without any TV recording), the recording continues. PC: Intel Core-2 2.4GHz, 4GB Ram, NVidia GTX260 video card

Great for recording off DVR/TV
4
Posted by: from on 09/25/2012My purpose in buying this was to be able to save my DVR recordings into my computer, and this fulfills that purpose. A few comments: 1) Be aware of the minimum system requirements. My computer just fulfills the minimum and the recording software does use up a lot of the memory. 2) The installation is fairly straightforward, not sure about some of the issues other reviewers wrote about. 3) I have not used the TV scheduler software that comes with it, so I can't comment about it. 4) Be aware that the Media Converter 4 software that comes bundled with this has an issue with files recorded with the AC3 audio codec (basically the output video has no sound after converting), which is one of the options for audio when you record the video. Make sure you change the audio settings to record with the AAC codec.

Take your time during setup....
4
Posted by: from Michigan on 08/24/2012My system: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 6GB RAM, Windows 7 HP, Radeon 4850 512MB Video card. Let me get to a few important points first. The unit feels cheap. Yes it gets warm when recording but has not locked up on me DURING a recording. I have recorded 6 times so far and never a problem after keeping in mind the following comments below. You must have the USB connected and the power on to the unit BEFORE you install the drivers. My DVD drive had trouble reading the install CD but after a few times, it installed the software. Yes the software is sluggish and will lock up when setting up a recording IF you try to click too many times. Make sure you give it a few seconds to respond to your mouse input after each click. For those that are getting choppy recordings, try turning OFF the hardware acceleration option located in the lower left part of the screen in the recording software. This solved all my recording issues. So far, so good but I will use the heck out of it for the 60 day return period to make sure it doesn't break on me. I will be using it daily. In conclusion I feel the price is a bit high but it is the best option in this price range for my needs. Only time will tell if it holds up for more than a few months. If you are tech savvy you shouldn't have an issue using this product properly. If not, you may want to enlist a family member or friend to get it setup for you the first time.

Excellent HD Video Recorder
5
Posted by: from Belleville, MI on 07/11/2012This device has excellent video quality and uses a hardware MPEG4 encoder to record video files to your computer's hard drive. With DVBLink software, you can use it to do HD recordings off of Cable and Satellite set-top boxes. It is a little complicated to get setup and running correctly (took me 2 tries before I had it up and running), but it was well worth the effort!

Great alternative from TiVo or Paid DVR subscripti
5
Posted by: from Salem, MA on 06/16/2012The Hauppauge PVR is a great device! Since the days of VCR have gone and past, recording from your cable / sat tv have been difficult to do without subscribing to a recording service (eg. TiVo, Comcast DVR, etc). Now, thanks to Hauppauge, the power is put back into the hands of the consumer viewer. The device is easy to set up and I love the accompanied software. The purchase makes sense if you already pay to watch tv, but don't feel that you should have to pay to record it too.
