    Good deal

Posted by: from California on 04/22/2013Overall is a good buy, for use on normal or simple set ups. I just wish it was a little small (hight wise) to fit on most TV cabinets. Also I wish it had digital capabilities, with that it would make it a great buy.

    Exceeds my expectations

Posted by: from Mt Juliet, TN on 04/19/2013I'd resisted buying a receiver in the past given the prices they were getting. This unit gives me more than I need and the price is 1/3 of the others.

    Powering Up Issues
    1
Posted by: from Marietta, GA on 04/14/2013I purchased this receiver to have music on our patio and in our backyard. I chose this one because it was inexpensive and had plenty of power to drive the speakers we had installed. I wanted an iPod input which this unit didn't have but using RCA jacks could be accomplished. I never made it that far. The first day I installed it the unit worked fine. I found the remote to be a bit cumbersome but once the unit was set up worked fine. The second day I turned on the unit it would work for anywhere from 5 seconds to two minutes and suddenly turn off. I contacted Insignia's customer service and they gave me a fix by turning the unit off, unplugging and holding in the power button for 30 seconds which worked. The third day the unit would not power on...period. The unit had power because the indicator light was illuminated. I contacted customer service again and went through the fix process again, after several attempts to remedy the problem customer service suggested returning the unit to the store for the Geek Squad to troubleshoot. Not wanting to have to repeat this routine I opted to ask for a refund which was cheerfully given and I purchased the slightly more expensive Sony unit which had an iPod interface and have been happy ever since.

    Surprisingly good for the price!

Posted by: from Mandeville, LA on 04/07/2013This receiver is surprisingly good for the sale price of less than $100. Connect a good set of speakers to this receiver and it will surprise you on how well the amp works. I connected a set of Definitive Technology BP7006 speakers and found the sound to be very good. I also use a Grace SOLO Internet radio with very good results. I use this receiver in a small home office and it works well for this purpose. The 200W rating means 100W per channel. Whether it can actually make 50W continuous is debatable - most receivers overstate their power output. I did crank it up quite loud and the receiver did shut down, so it does have its limits. No problem, the receiver was turned on and continues to work well. The FM receiver is not particularly sensitive compared a typical tabletop radio I am about 30 miles away from most stations, so my location is a good challenge for a radio. It has a built in squelch circuit which sometimes causes a station to cut out. I found an amplified VHF/FM antenna worked best and better than the wire supplied with the receiver. I didn't try the AM yet as I wouldn't listen to AM too much on this particular radio. I will add the AM antenna and a turntable in due time. While this receiver is no Harman Kardon 3490, which costs considerably more, it is a solid unit that provides good performance for a low price. It is a great starter receiver, a good small office or garage/workshop receiver, or a good low cost replacement for an older failed receiver.
