Posted by: rikflix from Buffalo on 03/11/2013This Speaker is perfect for what I wanted. The phone sits in the plug with my case on it w/ room to spare. I plugged it into the back using my usb and found I prefer it that way. There are 3 ways to plug the phone into the speaker, only thing I'd like to see in the future would be a Wi-Fi connection.
This Speaker sounds AWSOME! loud and crisp

Will Not work as an Alarm Clock.

Posted by: martin824 from on 01/08/2013Stupid EU regulations require devices to shut off automatically if they aren't being used - if Onbeat doesn't receive audio signal for 10 minutes it goes into standby mode (even though the click app is running). It doesn't wake automatically. Bottom line is your alarm won't sound in the morning. Minus this issue it's overpriced but solid. Considering this issue it's worthless to me. Returning tomorrow. Yet another reason to reject big government. I only regret that I couldn't give less stars. :)

Charges iPhone 5 & good sound but nothing else

Posted by: caraudiorookie2010 from Bay Area, CA on 01/04/2013I bought this speaker dock so that I could listen to a Hawaiian radio station using an app on my iPhone while also charging the phone. This JBL onbeat micro speaker does exactly that, but only for the first 10 minutes or so. After that, the sound cuts off or rather the system shuts off. I need to hit the power button on the speaker to get the sound back on. While this is annoying, I do sit right next to it so its not much of an inconvenience. But for the price I paid for it and with technology the way it is, I would think that something as simple as keeping the sound on of the sound dock while it is getting feed from an external source would be automatic. The sound is great though (minus any bass tones) for such a small unit, it fills my little office with sound no problem. Very easy to use and set-up with only a "power" & "volume" control buttons as well as a USB, AUX and 120vac inputs.

Great entry level dock / speaker

Posted by: SeanStL from St. Louis on 01/03/2013The customer service rep at Best Buy said they did not have any speakers that docked the new iPhone 5, yet I found this one in the over stock section (strange, huh?) I bought it since it was the only one they had as of January 2013. It sounds better than the Sony one I had for my iPhone 3 (The one with the handle at the top that goes for about $79.) I think it sounds great for what I paid, and better than many of the blutooth ones that are much more expensive.
My biggest complaint is that I have to take my phone out of it's case to dock it. This is kind of a pain and my case is VERY slim and open at the bottom. I can't imagine there is another case where this would not be a problem. I'm still trying to decide if I'll return it and buy the lightning adapter for the Sony since the cost will be equivalent at that point. This is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars.
Some minor complaints are that the volume changes the volume on the phone, but very slowly. Also, there are not buttons to go forward and backward through songs, which my other speakers had.

Horrible Features

Posted by: Arnold30311 from Illinois on 12/26/2012I bought this product to replace an older docking station when I upgraded to an iPhone5. I use the speaker dock on my night stand as a charger, alarm, and ambient noise producer. This product’s auto shutoff or stand-by feature does not recognized sound from apps as audio and will shuts off after 10 minutes on AC or 5 minutes on battery. If you plan on using this as an alarm it will not work! Unsure why it does not recognized sound from apps as audio output. This is a major design flaw that’s a feature IMO. I will be returning this product.

Posted by: Ksix from on 12/16/2012Awesome! Sound is surprisingly full and powerful for such a small device. Also doesnt feel cheap or like its going to break Easily. Only complaint is that phone won't fit with a case on. I have one of those thin ones too. Slipping it off to put on base isn't a problem, just a minor inconvenience. Overall it's a great item.
