Posted by: WaterfowlerWidowmaker from Canton, GA on 03/29/2013I bought this speaker for the bluetooth connectivity. Needless to say, it will not stay connected. Connection times vary each time from 15 minutes to 3 hours, but it always disconnects. You can dock it, and play your music forever, but if I wanted it for that, I would have bought a cheaper one.

Posted by: fmgh from on 02/16/2013I went to the best buy store looking for a compact speaker system for my iphone. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, all i wanted was a good sound, and after testing a few systems I found this unit had the best sound for the price and I love it is small, easy to carry. I haven't really tried the app so i can't talk about it. I found what I wanted, a small speaker system with an EXCELENT, AMAZING and POWERFUL sound. I love it.

A great speaker with some issues

Posted by: Ricearonie from on 02/15/2013I got the JBL OnBeat aWake as a Bluetooth speaker for my iPod touch, I have never regretted that decision. The audio quality is nice and crisp, great bass that does not drown out the music, and it works with my Nokia Lumia 822. Sadly however there are some problems. First, the clock only resets when and iDevice is connected either through the dock or Bluetooth, so if you don't have an iDevice, you will not have the time. Second, the connection between devices will drop after a period of time so if you are using it as an alarm, look somewhere else. Besides thoughs two problems the OnBeat aWake is a great Bluetooth speaker to listen to music with.

App needs work!

Posted by: loulou122 from Michigan on 01/16/2013I think I may have given this alarm clock a better review overall if it was not dependent on the free Ampup app for the alarm. This sound dock has great sound quality when using a docked device, in my case a iPhone 4s. However, I got this as a gift to use as an alarm clock and for that you need the app. The first night I used it the alarm didn't go off that morning, but I figured out I didn't have the settings correct in the app. Which is very important and not in the quick start guide they give you. So to get the results I wanted out of this alarm clock these are the settings I used.
1. download Ampup app from iTunes.
2. go to settings in app choose location.
3. add/edit alarm and turn on.
4. DISABLE AUTOLOCK ON. Very important if this off alarm wont sound.
5. click done in the right top corner.
6. Don't close the app, scroll over to the first screen on the app. It will eventually dim itself.
If you do close the app or don't have these settings correct your device will simply vibrate once and give you a message on screen saying your alarm is sounding. If you happened to be awake to tap the message, then the alarm would then sound. That part is just an odd design.
Overall I think this is a keeper, sound quality is good, shows me weather/events, and its and alarm clock/sound dock all in one.

A real dud

Posted by: Vallkyre from Dallas, TX on 01/16/2013I got this as a gift and was so disappointed. When I finally got it all set up, app downloaded and navigated, alarm set, and lullaby tunes picked out I connected it to bluetooth and listenend to music for a minute before turning in. I set the iphone on the dock and it told me the accessory wasn't supported. I had to delete the blue tooth to get the unit to recognize the phone. Then I couldn't get the lullaby to play because after research I learned it only plays on the solid black screen. I overslept because in the morning the alarm said it was going off but it did not. The weather display won't stay on my location. I don't want to know how the weather is in another state! When I get it to play music wirelessly it will be great for a little bit and then suddenly it turns off. I have to delete the blue tooth, turn the phone off and back on. Relaunch the bluetooth connection and the app and even then sometimes it just doesn't feel like playing. Unfortunately it's going back because as of now it's just an overpriced charger!

Terrible!!

Posted by: Kyriakos from Staten Island, NY on 01/06/2013Sound is ok. Its totally app dependent. iHome is more user friendly and easier to set the alarm. Its pretty loud and has clean sound but if the iDevice isn't in the dock or in the bluetooth range, then you won't be waking up to get to work on time.
My Galaxy SIII wasn't able to play through bluetooth.

alarm app does not work, it is useless

Posted by: Frankie9999 from NY on 01/02/2013If you want a speaker is it ok, however there are a lot of other external speakers for a lot less that sound just as good and are much cheaper. They advertise it as an alarm, however the free app you must download for the alarm function simply does not work. When you over sleep and look at your phone to see why alarm didn't sound, it will tell you alarm is working, however amp is in sleep mode so it does not disturb you. The Rep gave me a song and dance that even an idiot wouldn't buy. It is advertised to function as an alarm clock, which only works if you want the alarm to wake you within 10 minutes of setting it. The weather function is also a joke, as it will not stay on the location you choose and gives you weather for somewhere else, there is no where to save your choice of location. This is shameful and the product it going back.
