Posted by: Don1128 from Sacramento on 04/19/2013Went in to buy the DR.DRE Beatspill walked out with the solemate.. Compared the JBL-Flip , Beatspill , Jambox and solemate.. FLIP and Beatspill had too much high range... the loudest was the flip but had no bass... jambox good only at low volumes .. SOLEMATE was the best all around sounding speaker.. comes with SOUNDBAG that protects the speaker but doesn't effect sound quality!!...You won't go wrong with this speaker cheap for $129.99!!

Best pocketable Bluetooth Speaker
5
Posted by: JayST from Seattle on 03/10/2013I have tested at least 5 Bluetooth speakers and also own the Logitech UE Mobile Boombox. The Mobile Boombox is great value, attractive, and super portable (half the size of the Solemate), but it sounds tinny at a distance or in lots of background noise. I have tested the Solemate right next to the Jawbone Jambox and the UE Mobile Boombox (long enough to annoy everyone in Best Buy) and it by far has richer sound. Deeper bass and better treble. This is probably because it has a woofer in addition to two tweeters, so has better range. Just about all other speakers have two drivers that are the same size, this one has three drivers total, two different types. Plus a large passive bass radiator. Surprisingly it does not get any louder than the UE Mobile Boombox, but I would not attempt to use it to power a house party... that would be crazy to ask of a speaker you can put in your coat pocket.
It has a very rugged feel, more rugged than every other Bluetooth speaker at Best Buy. I use this in an operating room where I place it on top of whatever horizontal surface is available, and I don't want it to fall off. It also might get knocked around, but this thing appears like a tank and can take a beating. It's nice to not have to worry about it.
The sound quality is not as good as Bose Soundlink or Big Jambox but that is an unfair comparison because those are far bigger speakers. I find the quality in between those and the Jambox/UE Mobile Boombox. The major advantage of the Solemate is you can still fit it in a large pocket (for me a lab coat pocket) whereas the Soundlink and Jambox you have to put in a bag. Thus, this speaker is the best sound pocketable speaker you can buy. Some reviews have noted bass distortion at high volumes but I barely can detect any. I often wonder if one person says something inaccurate online and then that bias is simply repeated across other reviews. There is barely any distortion at full volume to my non-audiophile ears. In a quiet room sitting near the speaker, turning it up over 70% volume, the bass shakes you and is shocking. In a larger room with background noise where you are situated far away, the bass is weak, but again, you can not expect true subwoofer performance from something you carry from a loop with your pinky.
Another neat feature. This is the only Bluetooth speaker I have seen where the volume on the speaker actually moves the volume on the phone (like with AirPlay). They are thus linked, so you never "run out" of volume on the speaker and to go back to the phone to raise the volume more. Also you can easily turn of the voice that tells you it's connected, which some reviewers complain about.
In summary, this is a very cool product that sits between the Jambox and the Big Jambox/Soundlink. It has an aggressive durable but elegant/simple look and is a great value, currently on sale for less than the Jambox.

Great for work and home.

Posted by: Ferbio from Denver,CO on 02/08/2013I use this speaker to replace the one I have at work for my desk. Is really loud when using bluetooth. Not so much when plugged in. I am using an HTC one X. If your using a smartphone, make sure you download an equalizer. Makes it sound WAY better and you can take away some of the bass if it travels too far. I can go through a whole 8 hour day without having to charge it. GREAT.

Great sound, full bass and loud.

Posted by: RolltideNationalChamp2012 from Montgomery, AL on 01/11/2013I originally bought a Beats Pill, really liked it, but it kept losing connection with my iPhone 5. Returned it and the new one did the same, and had a loose charging port. Quality breakdown. I was ready to exchange for a Jawbone, but saw complaints about the small sound and it rattled across the table-top because the underside was hard rubber. Then I read several good reviews here for the Jabra SoulMate and decided to get one. I am glad I did. It connects easily and stays connected. The sound is much fuller than the Pill and louder. This is probably due to the bass bar in the back. The gripper bottom allows me to put it up on my dash when driving. Some may find it not as crisp as the Pill out of the box, but this is greatly helped to my satisfaction with a player that does EQ (iTunes, and gMusic player for Google Music). I was really helped by others reviews here and hope this helps somebody too. I wanted to stick with the Pill but is just would not work. I DO NOT recommend the Pill for any iOS device. Glad that I ended up with the SoulMate with it's fuller sound. Lastly, most complaining about these speakers are because they want a big speaker. For the size, this speaker is awesome.

Great little speaker. Terrific Sound.

Posted by: TuckermanPaws from NH on 01/10/2013This is a great rugged little speaker that can easily fill a room with sound. I use this primarily with my Note 2 phone and the bluetooth range is great. I can leave my phone in one spot and bring the speaker anywhere in the house. The speaker is more than loud enough for typical in home listening. I feel it would work well in a smaller party as well. The battery life is terrific and can easily be checked with the push of a button. I use the speaker daily and can get around 10 days on a single charge. The protective bag will be nice when i bring the speaker outside. My only gripe and reason it does not get 5 stars, is the lack of speaker mounted controls. There are volume controls and an answer/end button. But I would really like to see track controls like play, pause, next, and back. I still love this speaker and look forward to the summer.

Excellent Portable Speaker for my mobile devices

Posted by: Papillo from Allen, TX on 01/06/2013I use this with my iPhone 5, iPad, computer, and ham radio portable KX3 transceiver. Works great. Great audio for such a small box. I tried the "Pill" but this one has more sound to it. Works great when traveling as well in hotel rooms etc. My kids connect up to with their iPods as well.
Very rugged as well. Take it out to the garage or backyard and works good.
No regrets.

Posted by: dubb3000 from Boston, MA on 12/24/2012This is a great sounding speaker!..Tried the Beats Pill..just a name on that one..sounds empty. The Jawbone Jambox sounds just as good (not as loud), but vibrates its self around so much it creates it's own distortion. Let's not jump to the conclusion any of these similar products will compete with Bose. Keep expectations in line with the size and price of these speakers..

Best portable speaker out there

Posted by: DCnacas from on 12/23/2012If you want a huge speaker, go buy one. If you want a potable speaker with amazing sound, long battery life, Bluetooth capabilities to stream music or control, and a sexy design...the Soulmate is what you are looking for. You can even use incredibly easy for conference calls (even while streaming music) for the office.I love buying a well designed and built product.
