Great product but needs a little refining

Posted by: Chumples99 from Lexington, KY on 05/17/2013This is a great product however the most annoying feature is its library of food times.. They are not in any sort of order and when you are searching for something as simple as peanut butter toast it makes things complicated. Other than that small issue...great product.

Posted by: JawboneDOWN from Frisco,tx on 05/17/2013I bought the product for the sleep alarm feature, it worked for 3 days. The device never charged to 100%, after charging for 48hrs. Did soft and hard reset. Returned this product after 3 weeks.

Really would love to give five stars

Posted by: Paul420 from Albuquerque on 05/17/2013Thing beats anything else out there for my use. I initially bough the Up to help monitor my sleeping habits and to remind me to get up and move at work.
The big problem with the Up is that when it works it seems to be very accurate, unfortunately that is not always the case. The Up data can not always be counted on. Just when you think it is the greatest thing around it drops the ball by saying you took 2,500 steps in the last 15 minutes while you where getting ready for work. Or that you fell asleep two hours later than you really did.
The other problem is the failure rate, this is my third Up. The other two just stopped working with no warning. What I mean by stopped working is completely dead.

Comfortable, great features, terrible alarm
3
Posted by: WAryan from Washington on 05/16/2013I got my Up about three weeks ago primarily as a silent alarm. We recently got a puppy so I'm waking up 2x a night plus early mornings for work and I didn't want to wake up my wife and 9 month old daughter. I really needed it for the alarm feature and I really didn't plan on wearing it all day, every day.
The pros are it is comfortable enough and looks good enough that I have in fact ended up wearing it 24/7. I love the information I get from it (it is almost addictive!) and it is completely unobtrusive. You don't even have to think about it! I sync it morning and night and that is it. I actually look forward to syncing it to see where I am! The fact that you have to take it off to sync it is not a big deal at all. I've found the iOS interface to be user friendly, intuitive and stable. As for the alarm, I love the idea of the "smart alarms" - anything that makes waking up less painful is a great thing! They do actually work, when they catch me in a light cycle I do wake up easier. However....
The problem (and it is a major problem for me) is that it doesn't consistently wake me up! I am a very heavy sleeper, but everything I read said it would be fine. When it comes down to it, I sleep through at least 1 out of 3 alarms. Normally they have been the middle of the night, take the dog out alarms so it wasn't a big deal. But, recently I've slept though my morning alarms twice and been late to work once! The alarm only vibrates for 1 minute, then it is DONE. Nothing else. I find it pretty easy to sleep though. In fact, many times my sleep chart doesn't even show me coming out of deep sleep! To make things worse, about 1 out of 6 alarms doesn't even go off (or at least it doesn't wake me up and it never shows up on the sleep record). Also, there is no "snooze" function which is a bummer. There have been a couple of times where the alarm does barely wake me up but I fall back asleep before I can get out of bed. A snooze would be really nice. Since the alarms are one of the major functions of the Up I was really disappointed in this.
All in all, if the alarm would actually wake me up this would be a fantastic product. For the light or moderate sleeper I bet it would be fine but not for heavy sleepers. I love the functions, it is well thought out and has been a fun experiment for me. I've worn it daily for 3 weeks and have become very comfortable with it. I'm disappointed that it just doesn't wake me up. I've emailed Jawbone about this but they do not have a remedy. I'm afraid I will be returning it, which is kinda sad to me! It's a great fitness tracker but a failure as an alarm.

Ease of use & convenient

Posted by: Rharley0 from Columbus, OH on 05/15/2013I was looking at this product and also the fitbit. I chose this because you just wear it like a bracelet. No need to transfer from one item of clothing to another (and forgetting to do so). To monitor sleep the fitbit has to be put into a band that goes around your wrist, which you then have to remove the next day and resituate the fitbit to monitor your steps. Because this is a bracelet style it is always in position. I remove it to shower but the manufacturer claims it is shower proof. The convenience of this was the deciding factor for me.
It is quite neat to be able to look at your sleep patterns as well as monitoring your activity. Also gives you periodic summaries and hints.
Disadvantage is no web portal, however this is not a deal breaker. You can still compare results with other Jawbone users.

Desk-side support

Posted by: Meekey from Philly, PA on 05/11/2013I started a new job where I'm sitting at a desk every day and wanted to know what type of activity (or lack there of) I was getting during an average work day. This device has helped me understand how lazy my days had become, as I set it to go off after 30 minutes of inactivity. I would do the calorie tracking, but until I can take a picture and have the phone figure it out, it is way too cumbersome. I usually can barely notice it is on, even when I'm doing my activities.
