Synopsis

Synopsis
Amid the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, newly minted detective Cole Phelps is thrown headfirst into a city drowning in violence and corruption. Utilizing groundbreaking new technology that captures an actor's facial performance in astonishing detail, L.A. Noire is a violent crime thriller that blends breathtaking action with true detective work to deliver an unprecedented interactive experience. Interrogate witnesses, search for clues and chase down suspects as you struggle to find the truth in a city where everyone has something to hide.

Against an overarching plot of violence and betrayal, L.A. Noire challenges players to solve a series of self-contained cases as they work their way through the ranks of the LAPD. Each case features a distinct storyline with a beginning, middle and end, and each successfully solved case brings new challenges and leads Cole closer to the true story at the dark heart of the Los Angeles criminal underworld.

Features

  • Solve a variety of cases across the desks of Patrol, Traffic, Homicide, Vice and Arson
  • Search crime scenes for clues, question witnesses and interrogate suspects as you search for the truth in each case
  • Use your wits to analyze suspects' behavior and separate the truth from the lies
  • Experience a stunningly accurate block-by-block recreation of 8 square miles of 1947 L.A.
  • Solve brutal crimes, plots and conspiracies inspired by real crimes from 1947 Los Angeles, one of the most corrupt and violent times in L.A. history
  • Multiple difficulty settings give players of all abilities the chance to step into the shoes of a detective in post-war L.A.

Amazing game!

Posted by: from Gresham, OR on 04/21/2013It's an overall amazing game and I love everything about it. The graphics are stunning! I really enjoy the time period it is set in as well. The cases are challenging and make you pay attention to detail if you want a perfect score, however at times, they can be a bit too difficult. Although, I can overlook that because I just love the game!

Great Game for a Los Angeles resident

Posted by: from LA, CA on 04/13/2013Like most Rocksteady games, the game looks great and provides a full interactive world. I particularly liked this game because of the historical significance. It's fun to travel down LA streets as they existed decades ago before modern construction and traffic.

Great thinking game

Posted by: from on 09/09/2012Not for young kids unless you don't mind their exposure to violence nudity, and vulgar language. Found this on sale at a very low price. I was hooked from the start. It reminded me of a "choose your path" mystery book... but for adults. Although I could guess the ending, I still enjoyed the storyline. The procedure does get repetitive even though it's not in order: find your person of interest, search for clues, interrogate, on to the next. I'm a casual gamer and I found this to be challenging enough to keep my attention. As you investigate your case, you have the option of responding to street crimes. These side games kept me entertained on the way to the next lead or interview.

Holds interest for the mature player

Posted by: from Milwaukee, wi on 07/28/2011Graphics and in game environment are very immersive and detailed. Fans of the 30 and 40's era would find this game interesting, as would anyone that likes solving mysteries and/or playing adventure type games. There is a little bit of game play to offer the FPS player, but that is not what this game is about. Those that enjoy just driving around in GTA 4 might like doing so in this game, as the map is very large and detailed. The interogation aspect of the game gives this game a new dimension in game play, although it does not allow you to formulate your own follow-up questions.

Great game. Short story

Posted by: from on 06/19/2011I was highly anticipating this game to see what Rockstar could do when the criminal roles of the Grand Theft Auto games are reversed and you play as the cops instead. All in all, it's a fun game. But the one problem I had with the game is the story is just too short. If it would of been longer it would of easily gotten 5 stars. Hopefully Rockstar takes the path they took with GTA IV and releases at least 2 or 3 decent DLCs in the near future.

L.A. Noire

Posted by: from Game World on 06/17/2011L.A. Noire has you thinking and acting like a detective.Throughout the game's 21 cases, which will see your character in multiple departments in the LAPD,you will need to survey crime scenes, pick up and examine items, and interview people of interest to obtain new leads. The interviewing segments are the main focus of the game, requiring you to use the evidence or clues you've collected to determine if a suspect is telling the truth, hiding information,or outright lying to you.Not only is the lip synching the most accurate of any title yet released, but facial expressions come into play as well. You can only ask questions from a list of topics gathered from the clues you've discovered, then decide to believe, doubt,or disregard the answer. If your expecting an open-world sandbox game like Red Dead Redemption or GTA IV you'll be turned off.But it's great in story telling, and technology. This game isn't quite the blockbuster game many expected, but the high production values and atmosphere make it a must play title.
