    Great Picture Quality, but pauses all the time

    Posted by: from Buffalo, NY on 03/29/2013I purchased this player because I was looking for a player with a coaxial digital output and Hulu Plus which limits your choices to just one or two. I had an oppo BDP-105 and then decided to switch to a seperate high end CD player and inexpensive blu-ray with streaming to get a better music experience. I first tried the new Sony 3100, but the picture quality was awful and this was the only other one that seemed to fit the bill. I was using an Apple TV running through the Oppo with HDMI for Hulu Plus streaming which had great HD image quality and never ever buffered so it played smooth from beginning to end!! I also tried Apple TV on its own and did not notice a difference in picuture quality, as it was still great, when going direct to the TV. I know this is a long introduction to the review, but when I got home and set up the LG all went smooth as it does with most any brand. Then I tried to stream Hulu and the picture quality was really good, but it buffered and paused for 5 seconds about every 20 seconds. I never had to worry about this issue with the Apple TV. I then tried to hard wire the player and the same issue occured, so it was not an issue with wifi, but with the processing of the player itself. This player does have the resume feature, so if you get one that actually works then it would be a great player.

However, I have always had very good luck with LG products. This product is very easy to use and setup. I had no issues connecting to my wireless connection. Which I did have using a previous Sony. I would like to mention that i do not use this for Netflix viewing. So i am unable to mention how the setup is for that application as well as for Hulu plus. The picture on this unit is excellent. But I do believe that as time goes on and the growing popularity of blu ray, that almost all players will have a very good picture. This is dependent of course on the type of t.v. Or projector, etc. You have this hooked up to. The same will go for sound. All depends on what you will be using to decode the sound. So if you are looking for a unit that is easy to setup and connects effortlessly to your wi-if. Then I recommend this player. Lastly, I would like to mention the LG apps. These are in there infancy and as of now, unless you pay of course. There are few useful free apps that I fond interesting.
