Great Multi Camera Baby Monitor4

This camera is very easy to set up and to add additional cameras. The camera can also run on batteries so you can move it to where ever the baby is or where older kids might be playing which is a nice feature.
only down side is that the sound is incredibly low even at the max. Basically when there is a sound in the room it alerts you by making a beep0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

My husband and i were very excited to order this product- he especially liked the feature where you could view the baby remotely (so he could get his baby fix at wok). Unfortunately, when i installed i, (and double checked and read directions) the volume was so low it was useless, i didn't want to leave my 4 week old screaming for help while his parents sleep through it because the volume on the monitor isn't loud enough to wake us (and i am a very light sleeper). It may have just been on bad monitor or it could be a bad design.. I did not try another and got a different video monitor that works perfect for us.1 out of 2 found this review helpful.

Just what we needed5

We have gone through several monitors before the Lorex, and most recently a Levana. The Lorex is far and away the best one we have had, and hopefully our last.
Range:
I live in a subdivision and I can walk two houses down to get our mail and still be in range of the cameras. For one of the cameras I don't even need to open the extended antenna, but for the bedroom in the back of the house the extended antenna is needed at this range. Still more than enough for me.
Battery:
The battery on this unit is great. It will easily last five plus hours on a single charge in scan mode with two cameras.
Video:
We have two kids and two cameras. The split view is great because if they are both fussing when putting them down I can watch simultaneously to see if I need to go up and which one. The night mode works fine and I can see my kids in bed in a 11' x 11' room without issue.
Features:
I have used the talk feature with good success. For my older child I can call out on the monitor to come down stairs when she gets up and she hears me no problem.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

I did a ton of research on video baby monitors and ended up with this one. I've had it for a month or so and love it! I have not used the features that require the SD card, but I plan to. I was a bit concerned about the volume - I read reviews that stated the volume was low and there was no volume control from the monitor. The volume is perfect, and there is certainly volume controls on the monitor. The battery life is impressive - well, it's better than my last monitor. I keep the video on most of the time which drains the battery, and it still lasts several hours (at least 4, maybe 5). The picture is very clear and is the perfect size. Auto-mute is great for night time, as is the option to turn the video off, but like I said, I normally keep the video on and flip the monitor on it's face when I go to sleep. Reception is good - I can walk around my back yard which is a good size, and not lose reception.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

I bought this monitor because of a friend referral. I also bought the Summer 3.5 Touch, and the Motorola MBP35 (3.5 screen). I originally bought the Summer Touch but wasn't 100% sold on it. That is why i purchased the other two.
First off, the good:
- Screen Clarity - Seemed better than the Summer and about the same as the Motorola.
- Night Vision - This monitor had the best vision at night of all of the monitors. Everything was much brighter and easier to see. (also listed in the Negatives later).
- Battery life - It seemed to get around 5 hours on a charge. About the same or a tad less than the Summer, but about 2 hours better than the Motorola.
- Ability to record and save. - I only played with this feature, but I thought it would be great to have if a nanny or babysitter was over and you could keep track of the actual happenings with your baby. - Neither of the other two monitors had this feature.
- Lullaby function - I'm not sure how much this would actually be used, but I thought it was a nice feature to have. The Motorola also had this.
- Night Light - Again, not sure how much it would be used, but another nice feature. Neither of the other two monitors had this.
- VIDEO STAYS ON when off of the charger. - I thought this was a great feature because on the other monitors you have to keep pressing the video button after it automatically times out after about 2 minutes to be able to see the screen and what is going on. They do this as a power saving feature but it is more aggravating than anything. The Lorex stays on and makes it easy.
- The ability to add other cameras and be able to view them all simultaneously. The other two monitors allow you to add cameras, but have to view one at a time. Again, not sure if most parents would ever need this, but it is a nice feature.
Now, with the BAD.
- No Zoom feature on the Lorex. Both the Summer and Motorola have this ability. It has a pretty clear picture, but there are times where I want to zoom in on my child and could not.
- No Panning feature on the Lorex. Both the Summer and Motorola have this. While this may be ok with some who just want to see a certain area of the crib, or don't mind leaving the camera in a fixed place, it could be an issue for others. I thought I could easily get past this, but I couldn't.
- Audio - When compared to the Summer, you practically had to lay your ear on the back of the monitor (where the speaker is) to be able to hear the child. The Summer picks up the swing going back and forth, and allows you to adjust the volume to hear much more than the Lorex.
- The Talk function. - If you put your mouth right on the microphone, it works ok. However, testing it with my wife and the Summer, she continuously said the Summer's sound quality on the other end was much better.
- Audio Alerts. - a great idea for a feature, but it randomly worked and was more irritating than anything.
- The Auto Mute, and Scan features. - While these are great features to have, they did not seem to work. They randomly chose when to turn on and it usually had to come from a loud noise, but sometimes chose not to even come on then. - And YES, I did adjust the sensitivity on the side.
- Skype - while this is a GREAT selling point, it has its flaws. First, you cannot plug the monitor into a Mac computer to use this feature. Second, even when plugged into a PC, the video is so far behind and lacking once on Skype, it takes away the usefulness of the feature all together. Sometimes it would not even show movements that clearly happened.
- Inability to connect the monitor to a TV or other video source. The Summer allows you to connect the monitor to a TV through RCA/mini usb so that you can view it on a larger screen if desired. The Lorex and Motorola do not.
- The Night Vision. - While stated as a positive earlier (which it is), it also has a slight negative. The LED's on the camera are red and clearly visible at night, whereas the ones for the other monitors are not. This may bother or alert some children/etc., and may not for others. It is just a point I thought I should mention.
After wanting to love this monitor and replace the Summer with it (already sent the Motorola back due to lack of technical support and inability to plug into another video source), I am afraid I am going to have to send the Lorex back as well. I wish someone would take the good parts of each of these monitors and combine them, but as of now, they have not. For now, we are sticking with the Summer monitor because it had the least negatives of all 3. I think the main reason I wanted something instead of the Summer monitor is because they specialize in baby clothes, products, etc. Motorola and Lorex specialize in communications and surveillance, therefore I figured there products would be better. I was mistaken.53 out of 54 found this review helpful.

Great Monitor, but not without flaws4

I've had this monitor for a couple weeks now. Overall its pretty impressive but it does have some weaknesses. I did some research before buying and compared this model in great detail to similar models from Motorola, Samsung, and Summer Infant. At $180, It was a great value. As I'm writing this however, the price has jumped to $299. Not worth it at that price. The video is decent quality and the frame rate is fast so it doesn't appear choppy like cheaper monitors. Battery life is good. The monitor and charging cradle are good quality and buttons and menus are intuitive and easy to navigate. Set up and installation were very quick and easy. The camera can also work wirelessly with 4 AA batteries but I have yet to find a need for that feature. Range is excellent. I walked around my entire block with the monitor and only lost signal when there were physical obstructions in the way(like other houses). The monitor has a signal strength indicator just like a cell phone as well as an out range warning unlike other models. The features it lacks compared to others are pan, tilt, and zoom, as well as the ability to view the feed from your TV. I don't have picture in picture on my TV, and I didn't want to pay $50-$70 more just to move the camera around remotely. In retrospect, I miss having at least a digital zoom as it can be tricky to find the right location for the camera to get the view you want. The features I liked were the temperature display and temp alarm, built-in lullabies, auto and manual recording to an included SD card, and auto muting so that you don't have to listen to white-noise. The deciding factor for me was the ability to remote view the video feed using Skype. Initially I wanted grandparents to use skype to see the baby, but I also wanted to use it as a nanny cam down the road. Unfortunately, this feature is not compatible with Macs. Lorex just released a driver(Nov '11) for Macs to address the issue, but I'm sad to report that it does not work. Another let down is the 2-way audio between monitor and camera. The talk button is right next to the microphone on the monitor, so its easy to cover it up with your thumb and render it useless. It also doesn't pick up your voice well unless your mouth is right up against the mic or the volume is all the way up on the camera. If you turn the volume all the way up though, the built in lullabies will BLAST through the speaker and wake your child. It's too bad there is no volume or sensitivity control on the monitor. You have to adjust it on the camera. It might take you a little while to find the right sensitivity level as well. Lastly, the camera is quick to switch to infrared(black and white) even in low light that you could see just fine if you were in the room. Overall I'm happy with it and would buy it again because my complaints are minor and I think that other products would have minor issues of their own at a higher cost.17 out of 17 found this review helpful.

We purchased this monitor after one of our twins escaped from her crib one night. It has many great features. I love the movement sensor, you don't have to be watching the monitor constantly to know that one of them is in action it just beeps and I know to look, Also the picture is very sharp and clear even at night. I can finally sleep again without worrying. And the modern design is a plus. I am really loving this monitor !!10 out of 10 found this review helpful.

Best Baby Monitor!5

First let me say that I very rarely write any reviews. I'm always the sceptic. This Lorex camera is hands down the best camera on the market. It is my 4th monitor in 3 years. This has every feature you could want and more. I am a very light sleeper so I had problems with other cameras being too sensitive or not turning the volume down low enough. Some of the features I love are the adjustable sensitivity, built in night light, built in pre recorded lullabies, two way communication, automatic record upon movement, the temp gauge, etc. The battery works very well - I leave the base upstairs and charge it at night. During the day I just carry the handheld unit downstairs while the kids nap. Signal strength is awesome too! My last 2 monitors got terrible reception, but this one doesn't interfere with all my husbands "gadgets". Save yourself some headache and get this one!18 out of 21 found this review helpful.
