With temperatures rising and supply shortages abounding, the last thing the 4077th needs is an official prohibition on alcoholic beverages. As thirsty as the next man, Hawkeye (Alan Alda) are B.J. (Mike Farrell) nonetheless determined to keep up the camp's morale. This leads to their planning a special screening of Otto Preminger's once-notorious movie The Moon is Blue (Imagine somebody saying the word "virgin" on the big screen! Charles (David Ogden Stiers) and Hawkeye (Alan Alda) are out to prove the old adage that one can never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the average person. To that end, the two doctors spread a rumor that Hollywood sex symbol Marilyn Monroe will soon be paying a visit to the 4077th. The only person left unexcited by this "news" is B.J. (Mike Farrell), who is conducting a desperate search for a wounded soldier that he was forced to leave in the battlefield--and who was indirectly responsible for B.J. earning a Purple Heart. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A nurse that Hawkeye (Alan Alda) once dated casually has died. Inasmuch as he is the only person at the 4077th who knew anything about the decedent, Hawk is called upon to deliver her eulogy. As he investigates the last few days of the departed nurse, Hawk is surprised to discover that she was far more emotionally involved with him than she ever let on. And on a somewhat lighter note, Klinger (Jamie Farr) tries to finagle Charles (David Ogden Stiers) into investing in another get-rich-quick scheme. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Tired of having his lackluster practical jokes compared to the legendary japes concocted by his predecessor Trapper John, B.J. (Mike Farrell) announces that he will pull a series of surprise gags on everyone in camp over a 24-hour period--and if he doesn't succeed in this undertaking, he will perform a striptease in the mess tent. As the days pass, everyone falls victim to B.J.'s comic assault. Only Hawkeye (Alan Alda) has thus far been spared--but could Beej be saving the best joke till last? Army PR officer Major Reddish (Jeffrey Tambor) unsubtly puts the screws on the doctors of the 4077th. A North Korean pilot has been brought to the hospital, and Reddish is determined that the enemy soldier defect as a morale-boosting gimmick. Everyone at the 4077th is celebrating Halloween with a lavish costume party at Rosie's bar--everyone but Charles (David Ogden Stiers), who is not only still on duty, but also hates and despises the so-called holiday. Before the inevitable crisis in which the colorfully garbed staffers pack the O.R., a round-robin session of ghost stories has spines a-shivering (even Charles'); Father Mulcahy must contend with a real-life horror; and an anoxeric patient (Richard Lineback) invokes the "ghosts" which haunt his conscience. In the opening episode of M*A*S*H's 11th and final season, Margaret (Loretta Swit) drives the nurses of the 4077th mercilessly while her own superior officer, the notoriously severe Colonel Buckholtz (Peggy Seury), conducts an inspection. In the process, Margaret learns to fully appreciate the women in her command. So does Hawkeye (Alan Alda), as he witnesses an act of effortless efficiency and unexpected compassion performed by the hitherto taken-for-granted Nurse Kellye (Kellye Nakahara). Hawkeye (Alan Alda) receives a letter from Mildred Potter, the wife of the 4077's commanding officer Col. Potter (Harry Morgan). Sworn to secrecy, Hawk refuses to divulge the contents of the letter to Potter, despite intense pressure on the part of the curious Colonel. It's the 4077th MASH unit vs. the 8063rd in a big footrace. To improve their respective odds, both camps have arranged for trained Olympic runners to compete. Margaret (Loretta Swit) has a new phonograph but no records. Charles (David Ogden Stiers) has a huge record collection, but a lousy phonograph. Obviously, one of these people is going to try to curry favor with the other--and B.J., caught in the middle of the intrigue, tries to play both ends down the middle. Meanwhile, Col. Each of the delegates leaves a distinct and profound impression upon a separate member of the MASH unit. At the suggestion of Charles (David Ogden Stiers), Margaret (Loretta Swit) prepares to bury a time capsule at the 4077th. Hawkeye volunteers to help collect souvenirs for the capsule, but Margaret turns him down, worried that he will turn the whole ceremony into joke. Before Hawk inevitably proves that his intentions are honorable, Klinger (Jamie Farr) develops a fondness for Soon-Li Hahn (Rosalind Chao), a wounded Korean woman suspected of being an enemy sniper. Originally telecast as the next-to-last installment of M*A*S*H (though actually filmed after the series' celebrated feature-length finale), "As Time Goes By" is dedicated to the memory of the series' late technical advisor Dr. Connie Izay. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

It is Charles' (David Ogden Stier turn to handle the collection charities, an assignment he devoutly wishes to dodge. As he tries to pass his responsibilities along to others, things inevitable come full-circle back to him. And on a less amusing note, a GI (Craig Wasson) resents the fact that the North Korean soldier (Dereck Wong) who wounded him has been placed in the bed next to his. M*A*S*H: Goodbye, Farewell & Amen
Goodbye, Farewell and Amen was the instant-classic final installment of the long-running TV series M*A*S*H. After nearly three bloody years of combat in Korea (and 11 years' worth of TV time!), a truce has been declared and the 4077th is going home. News of the cease-fire affects different people different ways. The happiest of the bunch should be Captain "Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda), but he is undergoing a mysterious bout of depression over a horrible incident in his past. Meanwhile, the insufferable Major Winchester (David Ogden Stiers) shows signs of mellowing as he trains a group of musically-inclined Korean prisoners in the niceties of European chamber music. Others who must begin seriously considering a future unblemished by the threat of war are newly married Corporal Klinger (Jamie Farr), newly divorced Major Margaret Houlihan (Loretta Swit), and the hearing-impaired Father Mulcahy (William Christopher). The central mystery of the episode concerns the nature of Captain B. J. Hunnicutt's "special" goodbye to his roommate and best friend Hawkeye.
