Posted by: TheObservers from Palm Bay, Fla on 05/11/2013I'm impressed with this player, it really brings out the highs. Super crisp and clear, and nice sub lows. I have been using my BD player for CD's, but they are not really made for the music listener. I had read reviews on this player, and decided to give it a try, no regreats. I hooked it up to my Elite SC-65, used a digital cable. For the cleanest sound, I plugged it into a Panamax M5300. All I can say is, outstanding sound quality...............

Nice sounding CD player for a decent price

Posted by: ElectronicsTechnician40yr from Massachusetts on 02/16/2013I purchased this unit to replace my very first CD player Technics SLP2. The laser (optical pickup) finally gave up on it. And instead of finding a new old stock laser to repair it. I figured it was time to treat myself and purchase a new cd player, one with better DACs.
I am very pleased with the audio quality of the Marantz. The cabinet is nice to look at also, but that did not influence me in the purchase.
For the price it sounds as good as some of the more expensive units I have heard.

Best CD player on the market for the money!!!!!

Posted by: wrfoy from Colorado Springs, CO on 02/16/2013I have listened to at least fifty CD players over the past four years knowing I needed to upgrade my old Harmon Kardon. Mostly I listened only to high end products because I have been spoiled by my older integrated 250 watt stereo system that soothes the soul. This Marantz CD5004 player has proved to rivive all the music styles I listen to with gusto and carity. This unit surpasses in sound quality many of the $1,000 higher end products I have tested on my stereo. If you have an older integrated system and your CD's just don't sound the way they used to, this CD player will renew your system, your pocket book and restore your well being!

Great budget cd player

Posted by: excowboy9 from Loveland, CO on 05/30/2012Most avid music fans have transitioned to media servers or hard disks at this point simply because the technology is readily available and affordable. I still enjoy playing shiny disks from time to time however so I picked up this highly rated player. At this price point, nothing else can really compete except for perhaps the budget offerings from Cambridge Audio and NAD. In any case, SQ from CD players matured in the nineties so it's quite absurd to spend over a $1000 on a CD player at this point despite what audio boutique salesman try to tell you.
This is a great sounding player. It's quiet and feels solid unlike the Denon DCM-290 changer I have in another room. The Denon sounds great but it's longevity is suspect and it's quite loud. The Marantz will play MP3/WMA files, displays CD text when available and offers customizable audio quality settings. In short, it does everything I desired from a CD player at this price point. Hopefully, it will last as long as my previous single disc player (17 years).

very good sounding cd player!

Posted by: bethanndee from Vermont on 03/01/2012My old cd (dvd) player was the weak link in my home stereo system, and I upgraded it to this. The Marantz feels solidly built (it's heavy!) and the mechanics of the cd drawer feel solid, too. The function buttons are intuitive. I am quite happy with the sound of my system now (NAD amp and pre-amp, Focal speakers, and this cd player). There are definitely better sounding cd players out there (e.g., the Yamaha I listened to, for $800), but in this price range ($350), this was a good choice!

Posted by: Swiller from Esko, MN. on 01/23/2012What more can be said? Transiants are crisp, clear and concise. The "CD" sound is lacking as this player acts as though it is playing analog recordings like a vinyl record. Absolutely spot on in every catagory of performance and appearance. In a catagory with the big boys like Oppo, Naim, Rega, NAD, Bystron, Musical Fidelity and scores of others. Well done and highly recommended. A bargain that will be referred to for years to come.
Bravo Marantz!

Amazing to say the least

Posted by: Eddie90723 from Paramount, Ca on 02/18/2011This cd player is something incredible. The quality of the audio and the amount of detail it reveals is jaw dropping. I have it connected to a pair or MartinLogan Source 4's speakers. The clarity of the audio, the ability to adjust pitch, and the fact that it has an option to shut down extra features to focus more power on higher quality sound still....I can never go back to listening to CDs on anything that is not the Marantz CD5004.
