    Diary of a Perfect Murder
"Not since Columbo has catching a killer been this clever!" That was the ad come-on for Diary of a Perfect Murder, a 1986 TV movie starring Andy Griffith as a homespun Georgia defense attorney. Griffith takes the case of a TV reporter (Steve Inwood) who has been accused of the murder of his ex-wife. In the tradition of Perry Mason, Matlock plays his cards close to the vest, then reveals the identity of the true murderer right in the courtroom. Sound familiar? It should: Diary of a Perfect Murder was the pilot film for Andy Griffith's still-running Matlock series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Judge
A woman has been brutally stabbed to death while her lover was taking a shower, and now it's up to Matlock to catch the real killer and clear the innocent boyfriend of suspicion. Unfortunately for both Matlock and the accused, the real killer may be the judge presiding over this very case. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Don, Part 2
Notorious mobster Nicholas Baron has been accused of killing his biggest rival, and though Matlock initially refuses to defend Baron in court a surprise discovery about the man's true job description - not to mention his dedication to family - causes the seasoned defense attorney to reconsider. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Cop
Matlock puts in some serious overtime after accepting the case of a detective accused of accepting bribes, murdering a fence, and also suspected of killing a fellow officer. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Affair
A maid has been accused of murdering her employer, and now the dead man's widow has requested that Matlock represent the woman in court. Realizing that the request is somewhat odd, Matlock quickly discovers that there is more going on behind the scenes than he first suspected. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Stripper
A man whom Matlock once represented in a bitter divorce proceeding is found murdered, and the prime suspect in the case is his wife. Years ago, when Jason and Carla divorced, Carla wound up gaining custody of the pair's young son. Now, Jason has discovered that Carla is working as a stripper. After threatening to take custody of their son, Jason is found near death and Carla is singled out as the main suspect. But when Matlock learns of a woman named Helen Shelly, his suspicions begin to shift towards her for a number of compelling reasons. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: Santa Claus
A luckless Santa Claus has been accused of murdering that landlord who was preparing to evict an entire apartment complex, and though the suspected murdered isn't much liked by his neighbors they all pitch in to get him the best defense that money can buy: Matlock. Matlock doesn't much care for the man either, but not liking someone and believing that they are capable of murder aren't exactly one in the same. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Professor
After awakening from a drunken stupor in the driver's seat of his car, Matlock's former professor Erskine Tate is accused of hitting a mailman during his booze-soaked joyride: Trouble is, Tate has no recollection of anything that happened that night. As Matlock begins to look into the case, his investigation soon leads him to a pair of shifty students and their suspicious teaching assistant. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Angel
A free-spirited rock star named Angel has been accused of murdering her manager, and Charlene accepts the case before Matlock even had a chance to consider it. Angel's case proves an especially difficult one when it's revealed that she was in an alcohol-induced blackout when the crime was committed, and as a result the hard-partying rocker cannot produce even the most basic of alibis. Asked by Matlock to tone down her lifestyle in the courtroom, Angel is nearly convicted of murder based on attitude alone. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Sisters
Matlock's old friend Harold Scully has asked the seasoned attorney to defend him against charges that he murdered his wealthy wife, and as Matlock delves ever deeper into the case he realizes that Harold's two nieces are deeply disturbed. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Seduction
Ageing gridiron giant Brad Bingham is a notorious womanizer who's about to be cut from the team, and as Matlock prepares to represent the publicly maligned jock Charlene learns not to believe everything she reads in the tabloids. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Don, Part 1
In part one of this two-part episode, Matlock raises eyebrows when he defends a paroled crime lord who was charged with murdering the man who framed him. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Matlock: The Court Martial, Part 1
Matlock stands firm against military disapproval when he elects to defend a soldier who allegedly killed a cruel officer. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Convict
Seven years after Matlock failed in convincing a jury that Les Matthews didn't murder his business partner, the recently released parolee is violently attacked while reading in the local library. But when the attacker winds up dead instead of the intended victim, Les is once again suspected of murder. Matlock, suspecting that Les is innocent of any wrongdoing, recruits Tyler to go into prison undercover and draw some key evidence from the dead man's former cell-mate. In the end, Matlock solves two murders for the price of one. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Photographer
Matlock agrees to do a bit of pro bono work when a photographer's assistant with a juvenile record is implicated in the murder of her mentor. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The People vs. Matlock
Matlock is defending a union boss against murder charges when a juror comes forward with a claim that the respected barrister bribed him in order to cast a certain plea. Later, as Julie works to prove Matlock's innocence, she discovers that the man responsible for the murder is the same man who tried to take discredit Matlock in the courtroom. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Therapist
A famous actor has been accused of killing the owner of the popular sex-therapy clinic, and it's up to Matlock to find the true culprit. According to the prosecutor, the clinic owner had released the actor's name to the press, providing the perfect motive for murder. Now, as Matlock attempts to discern whether the actor is truly a murderer, his attention is diverted by the appearance of a former student in search of a job. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Matlock: The Court Martial, Part 2
An Army grunt has been accused of killing a sadistic lieutenant, and as Matlock delves into the case he finds that the lieutenant and four other offers were involved in some suspicious activity. Meanwhile, Charlene successfully goes undercover and gets especially close with one of the suspect officers. Later, on the stand, Charlene gets the officer to admit that the group was smuggling drugs. In the aftermath of that damning revelation, Matlock reveals that one of the officers sports a rather suspicious scar. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Nurse
When a desperate private nurse is accused of killing her patient, she offers her engagement ring to Matlock as a fee to defend her in court. But the dead woman's wife claims that the ring had been recently stolen, a revelation that leads Matlock to deduce that someone isn't being entirely truthful. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Reporter
Laurie Palmer has been arrested and charged with the murder of her husband, but Atlanta Examiner reporter Danny Abrams is convinced that he woman is innocent. Though Matlock initially refuses the case in order to take a long overdue vacation, the probing reporter eventually convinces him to defend Palmer by claiming that he wants to write an article on the seasoned attorney. Later, a discrepancy in the coroner's report and a surprise appearance in the courtroom sends the case careening in an altogether unexpected direction. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Chef
Her former husband having suddenly died after tasting a dish they were preparing together on her popular cooking show, television chef Victoria Edwards enlists Matlock's aid in helping to prove that she's innocent of murder. Matlock: The Author
An author accused of penning a thinly veiled condemnation of small town and its citizens has been targeted for murder. Later, a local reverend falls victim to the killer and Matlock is summoned to defend the prime suspect. The deeper he delves into the case, the more Matlock realizes that the author may not have been the killer's intended target after all. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Rat Pack
Beverly Hills cookie entrepreneur Adam Gardner is accused of murder after his girlfriend's body is discovered in his hot tub, and to make matters worse the authorities claim to have an eyewitness to the crime. But while every corporate lawyer he speaks with implores him to plead guilty, Adam boldly recruits Matlock to defend him in court. At first Matlock believes his latest client to be completely innocent, but when letters arise that seem to implicate the murdered woman in an affair with Adam's so-called "best friend" the seasoned lawyer begins to experience some serious doubts about his stance. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

    Matlock: The Doctors
Dr. David Westlake has been murdered, and no wonder given his reputation for harassing his overworked medical students. Initially, it seems that the killer could be any one of four suspects. But though they all had motives in the murder, Dr. Jacobs was actually seen fleeing the scene of the crime. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
