Synopsis

Synopsis
For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.

Featuring cutting-edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behavior system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story, Max Payne 3 is a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience from Rockstar Games. In addition to an expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also be the first entry in the series to introduce a thorough and engrossing multiplayer experience. Max Payne 3 multiplayer brings the same cinematic feel, fluid gunplay and sense of movement of the single-player game into the realm of online multiplayer. Using the fiction and signature gameplay elements of the Max Payne universe, Max Payne 3 features a wide range of new and traditional multiplayer modes that play on the themes of paranoia, betrayal and heroism, all delivered with the same epic visual style of the single-player game.

RockStar Does it Again!

Posted by: from New York, NY on 05/02/2013I would like to note that I have only made it to chapter 3 in single player; with that said, this will not be a full review. However, I would like to share my initial thoughts thus far. That being- I am having an absolute blast. The gameplay so far is tight, brutal, and well refined. They make great use of the bullet time and I by no means feel over powered (playing on hard with free aim). Well, no more over powered then you would expect from a John Woo style shooter. If I get shot twice, which happens a lot, I am going down. Max Payne 3 is a breath of fresh air so far in a market of mostly standard FPS fare. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy FPS's, but this is a very welcome change up. Story wise everyone should know the deal by now. But, the way it is presented is what I love. I feel like I am playing Man on Fire. I must admit that the overlapping editing can get annoying at first. By act two I didn't even notice it. Actually, I thought it lent itself to Max's addictions and it gives MP3 a unique visual flare not found in other games. I can see it being a turn off to some, but I enjoy it. Rockstar created my favorite game of all time which is Red Dead Redemption and GTAIV not trailing far behind. While I don't see this being my favorite Rockstar game, I absolutely see it being another great addition to my Rockstar collection and worthy of the critical praise it has been receiving. But, you be the judge and try it yourself. Rockstar seems to have made a name for itself for building products that are technologically sharp, well told, and polished- MP3 so far does not negate those foundations.

Posted by: from sacramento on 04/14/2013The slow down feature of this games is epic and should be used in more video games, also since this is a remake of the cult classic that came to the original playstation the developer did an excellent job remaking this hit.

Great sequal to a great franchise

Posted by: from Cincinnati,Oh. on 01/19/2013This is an excellent continuation of what was one of the best franchises out. It takes a new approach on the past 2 games by taking Max to a new location with a lot of new levels and landscapes. The graphics are leaps and bounds above the previous entries, and the story takes on a new twist on the old games, while starting a new story, so even if you haven't played them, you can still jump right in.It controls almost flawlessly, with aiming, moving, and using bullet time ( which if you are unfamiliar, is where you go into slow motion for a few seconds, giving you time to take out a lot of enemies at one time). But be aware, there is a horrible glitch, when you duck into cover, 3 out of 10 times you get stuck. You can't shoot or move, which is extremely annoying! If this happens, roll backwards away from the wall, that's the only way to get unstuck that I could find.

Max Payne is Good but not as good as John Marston!

Posted by: from NY on 01/11/2013I have been playing Rockstar games since the original Max Payne. This Game is good but not as good as Red Dead Redemption. I've played Red Dead Redemption since it came out and i'm still not bored with it. Max Payne vs John Marston??? John Marston makes Max Payne look like a joke!

Decent Game
3
Posted by: from Wash, DC on 12/24/2012(Before I get started let me say that I really enjoy the Metal Gear Solid series, the Uncharted series and Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2. I have probably played those games more than any others.) Max Payne is about an x-cop who takes a body guard job for some rich folks in San Pablo Brazil. The story was very good and made me want to keep playing the game. I will not go into the story in detail. The game itself is tuff. I played it through on easy and I may have made it through 2 scenes without Max getting killed. Most of the time he got killed multiple times in a scène. This was annoying to me to say the least. This game is not like Uncharted, where you have times when you need to figure out a puzzle. It’s cut scenes and shooting. Unlike Uncharted you don’t hide and wait to for your strength to return, you survive on pain killers you find and if you keep getting killed the game will slowly start to give you some. There are fourteen chapters to play through. Every now and then you have to perform so great acrobatic move while shooting multiple people in order to move on. That was cool. There are clues that you can find in each chapter. They really don’t help you do anything it just makes the game more interesting. Would I buy the game again knowing what I know now? Yes. Would I pay $60 for it? Probably not. If you are into cut scenes and outrageous gun fights without any real puzzle solving and starting a scene over and over a bunch of times this is for you. To me it was somewhat frustrating at times.
