Posted by: TurtleNeck from Tennessee on 12/29/2011I've had this router for at least three years now, and after this amount of time I feel I can give an accurate review. This router is very outdated, obviously, so it wouldn't be fair to compare it to newer routers. However, during the time that I have had my router, it has been a pain in the neck to deal with. On any given day it will drop the wireless signal up to 5 times. I have to go up and down stairs constantly to reset it. This is not a new problem. It has been an issue since it was first purchased. When it wants to, it works and works just fine. It's just that the constant drops outweigh the amount of time the router spends functioning properly. There's also the issue of the variation of connection speeds throughout the house. If you move your device (laptop, gaming console, etc.) even a few feet, your connection speed may change drastically. It's not very consistent in that aspect. The only good thing that I can say about the router is that I have had it for at least three years and it has not died on me yet. As I said before, it's not fair to judge the router on speeds due to the fact that it is an older router; but if you are in the market for a good router, do not buy this one. Find one that has 802.11n capabilities. That's the best you can get as of right now. Any router that only supports a signal less than 802.11n, i.e. 802.11a,802.11b, or 802.11g, is not worth your time. That, of course, includes this router, as well. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Great router

Posted by: anon222 from Texas on 09/07/2011I was leery about buying such a cheap router (I paid $30 for it), but now don't regret my decision at all. This is my third wireless router in 2 years. The first two constantly dropped wireless signals, and would require frequent restarts.
It appears that the "third time's a charm", as this unit has not had a single incident of lost connection.

Good Base Router

Posted by: DrewA from Phoenix, AZ on 07/13/2011Got this router for a small business network that also needed a "guest" access capability. Works perfect for the needed purpose.
I am always surprised by people saying that they need a more than 50MBPS in transfer rate, do they know that most basic networks can't transfer data that fast. Most homes and offices are wired with Cat5e, and even in PREFECT conditions you wont get that speed even though it is rated at 100MBPS. Take into account that you are now transferring wirelessly...not in a million years.
Save the money - go with a basic 'g' router - as the time of this writing, they were half the price! And, only about $18 for a refurb one!

BEWARE!!

Posted by: Fishworm from on 06/06/2011The router works GREAT until one month after warranty expires. Called Netgear and was told I could get it fixed by calling Gearhead, and that the first fix was free. NOPE. Gearhead wanted 40 bucks to fix it. That's more than the unit cost. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PRODUCT DO NOT BUY IT.

Cheap and easy but unreliable

Posted by: cjdiplomat from Burnsville MN on 05/25/2011A basic router that's easy to setup and will do what you need it to. Unfortunately devices fail to connect to it's wireless on a regular basis. Several times a week one or more of my computers, iPod, PS3 wont be able to connect and the only way to get it to is to unplug the router and sometimes restart the computer. So this router will get the job done, but it gets annoying to have to unplug it regularly. If you do buy keep it in an easily accessible location.
