It is pretty expensive, and since I don't use my AC that much, it doesn't really save me too much money, but I love technology so it works out. Best part is turning it on while you're on the way home so your house is at the right temperature when you get there.

Posted by: Mapcpa from DFW on 05/12/2013This is a great thermostat. It's easy to install yourself, it's fun to use, you tend to watch it more so you can set goals to earn more leafs which helps you save money. You are able to set your temperature from anywhere you have an internet connection.
I bought one to begin with, now I have replaced all three in my house.

Great Thermostat Once You Get Used To It

Posted by: JohnnyEgg from Columbus, Ohio on 05/06/2013I was very excited to get the Nest thermostat for our new home, and upon purchase, I hurried home to do the install. While the install was very easy, the instructions for doing the install were not as detailed as I would have liked. There is a part for example where you are plugging the wiring in from the wall to the thermostat, and it seems like it should click in (it doesn't), but all the instructions say are push the wire in. My only other issue was getting used to the thermostat's functions. Setup was very easy and walked you through step by step, but once that was done, there wasn't a lot of detail on what to do going forward. After playing with it for a couple of days though, it began to get familiar and since understanding how it does what it does, it's a breeze. In fact, after about two weeks of owning it, and adjusting the temp to our family's comfort level, I don't think we've touched it since. It has done all of the work in learning our scheduled preferences, and I love the energy usage detail. Even in Ohio where the temperature changes can fluctuate greatly, it doesn't seem to skip a beat. I would definitely recommend this thermostat, and my only advise to those looking to purchase is to sign up for the online account as that helped me understand a lot.

Great idea, but doesn't work with all systems

Posted by: AnonymouslyReviewed from New Jersey on 05/04/2013The Nest is a great idea in theory. It looks beautiful, it's easy to use and ultimately saves energy. However, I gave it 3 stars because it's not as compatible as the manufacturer claims. Even though they have the compatibility checker, it's misleading. If your system doesn't have the "C" common wire, then the Nest will "steal" power by constantly powering the system on and off. It's not good for the HVAC system. Also, check the compatibility of your wireless router too. On the Nest blog, you will find a list of routers that don't work as well. The irony is these routers are extremely common and some of the best in the market. Before purchasing, just make sure you check all your system to save some headaches. Other than that, it's pretty cool.

Great product, unique design

The same thing goes when I came home after a cool night at a baseball game the house was nice and toasty!!! I have been telling everyone about it. The only down side has been trying to reach the west coast branch with questions about corporate use at a new facility when it is built.

I love the fact that i can control my thermostat from anywhere and save money by using energy efficient temperatures. I would definitely recommend this product for someone trying to save money in energy cost
