Synopsis

Synopsis
One of the most iconic, popular and beloved video games of all time has made a triumphant return with Super Mario Bros. U. Join cherished characters Mario, Luigi and Toad on an epic adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom as a Mii representation of yourself. Discover new worlds, new power-ups and new ways to play for an experience that stays true to the classic while introducing exciting, innovative features.

Revisit the Mushroom Kingdom in all its side-scrolling glory in New Super Mario Bros. U. The revolutionary Wii U GamePad controller's capabilities make it possible for multiplayer action to be incorporated into this game in a way that few could have imagined. The brand-new Boost mode allows an extra player to jump into the action for cooperative speed runs, joint efforts to navigate tricky levels and help finding hard-to-reach or hidden items. Instantly receive comments and feedback from friends linked to the Nintendo Network to enhance the excitement of re-experiencing the world of Mario. The Wii U GamePad even allows you to switch seamlessly from playing on the TV to playing on the GamePad so that your thrill doesn't need to be interrupted by someone else's need for the TV. Welcome back to the addicting, bizarre and amazing Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Features

  • Dive back into the side-scrolling world of the Mushroom Kingdom with Mario, Luigi, Toad and your very own Mii character to explore new worlds, new power-ups and new ways to play Super Mario Bros.
  • Jump into the multiplayer fun with up to five players, as four control the players on screen with Wii Remote controllers and one uses the Wii U GamePad (Controllers and GamePad not included)
  • Use the Wii U GamePad to create Boost Blocks that allow players to navigate tricky areas, access hidden areas, uncover hard-to-reach items or distract enemies with the tap of a finger or stylus on the touch screen
  • Swoop through levels and cling to walls when Mario transforms into Flying Squirrel Mario, or gently float through the air while hanging onto Tiny Balloon Yoshi
  • Perform cooperative speed runs or help others navigate tricky spots with Boost mode that offers new and exciting ways to play multiplayer and the opportunity to navigate levels as a team
  • Embark on a quest to save Princess Peach in Story mode
  • Work with friends to clear many different courses in the fastest time possible, and watch the scene scroll by faster with the more coins you collect
  • Put your skills to the test in the Challenge mode that features a variety of single- and multiplayer challenges, which tie in familiar Super Mario gameplay concepts for a fun, nostalgic and competitive contest
  • Seamlessly switch from playing on your TV to playing on the GamePad when the TV becomes unavailable (console and controller not included)
  • Network with other Mario players in the Miiverse with comments and accomplishments posted on your screen while you play and leave your own feedback for others to see once they're linked to the Nintendo Network

New Super Mario Bros. U - Nintendo Wii U (31 out of 32)
So Surprisingly Great!!

Posted by: from missouri on 03/23/2013This is a huge surprise for the whole family. We weren't expecting much and boy, were we in for a treat! The gameplay is great....instead of cheapo minigames that are thrown together with past Nintendo characters, every single one of them is fun, complete and doesn't feel like a demo or commercial. We LOVE this game and are really pleased to have it.

Very fun

Posted by: from Henderson on 03/10/2013This game is fun, and is IMO the best Mario game in a while. This stays very true to the Mario series in general with nice HD graphics and audio. My only complaint I have is the length of the game, which can take you around 3-5 or maybe a few more hours depending on your skill level if you don't complete every level. It will take longer obviously if you master it by collecting all the coins and finding the extra levels. There is plenty of challenges besides the main story that will keep you entertained as well. Plus, you can play with 4 other people besides the GamePad. The GamePad player acts as a helper for the other players using Wii Remote Plus controllers. There will be DLC for this game later this year.

Posted by: from Columbus Indiana on 03/03/2013Love Mario, wish I could save more than 10 power ups at a time. That is the only disappointing part of the new Mario Wii U

Reason for buying Wii U

Posted by: from Quail Valley, CA on 02/08/2013Older gamers will like SMB Wii U for nostalgia, newer or younger gamers will like this game for its excellent platforming, and fun experience. SMB Wii U is my reason for owning the Wii U!

Another Mario Classic!

Posted by: from NorCal on 02/03/2013Take Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World and you get New Super Mario Bros. U. This is the best 2D Mario game that I have played since the Super NES.

Same old platformer

Posted by: from Florida on 01/29/2013When I inserted this game disc, I was expecting pretty much the same game I had in my Wii. And I wasn't wrong. Same game, different levels. Feels more like an expansion pack for the Wii game. Of course, my TV says this game in in High Definition, but this kind of graphics hardly show any difference. And don't get me wrong. It's a fun game, but it's more of the same. I hope Nintendo brings a new Mario game following the successful and Galaxy series.

Decent game but not as good as the classics.

Posted by: from Perrysburg, Oh on 01/29/2013Decent game that is fun for multiple people to play. The game pad controls in multi-player is a little weak because you can't use it to control any of the characters.

Fun game for everyone of all ages

Posted by: from Saint Paul, MN on 01/28/2013Super Mario Wii U is a great all around game that anyone in the family can play. As someone who grew up playing the SNES version, I can appreciate Nintendo's use of the old elements that made the game fun. My only complaint is that during team play, you need more than one wii nunchuck remote in order to play two characters, because the display controller is the de facto assistant instead of a character.
