Great album overall

Posted by: 7sCameron from Phoenix, AZ on 12/15/2010I am definitely what you would call a hardcore A7X fan. I have listened to them since the release of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet when I was 8 years old. My favorite album is Waking the Fallen by far.
Now for the review. I honestly think the closest sounding album to this they have done is Diamonds in the Rough. It reminds me of that album the most. There is elements of self-titled and City of Evil though. Honestly, I hate City of Evil. I think it is probably their worst album, but the album "Nightmare" definitely has a lot of similar qualities to it.
This is a great album if you love Avenged Sevenfold. If you like City of Evil or Self-titled then you should definitely pick this one up. The run time is over 60 minutes, so you get your money's worth.
I rate this an excellent when comparing it to all types of music out there, but for Avenged Sevenfold I would give it a 4/5. It's not as amazing as their Self-Titled album or Waking the Fallen to me, but it's definitely a great album.

A7Xs best yet!

Posted by: smoke77 from Auburn, IN on 09/19/2010Great album, esp. considering they lost their drummer after only one song they recorded with him for this album. Listen to more than just the hit "Nightmare", almost every song front to back rocks if you are an A7X fan.

Great CD

Posted by: BB18 from on 09/13/2010This CD is awesome. Nightmare is amazing and God Hates Us is awesome too. I've liked A7X since they released CIty Of Evil but i got kinda bored with them and this CD made me go out and buy Waking The Fallen (which is also a great album). If you are just getting into A7X this one or City Of Evil would b the album to purchase

Reviews are Overblown
3
Posted by: DaKak from Chicago, IL on 08/04/2010I should state for the record that I am a big Avenged Sevenfold fan, but these reviews give this album way too much credit.
It it certainly not their best album and in no way one of the greatest of all time as one review stated. In my opinion, the undeserved high praise in these reviews comes from dedicated fans that would buy and give great reviews to anything Avenged Sevenfold released.
Honestly, I feel this album is teetering between fair and average. The album is certainly weak and not what I've come to expect from Avenged Sevenfold. I understand wanting to write longer and more creative songs like 'Save Me' but the second half of the album is slow and outside of the scope of the band.
Certain bands can pull off slower rock songs and outside of 'Seize the Day' Avenged Sevenfold hasn't proven it can. At the last Avenged Sevenfold concert I attended, I don't remember anybody requesting to hear 'Gunslinger' or 'Dear God'. Why? Because they are a rock band and people want to hear the rock.
I would still recommend, barely. Now I'm going to listen to the newest Bullet for my Valentine to get my fix of metal.

Outstanding For Avenged, but not for New Comers...
4
Posted by: truthbetold101 from Seattle Washington on 08/04/2010If you've hears any rescent Avenged sevenfold, such as there self titles, or City of Evil. you may think you know what your getting yourself into. the answer to that assumption is you are and your not. what your Gonna hear is a Tribute to Rev, Avenged Sevenfolds past drummer. This Album Is quite frankly there most emotional album yet, taking you through the twists and turns as previous albums, but with more anger, more sorrow, and more Mike Portney.
Im not going to Spoil anything for Fans or Lovers of Avenged, but i will say that you wont be wasting your money at all, and you'll definatly hear 5 of there best songs ever on the latter half of the album, partly because of the roll Mike Portney Played as Lead drummer.
For those that didnt know, Mike is the lead Drummer of Progressive metal band Dream Theater. Avenged invited him to play in rev's place, and he immediatly accepted. Because of this, The 3 progressive Metal songs found on this album Were given some Great Assistance, making there Final song of there album there best crack at the Genre yet!
However, there is one downfall the Nightmare album... If your a new comer to avenged sevenfold, i cannot recomend this album for you until you've checked out previous albums. This album, unless heard after there previous albums, will throw you off and give you a distaste for there Outstanding music. If your New, Do yourself a Favor and check out there older music first.
