This is my first DSLR and I am extremely happy with it. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the models above it but it does everything I need it to. I am impressed with the quality of the build on this camera, it is very light but doesn't feel like it'll fall apart. The lens that comes with it is really good too, I have two other lens but the 18-55mm is the one I use the most often. The ease of use has been great, I haven't had any troubles figuring out how to use it. The direction booklet was very straight forward and easy to read. This is the perfect camera for someone just starting into photography who wants to upgrade to an SLR but doesn't want to spend a fortune.4 out of 4 found this review helpful.

I bought this camera for a trip to Europe. I had very little practice with it before leaving, but the camera was easy enough to figure out. I took over 1200 pictures, and was impressed by the photo quality.
The only disappointment was the shutter delay in low-light environments. While it took great photos of lighted landmarks, some museum environments were difficult to shoot.
If you're traveling, this camera can be bulky. However, the consistent quality and speed of photos (in normal lighting) make it much better than a point & shoot.14 out of 16 found this review helpful.

I needed a camera to take pics of wildlife and my dogs, neither of which like to sit still. My old camera was a canon powershot G3 which took beautiful pics but was very slow so I bought this camera to try and get the same quality with faster shooting capabilities. It has met my expectations and has made catching good pics of my dogs much easier.17 out of 17 found this review helpful.

This is an easy to operate camera for people moving from the "point-n-shoot" cameras, to a real camera. The paper manual is a starter guide only, the actual manual is on a computer disc. The response when you press the button to take a picture, wow , I took three pictures before my old camera would even take one. New to digital SLR, get this camera and jump right in, great fun. The battery life is great, and the charger will recharge the battery in 30-60 minutes.19 out of 19 found this review helpful.

This model has serious technical deficiencies1

For three months I was really impressed with the camera, despite that I only learned after the deal was done that it did not have a video capability. I was disappointed with this.
Then suddenly the camera failed to respond in low light conditions -even the flash would not pop up, or fire even if it was popped.
Then the flash would pop up in daylight condition and flash.
I returned it to the importer head office and the salesmen tried to convince me that all Nikons do that, upon which I challenged them to bring out three different models. None had the problem. Eventually I spoke to the NIkon sales manager and he said it needed a firmware upgrade. An hour later I received the camera and it was perfect. FOR TWO MONTHS - and the same problem returned. I returned the camera to the dealer and Nikon swopped it out for a brand new body.
All was perfect. FOR FOUR MONTHS - and the same problem recurred.
I returned it to the dealer and asked for my money back, and also said to them that maybe the D3000 was replaced by the D3100 because of the latent defects in the firmware logic.
The dealer asked if I would accept a replacement D3100 at no extra cost and I agreed - we are still waiting for Nikon to respond.
I shall take the D3100 but at the first little indication of malfunction I shall return it and ask for my money back and go Canon.6 out of 28 found this review helpful.

Traded up from my old Nikon D50 and all I can say is WOW! I usually don't like to use the automatic exposure feature, especially when I'm trying to get creative, but the automatic settings are pretty decent for most situations. Optics are amazingly sharp and the image sensor captures with unbelievable results.
Autofocus does not work with my D50 lenses, bummer.14 out of 14 found this review helpful.

The only thing this is missing is Live View. Like my old, reliable Canon A1 you need to look through the eye piece. Not so much an issue, cause I do that anyhow. I did notice that this camera with the telephoto zoom does have more shake then my film camera. Guess I'm bring the monopod more places. :)3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

Works very well, I got a bigger lens for it as well to get those shot out of rich of the lens you start with, but that lens does well inside and out but not for long distances.3 out of 4 found this review helpful.

This camera gives the user lots of options. If you're an experienced photographer you have all the manual settings and ability to change lenses. As a beginner, I have the choice to stay in the Auto mode or try the manuel settings for different effects. Had it for 2 months now and still love it.

I love this camera. No it doesn't have video but I don't mind, I think a video camera is where you can get your highest quality for video not a DSLR. Very easy to use. You can get more out of it as long as you have your telephoto lens which is much needed. Omg the ADH Protection Plan is awesome!!6 out of 6 found this review helpful.

The pictures that come out make me feel like a photographer because they turn out so great. The pictures weren't really good on the first try though. At first they came out blurry and the color was dull but that was just because I didn't know how to use the camera yet. I played with it for a while and am now getting the hang of knowing what setting to use to get the kind of image I want. Although I feel like a professional, I am not. This is my first DLSR and don't know anything about cameras; except the fact that the more millions of megapixels, the more detailed the image is. The absence of a live view mode didn't really matter to me. Good camera for the price.16 out of 16 found this review helpful.

This camera has so many features that I haven't had time to try them all out yet. The battery lasts for 1400+ pictures at the highest quality setting. The remote feature is great for portraits, group shots, night shots, etc. The manual focus does not seem to work as great as the automatic...it doesn't seem as fine focus as when you let the camera do it itself, but maybe that's a problem with the operator? :-) You can set the camera in so many different ways depending on what you're taking a shot of. You chose what the priority is: aperture, speed, etc. & the camera does the work for you. I have no complaints so far!9 out of 13 found this review helpful.

The Nikon D3000 does exactly what it says. It has great picture quality and is very easy to use. Shoots very well in low light conditions with the built in flash. Perfect for those who have small hands like me. All in all it is another great Nikon product.11 out of 12 found this review helpful.
