Brilliant addition to my arsenal!5

When you first pick this camera up and cradle it in your hands, you feel just how solid it is. My pictures are crisp and the fps rate is more than adequate. The info button is such an awesome feature especially where using the built-in light meter is concerned. I have yet to use it's 720p video capability because to be honest, I'd rather use a dedicated camcorder instead. All in all, I'm very pleased with this equipment and look forward to many successful shoots.3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

I love this camera!! No regrets whatsoever......highly recommended. I specially love the quality of the pictures! I will be using this primarily for my photography business and I am truly satisfied with it.
I also love the easy access to some of the most used features (mode, shutter and aperture. I went from a Nikon D40 to a D300s!! What an upgrade! I continue to learn/discover something new about the features on this camera....Very happy with it!!5 out of 5 found this review helpful.

A beautiful camera that does everything I needed. I originally upgraded because I was unhappy with the metering on the d80. The reds still are bit punchy, but I love it overall.3 out of 9 found this review helpful.

awesome camera. upgraded from nikon d3100. very easy to use. just a little bit heftier than the entry level d3100. i currently have a nikon 35mm f/1.8 and a tokina ultra wide angle 11-16mm f/2.8 on this bad boy. definitely worth the buy!8 out of 8 found this review helpful.

I just made the switch from Canon Rebel to the Nikon, and I am happy I did. I love the ease of use of the Nikon, seems more user-friendly. The picture quality is amazing. And the HD video is easy to use and perfect! This camera has become an extension of my arm! I've uploaded a picture taken with the camera. Fabulous!16 out of 23 found this review helpful.

King for APS size Nikon DSLR5

Looking through the cameras which are APS size sensor, D300s is one of the best. As its 12M pix and 51 points focusing points, and 7 fps shooting (8fps with grip), I can say D300s is very powerful. Moreover, D300s has the complete aluminum body inside, heavy and stable, especially with the big lens. Which I mean, for semi-pro guys like me, the heavy cameras are good for me. For ladies, I recommend Nikon D7000, it's lighter and similar to D300s, but with Half-plastic body.
But I got a little cons for it, high ISO noise control, above 800 ISO, you can clearly distinguish the noise points on your shooting. Anti-dust system is effective but a little bit noisy.
In general, this camera is perfect!14 out of 18 found this review helpful.

D300s - couldn't be happier5

My personal bias for Nikon glass notwithstanding, this is a great camera for many reasons. Build, handling, metering, speed, the list goes on. I was looking for a step up from the D70/D80/D90 range but wanted to stay in the DX family. Bang for the buck, especially since I caught this on sale, the D300s fills the bill nicely. When the D800 or whatever the replacement for the D700 will be called is released later this year I'll give it a serious look but the D300s is and will be a keeper. Some may say "What about the D7000?"; it's a fair question. For my tastes, I wanted a high-end camera but didn't want lots of extra features I'd use once or twice and forget, just the basics done extremely well and that's what the D300s offers.19 out of 19 found this review helpful.

An excellent camera for advanced amatuer or pro5

I got this for my husband for Christmas and I think he cried when he opened it. According to him, this camera is fabulous. His words:
The D300s is really quite wonderful. I moved up to Digital from an N80 and an old FE, shooting lots of Kodachrome and 160VC. The camera offers a pile of features that enable advanced use, and it's image quality is sufficient to make me feel pretty good about abandoning film. I'm still learning a lot about it after a month, there's enough customizability, a broad enough feature set, and enough flexibility to allow incredible images to be captured in some pretty crazy situations. The only real downside is that my old DB-50dx flash won't play nice with my new camera in anything but full manual mode, but really, that's a tiny quibble about a cheap flash that won't work with my shiny new semi-pro digicam in full auto mode.4 out of 6 found this review helpful.

High quality DSLR at a 'reasonable' price5

Bought this camera to take my photography to a higher level. It offers the right combination of features and quality to meet that objective. Specifically, it has high resolution, high FPS, fast shutter speeds, various image types (I use RAW), good range of ISO settings, on-camera controls, and an easy to read/use mini-screen on top of the camera. I just returned from Paris and am very happy with the photographs, noting some were taken outside and some were taken in very low light.6 out of 6 found this review helpful.

It was a major upgrade (for me) from the D70. This camera with 18-200VRII lens along with Photoshop creates ulimited creativity. I was going to get the D90 but the D300s is leaps and bounds better.6 out of 6 found this review helpful.

Have used this camera for one year & can't begin to state all the fabulous results, its large 3" LCD for starters/ease of use/great for low light & action pics/have used it for weddings/landscape/seascape/air shows/animals/children/museums/ while moving in cars.
Each time pictures have been perfect or near perfect. Even the video is very good, though if it had the 1080 HD video it would have been the best camera for everyone from Pros to beginners, because it can do it all & do it as well as the FX models with the execption of extreme shooting situations which you would then have to use the FX cameras.5 out of 5 found this review helpful.

My personal review of this Nikon D300S is that it’s SUPERSWEET because it is very powerful and with the 920,000 dot lcd you can get the picture right before leaving the subject and getting home or to your computer and finding out that there was a tiny piece of a twig or so other foreign piece intruding in your picture that you may miss with lower lcds, the feel of the camera is a little weighty which I like and with a pro lens it does seem to feel like it will break from the waight, the rubber texture grips on both left and right side of the D300s feel secure in your hands, the button layout is use friendly with being fast and accurate.
One of the state of the are cameras that demands its own place in the photography world with 720HD video, up to 7 shots and 12.1 megapixels which comes in lower than some of the Canon DSLR’s shoot in full HD (1080p) and have 18.1 megapixels but some professionals say that 18.1 megapixels is over kill and unless you taking pictures for a billboard all you really need is 10 to 12 megapixels. Over all it comes down to what you prefer Canon or Nikon, Canon has a lot of different lenses and so does Nikon but if you going to move up to a different camera body in the future Nikon may be the better choice for you because Canon and Nikon have a lot of the same lenses but Canon has a track record of changing the bodes so much that the old lenses don’t work or you have to buy a lens converter or all new lenses6 out of 7 found this review helpful.

This a awesome camera by Nikon what it can do is beyond belief. It is heavy whether you add the Battery Grip or not but if you do add the grip it helps to balance the camera. I got the D300S to replace my D80 which my daughter now uses. Since I travel a lot I take plenty of pictures from all the places we go to using a 16-85 VR and 70-300 VR Nikon Lenses. I am not disappointed one bit with the camera.3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

Great camera for advanced amateurs and pros.5

Having decided to get back into pro photography after almost twenty years I decided to go with the D300S as the first digital camera in my arsenal. I have not been disappointed. the pictures are great and the thing I like most is that I can use my Nikon AF Lenses which I purchased in 1992 and they are as sharp as ever and almost all the features work with them. I have concentrated on product and scenic photography and like the results so far. The combination of controls and possible settings can appear to be overwhelming at first but my advice is to take a couple hours each day for a week or so and experiment with them so they become easy. I bought the package with the 18-200mm lens which is a good lens but not as sharp as I need. I also added the MB-D10 which gives the camera a better feel and can triple battery power. I am usually a whiz when it comes to learning software but have found the Nikon Capture NX2 somewhat cumbersome to learn - it must be really good? I can't wait to get my hands on the D3s in the near future.4 out of 5 found this review helpful.

The camera's ability exceeds mine. It's a solid piece of equipment. I've been lugging it all over Vietnam and taken roughly 5000 shots without flaw. Happy I chose it over the 90 for it's weather protection.3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

As a photographer I find the Nikon D300S an excellent camera. I take a large amount of wildlife pictures and pictures of my grandkids, I find the 7 pictures a second fantastic. The only complaint (mild problem) I have had is having to re-learn how to use the features on the camera. Some of the functions are not as straight forward as my other Nikon camera. However, the camera as a whole out weighs the slight re-learning curve requirment. As a volunteere at a wildlife rehab center I get to handle birds and get GREAT pictures.8 out of 8 found this review helpful.
