Posted by: from Cheektowaga, NY on 03/24/2011I bought this camera, not really knowing all it had to offer. There are so many neat things you can do with it, and i'm still learning more!! It really is a great camera for those who want to upgrade from their one click one button digital cameras! I am very happy with my purchase!!

Posted by: from Miami, FL on 02/20/2011This Nikon was to replace and upgrade a Kodak, and I just wanted a better zoom and a few more bells and whistles. After reading reviews and many trips to BestBuy, made my purchase .I bought this camera in late October, and right out of the box knew I had made a mistake. The pictures were not as crisp and clear as the Kodak, but I figured it would take time to learn all the settings. I studied the manual (which is great and covers a lot of material), but all my pics were still not as good as my Kodak. The end of January I was shooting pics and the camera froze, wouldn't turn off or even take a charge. I returned it to Best Buy and they sent it to Nikon for repair. I just picked it up yesterday, went to a wedding last night and after 10 pics, the camera again froze and won't take a charge. I've always heard great things about Nikon, but now I'm on my way back to Best Buy, where hopefully I can exchange it for the Kodak Z981. Much better camera at a better price.

Good for beginning, not for professional.

Posted by: from Oregon, OH on 02/15/2011I bought this camera over last summer and was pleased at first at the thought of having a professional camera..but i soon realized that the picture quality isn't that great. The "fast shoot" or the shoot mode that lets you snap moving objects turns out blurry, and most of the modes for picture taking on the camera all turn out blurry or grainy. It's okay for someone to start out with if they've never used a professional camera before but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Also, shutter speed is slow.

    likely to return

Posted by: from Taunton, MA on 02/09/2011I purchased as "previously opened" and now I see why it was returned. The monitor is showing spots on it, which are tiny, but increasing in number, so the screen is likely to blow out before it should. It's a neat camera, but better to go with an SLR for that kind of money. Love the zoom capabilities...and the "smile" setting is a favorite of those who allow me to take their picture. The manual flash is not at all convenient if you are on the move though. It should automatically pop up in low light settings.

Great camera for all types of users

Posted by: from New York on 02/07/2011I bought the Coolpix P100 in December 2010 because my Kodak point & shoot only took clear pictures outside on sunny days and my family and I were tired of taking 10pics just to get one shot with everyone's eyes open. I recently started scrapbooking and wanted a camera to help capture family events, movement shots and low-light festivities. The Coolpix really does allow you to take great pics in every setting. Its nice to have so many settings options. The zoom is wonderful. I'm still learning how to use all of the features, but so far I have really enjoyed having this camera and have recommended it to several of my friends who are in the market for a new camera. There is an instruction book included with the camera, but I wish that there was a CD to show you how to use the camera. Thanks Nikon for a great product!

Didn't live up to my expectations

Posted by: from Duncan, SC on 02/06/2011I've only had this camera for a few days but I'm seriously thinking about returning it. I should have took some of the bad reviews into consideration but I'm just one of those people who have to see for their self . The picture quality isn't that great and even less when you're in full zoom. You have to be completely still while taking a photo or it will come out blurry which sucks when you have kids and want to snap a quick shot. Also, you have to wait a few seconds for the flash to warm back up but it does take good photos without flash. It has already froze up on me once for no reason at all. I had to remove the battery just to get it to turn off. I'm going to research some more cameras and probably take this one back. It's not worth the price. I've attached two photos. One is taken only about 5 feet away and as you can tell it's not that great and another is in full zoom and also isn't that great. Go for the higher megapixel!

    Great Camera

Posted by: from Murfreesboro TN on 02/05/2011I got this as a novice instead of jumping into an SLR and could not have been happier. it will do some of the same stuff as an SLR but is still a point and shoot. The big allure was the HD vidoe it will shoot. it has a dedicated button to immediatley start shooting HD video no matter what state the camera is in (the camera must be turned on first). it powers up super fast and is ready to go. it has an unbelievable zoom. i zoomed in on the moon the other night and could not belive the detail i could see. you could see actual craters on the moons surface. it does very well in low light situations, just be steady or grab a tripod. this camera has too many funtions to mention. This camera is a great tool for someone who wants to learn to take photos at the next level. im a beginner (hobby - dad) photographer and I am 110% satisfied with my purchase. ive had it for a month and still play with it daily.

Posted by: from Faith NC on 02/04/2011This camera has a nice variety of features. It is a good camera for someone who wants some advanced technology without all the bells and whistles of a really expensive camera.
