Great camera for parents5

This camera takes better pictures than any quick and easy camera I have seen. I take a lot of pictuers of my kids at school performances where the lighting is difficult for most cameras. My pictures with this camera turn out great. My old camera couldn't take a good picture in the same situation. Other parents were complaining recently about their pictures, and they were jealous when I showed them the pictures from this camera. I highly recommend it.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Great camera to carry with you5

I previously had a Canon Powershot SD400 ELPH and loved it for its versatility, and picture quality, although I often wished it had greater optical zoom. After I got a few grains of sand in the lens mechanism and broke it, my research found that the Nikon Coolpix S8100 had excellent reviews and 10X optical zoom was a good compromise to larger cameras with great zoom capabilities but are cumbersome to carry around with you. ( I can put the SD400 in a camera case and carry it on my belt anywhere I go.... skiing, hiking, etc.) Also the newer Canon ELPH's with similiar zoom were very pricey. The only downside I have seen is that the flash is poorly designed and it's hard to remember to keep your finger out of the way when the flash is needed.... although , it is not a major concern.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Amazing Point and Shoot5

Decided to get away from the Canon Point and Shoots and was pleasantly surprised at the features of the Nikon. Although it lacks the ability for manual control, the fixed features built into the camera is more than smart enough to compensate for the novice user. Takes very good low light photos with the backlit CCD which compensates for the slightly slower f-stop on this camera vs the Canon.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

I got this camera on cyber Monday and the reviews were excellent during my research. I always had trouble with dim light or indoor photos, and the S8200 addressed that. It takes multiple shots and chooses the best of them to retain. I'm so impressed for P+S, that this takes great photos, even matching to my Nikon SLR, and more compact.
The annoying flash pop up that everyone talks about is truly annoying spot, when you give anyone the camera to take shots, pops up where most index fingers are holding cameras. Although people comment that "real" photographers know to hold the camera without index fingers on the top, come on, let's get real, EVERYONE I pass the camera to take a photo of me and a group, has their finger above that flash. Nikon should fix that placement. The camera is also very large for compact, so it took forever to find a good camera bag for it, Best Buy's free one was way too large. I got the Lowepro Sausalito, but that is even too snug. Battery life is low. Overall, the quality is great, my most popular one of 8 P+S that I own.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

I got this camera in October 2011 as a Christmas gift for my 12 yr old daughter.
She enjoys it for the zoom!
BUT you can not control whether or not to use the flash.
The camera decides this on its own.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

The flash is in a real bad spot and pops up with a mild touch. Inside shots were noisy on most shots. Nice menu. Just doesn't measure up. My older L18 runs circles around it. Product was returned. I don't like doing that either.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

I am impressed with this camera. It takes nice 1080p video. Nice crisp photos too. Has issues in low light, but when you use the right settings it works out ok. The auto setting is not the greatest. I would recommend this to anyone.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

This is my third Nikon CoolPix camera and they just keep getting better. The picture quality and ease of use is the best in it's class. When I found this S8100 with the 10x Zoom I was elated. It makes my photos effortless. Thank You0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Hated the pop up flash2

I purchased this as a Black Friday special...paying about $150 thinking this would be a notch above the typical point & shoots I've been used to over the years. I read the mixed reviews prior & saw many hated the location of the flash & I said to myself well it shouldn't be too bad. Well after explaining to all who take my photo & catching myself by surprise at times of that darn flash pop up locatiobn....I got fed up & traded it in for a Canon Elph 310 series before my 30 days was up. Very impressed w/ it & much smaller. The Nikon s8100 was bulky for me, but I wasn't used to a camera that size. I also didn't like the functionality of it. The date stamp on it appeared too faint...visible still, but not what I was used to & have now on my Canon Elph 310. I also got a lens error a few times & after reading that in my reviews prior to purchasing I wa slike I gotta take this back before the lens gets stuck!!! It seems that there are better cameras out there for the class the s8100 falls into.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

I already have Canon but this time I thought of buying Nikon. I am specially interested for low light pic..this camera is very good compare to its price. But in Auto mode it doesn't take proper pic in low light mode...Over all I am happy with the camera and recommend to friends..0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Poor flash placement2

This camera takes nice pictures, most adjustments are easy to use and find. However, the flash is positioned too close to the left edge of the camera. It is directly under your left finger when you steady the camera for a shot- The flash automatically pops up when a flash is needed and time after time, my finger stops it from working. I have lost lots of good shots0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Just getting started with this Nikon and so far I'm impressed with the speed and features of the 8100. Startup time and shot to shot times are reletively low (good) for this price range. View screen is super-sharp, 10x zoom and HD video, build quality and image stab. hard to beat at $149.
Also, on my first battery charge I'm at 350+ shots and it's still going strong!
Only negative is the pop-up flash placement. I'll need to retrain my grip placement. Not a deal breaker though.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.
