    Stunning results

Posted by: from Michigan on 05/19/2013For years I've been wanting to get into photography, and finally picked up the Nikon D5100 w/ lens kit. Definitely takes some time to get used, only if it's your first exposure to DSLR. The features built in to the camera are unbelievable. From partial coloring, to miniature effect (tilt shift), to partial coloring, full 1080 video capabilities, night vision (haven't tried this one yet), this camera does NOT disappoint. Again, I'm just getting into photography, and the people I've shared some of my pictures with are blown away, some of which have been in photography for years and years. Can't recommend this camera enough, and always have a blast using it.

    Great beginner camera
    5
Posted by: from Roger, AR on 05/18/2013This is my first DSLR camera and i love it! It is easy to use for beginners, but also can lead you into pro photography. I had looked at the Nikon D3100 (which is very popular for a starter camera) but i wanted more quality. So then i went to the Nikon D7100, it looked great, but was a little out of my price range... I decided to go for in-between price and quality. Which is when i found the Nikon D5100. It is amazing, and in my opinion the BEST starter camera for someone going into professional photography. I will say though, you will probably want another lens other than the one that comes with this camera. The lens that comes with it is great for indoors or portraits. But you have no way of getting that far away shot. (especially if you are taking photos of sports) So in addition to the camera and lens that came with it, I bought the Nikon/Nikkor 55mm-200mm lens. This lens allows me to still get a photo, even if I'm quite a distance away from the subject. And as for the camera type itself, I have tried Cannon cameras and enjoyed them, but i like Nikon better. I think its really just personal preference though... Kind of like Mac or Windows, they both have perks so it just depends on what the user likes best. Or how they use it. Overall I love this camera, and BestBuy did a wonderful job of shipping it to me.

    Very Good Mid-Level Camera
    4
Posted by: from Pittsburgh Pa on 05/14/2013Stepped up from the P5OO point and shoot camera to the 5100 and jumped over the 3100 model for a little more money. This was a smart move and am very happy, My first DSL and also picked up the 300mm lens. I also jumped over the 200mm lens. Love the camera, Lots to learn, Lots to read, Lots to watch online. I used the camera in auto mode the first several times I took it out to shoot, Now I am using it in manual and all different shooting modes. Very little difference between the 5100 and 5200 other then the price. Would have loved to be the owner of a 5200, but for 300.00 more . . . . NO.

Posted by: from CT on 05/12/2013This is our first DSLR and I have to say, pulling it out of the box it takes amazing pics in auto mode. If you can send an Email, you can take great shots. If you ever want to get out of AUTO mode it will take some time and patience learning how to speak "Photographer". Great HD video too. I would absolutely recommend this camera for anyone wanting great pictures that won't mind the time it takes to learn how to "Go Manual Mode" Save some room in the budget for accessories (Bag, Lenses, Lens filters, memory card... etc) Enjoy!!!
