Anyway I do love it and would not go with any other carrier.

Good choice for Verizon 4G LTE territory
4
Posted by: from Winchester, Va on 08/07/2012This hotspot has received many negative reviews, but they may not be entirely fair to the device itself. Getting the 4510L into service was frustrating because it took several phone calls and about two hours on the phone to find the right people to properly provision their computers with the information about my device and me. In 2012, I kinda expected a tech-smart company like Verizon Wireless would have a smooth sign-up and setup process. Didn't work out that way. Maybe next year. Tip 1: If you are using a prepaid 'Jetpack' device, immediately tell any Verizon Wireless tech support rep you contact that you are prepaid. Apparently, there are separate staffs for the big spenders and us pay-as-you-go cheapskates. Next, be realistic. Do not expect this hotspot to deliver speeds the network does not have. Reports from around the country suggest that 3G service mostly stinks, ranging from poor to terrible. If that is the case in your location, no device is going to fix the network problems or live up to its potential. Tip 2: The most important buying advice I can offer is not to shop for a device until you have determined which carrier offers good 4G service where you will use the device. If you are located in an area with WiMax, that may be a good option until LTE arrives. If 4G LTE is available where you want to use the 4510L, you likely will be delighted with this hotspot. It is fast and convenient. Near a cell tower, look for download speeds of about 20 Mbps. In a basement, farther from a tower, etc., speed may be about 10 Mbps. In other words, you'll be hard pressed to see any difference between the hotspot and a wired connection to a cable modem. The nominal battery life of 3 hours seems about right if the device is in active use. If the hotspot is dormant for long periods, you will see longer "on" time. Also, notwithstanding some outdated literature, you can tether the hotspot to a laptop or PC for extended runtime. With a cellular radio, wifi radio, and router inside the box, it follows that there are a sizeable number of configuration options. Fortunately, the default configuration will be fine for most users. Once set up, there's nothing to do except keep the battery charged and keep bytes in your data plan. I'm giving the 4510L four stars, rather than five, because it should not have been so difficult to get up and running. Also, the current Verizon Wireless price plans are too costly. Finally, it annoys me that when you use up your byte quota, service stops cold. To its credit, Verizon Wireless does send warning e-mails, but you may not be reading mail when the bytes run low.

Fine product

Posted by: from Orlando, FL on 07/11/2012It's July 11, 2012 and I have had this product almost 3 months. I had been obtaining mobile Internet service for my laptop by tethering through another carrier's smartphone. Their connection was very slow in my area. I bought the Verizon MiFi Jetpack and now get consistent, excellent Internet speed and good coverage. The quality of your experience with this product will probably depend on the Verizon 4G coverage in your area, but in my area it is great, and at least 20 times faster than with my former mobile Internet provider. Verizon customer service has been at least good enough to allow me to solve the minor issues I have had with this device. Overall, it's the best solution for Internet access for my laptop in the area I am using it that I am aware of.

Terrible Product - Released Too Soon
1
Posted by: from Southern Pines, NC on 07/05/2012I am extremely computer literate both in hardware and software. This product does allow several computers to connect to the internet. If the Verizon signal is not strong, the speed is VERY slow. This is not the fault of the product but of the service provider Verizon. The big complaint is that the product was released TOO soon and there is no administrative procedure. In other words, you can not determine the usage until you get an email from Verizon saying you have used 50%, 75%, or 100$. Also, configuring the product for the first time is a nightmare. I could not do it myself as Verizon expects a telephone not a hot spot. After 1.5 hours on the telephone (honestly!), the customer service person got it working for me. In conclusion, the product does do what it is supposed to do but it was not ready to be released. Verizon is well aware of the issues but that does not solve the problem. I would wait at least until 2013 before buying this. Today is July 5, 2012 and I have had the product for about one month.
